Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 : * A ROYAL REQUEST*

Aria and Ryker walked in silence, the tension between them palpable. They knew that they had to talk about the prince's proposal, but they didn't know where to start.

As they reached the gardens, Aria turned to Ryker, her eyes searching. "What do you think?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.

Ryker's face was set in a determined expression. "I think you're already making up your mind," he said. "You're considering the prince's proposal, aren't you?"

Aria hesitated, unsure of how to respond. She knew that Ryker was right, but she also knew that she had to think about the kingdom's future.

"I am considering it," she admitted. "But it's not just about me, or us. It's about the kingdom, and what's best for our people."

Ryker's eyes narrowed. "You're not seriously thinking of marrying him, are you?" he asked, his voice low and even.

Aria sighed, feeling torn. "I don't know, Ryker. I really don't know. But I have to think about what's best for the kingdom."

Ryker's face softened, and he reached out to take her hand. "I understand," he said. "But I have to tell you, Aria, I'm not ready to give up on us yet. I love you, and I know that we can face whatever comes next, as long as we're together."

Aria's heart swelled with emotion as she looked at Ryker. She knew that she loved him too, but she also knew that she had a duty to her kingdom.

"I love you too, Ryker," she said. "But I need some time to think. Can you give me that?"

Ryker nodded, his eyes never leaving hers. "I'll give you all the time you need," he said. "But know that I'll be here, waiting for you, no matter what you decide."

Aria smiled, feeling a sense of gratitude towards him. She knew that she was lucky to have Ryker in her life, and she wasn't sure if she was ready to give him up.

As they stood there, holding hands and looking into each other's eyes, Aria knew that she had a difficult decision to make. Would she choose Ryker, or would she consider the prince's proposal? The fate of the kingdom, and her own happiness, hung in the balance.

Aria spent the rest of the day in contemplation, weighing her options and considering the potential consequences of her decision. She knew that marrying the prince would secure a lasting peace between their kingdoms, but it would also mean giving up her relationship with Ryker.

As the sun began to set, Aria decided to seek out the wisdom of Sophia, her trusted advisor. She found Sophia in the castle's library, surrounded by ancient tomes and scrolls.

"Sophia, I need your counsel," Aria said, her voice filled with uncertainty.

Sophia looked up from the book she was reading and smiled. "I'm here for you, Your Majesty," she said. "What's troubling you?"

Aria took a deep breath and explained the situation, telling Sophia about the prince's proposal and her feelings for Ryker. Sophia listened attentively, her expression thoughtful.

"When I was a young queen, I faced a similar dilemma," Sophia said. "I had to choose between two men who loved me, and I chose the one who was not good for me. It took me many years to realize my mistake."

Aria's eyes widened in surprise. "What happened?" she asked.

Sophia's eyes clouded over, and she looked away. "I married a man who seemed perfect at first, but he turned out to be cruel and manipulative. I was trapped in a loveless marriage, and it took me a long time to escape."

Aria's heart went out to Sophia. She had never known about her advisor's past, and she was touched by her vulnerability.

"I'm so sorry, Sophia," Aria said. "But what advice can you give me?"

Sophia's eyes locked onto hers. "Follow your heart, Aria," she said. "Don't make the same mistake I did. Choose the man who truly loves you, who supports you and makes you happy."

Aria felt a surge of emotion as she looked at Sophia. She knew that she had made up her mind. She would choose Ryker, no matter the cost.

"Thank you, Sophia," Aria said, her voice filled with gratitude. "You've given me the courage to follow my heart."

With a newfound sense of determination, Aria went to find Ryker. She found him in the stables, grooming his horse.

"Ryker," she said, her voice trembling with emotion.

Ryker looked up, his eyes locking onto hers. "Aria, what's wrong?" he asked, concern etched on his face.

Aria took a deep breath and walked towards him. "I've made my decision," she said. "I'm choosing you, Ryker. I love you, and I want to be with you."

Ryker's face lit up with joy, and he swept Aria into his arms. "I love you too, Aria," he said, his voice filled with emotion. "I'll never let you go."

As they hugged, Aria knew that she had made the right decision. She had chosen love, and she would fight for it, no matter what.

As the days passed, Aria and Ryker's relationship became stronger than ever. They spent every spare moment together, exploring the kingdom and getting to know each other's quirks and habits.

But despite their happiness, Aria knew that she couldn't avoid the prince's proposal forever. She needed to let him know that she had made her decision, and that she would not be accepting his proposal.

With Ryker by her side, Aria requested a meeting with the prince. They met in the same room where the proposal had been made, and Aria could sense the prince's expectation.

"Your Highness," Aria began, her voice firm but respectful. "I appreciate the offer you made to me. However, I regret to inform you that I will not be accepting your proposal."

The prince's face fell, and he looked at Ryker with a mixture of surprise and anger. "Is this because of him?" he asked, his voice cold.

Aria stood tall, her eyes locked on the prince. "My decision has nothing to do with Ryker," she said. "It is simply because I do not feel that marriage between us would be in the best interest of our kingdoms."

The prince's face darkened, and for a moment, Aria wondered if she had made a mistake. But then, he nodded, a small smile on his face.

"I understand," he said. "I respect your decision, and I hope that our kingdoms can still maintain a good relationship."

Aria breathed a sigh of relief, grateful that the meeting had gone better than she expected. She knew that she had made the right decision, and she was excited to see what the future held for her and Ryker.

As they left the meeting room, Ryker took her hand, a smile on his face. "I'm proud of you," he said. "You handled that like a true queen."

Aria smiled, feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment. She knew that she had made a difficult decision, but she was confident that it was the right one.

Together, they walked out of the castle, ready to face whatever challenges lay ahead. They knew that their love would see them through, and that they would rule the kingdom with wisdom and courage.

The future looked bright, and Aria couldn't wait to see what it held for her and Ryker.
