Chapter 15 - Eye of the Storm

After unavoidably succumbing to the storm that once in the far distance out in the open sea, Team Earth and Captain Treon prepped for battle.

"You lot better be gettin inside the cabin!"

The storm that has anchored itself over Captain Treon's ship is split into three parts.

The first section is harsh winds and waves.

The second is wind, waves, and lightning strikes.

The third is the eye of the storm, a clear section devoid of harsh winds, crashing waves, and loud thunderous noises, this is where Aziel is located, deep under water.

There was nothing that Team Earth could do for the first two sections other than hope their captain can make it through the rough waters.

The reason for this was due to the winds and water that were rapidly increasing in velocity and power with every wave the ship passed over.

Captain Treon was fine since he was part lionfish and was used to the harsh environment. His body is physically conditioned for this weather, and his mind was solely focused on slaying this beast.

The same could not be said for Coco, Fenrir, Zena, or Alex. All of whom were children who for one reason or another were kept from these kinds of environments.

Not a single member of the crew, other than the captain, grew up around water. Zena, being the one who lived close to the ocean, was also denied such training.

This made them feel useless, but they were forced to follow the captain's orders and enter his cabin.

Looking around they notice that the place is rather nice for the regular looking pirate ship. One bed on the left side of the room, rather large in size, able to fit something the size of a lion. On the right side are some book cases with various novels ranging from sea creature textbooks to navigation guides. In the center of the cabin is a table, presumably for crew meetings and paper work. In the back of the cabin is a large wooden desk, the captain's personal office.

The team walked to the center table, fished their quick scan of the place, then began planning.

"This place is well put together for such a rough and tough kinda guy, right?" Alex asked not thinking the captain would be this organized.

"Yeah, he seems to keep things in order, but also seems obsessed with this, Aziel, thing." Fenrir gestured to the sketches and small notes written on a board in the wall beside the bed.

"From these depictions, the beast seems to be a whale. We are dealing with a magical whale." Coco said thinking aloud, but figuring a piece of the puzzle is missing.

"How do we fight a whale under water?" Zena asked, cutting straight to the point.

"The goal isn't to fight or even to beat the thing, it's to survive." Coco said to clarify the ruling of the event.

"Riiiight, with that whale obsessed freak who wants to defeat the thing, I doubt we can go with just dodging it." Zena said with a hint of frustration. She noticed it in the same way that Coco did. This group cannot beat Aziel.

"Switching gears, Coco, I have two questions for you."

"What's up, Fenrir?"

"The first is do you think there are other creatures we will need to worry about when fighting this thing?"

"Hmm, I highly doubt it. I am not fully sure how this domain works, but my guess is that Aziel is this area's apex predator, and due to this storm it must be enraged. So things either fled from the storm or are already dead." Coco said this feeling ninety percent confident in her answer.

"Second, is the water here made of magic?"

"Yeah, I think so anyway. Assuming this domain is a spell that David casted, then this world must be made of mana. How he made it to have his own ecosystem is beyond me though." Coco said in awe of Greed's self contained world.

"If the water here is magic, then I can absorb it, granting me a large power boost. I probably can't kill the thing, but damaging it? That seems doable." Fenrir explained.

With no other creatures to worry about, Fenrir could theoretically absorb a bunch of water magic then do an all out assault against Aziel, and theoretically injure it.

The sound of lighting made a loud CRACK sound outside the cabin. The lighting was close, but did not hit the ship head on.

Coco took a deep breath before continuing. "Not a bad plan. Are any of us any use in water besides Fenrir? Alex, do you have a water summons?" Coco asked, trying to figure out other possible routes to victory.

"Nope! I have Milo and Fredrick, my baby dragons, I also have a deer, treant, and a Jackalope. Since I grew up in the elven forest, my only real options were forest based animals."

Coco ran her fingers through her hair, knocking off her hood for the first time in awhile. "Zena?"

"I can move fast in water, but that's about it."

"All I can do is shield, so it looks like we will just have to back up Fenrir when the time is right." Coco said concluding her thoughts.

"Right! Anything else we should do in the meantime?" Alex said, looking around the room again.

Coco walked over to some clutter near the captain's desk and moved things around. After a moment.

"Here, catch." Coco tossed two items towards Zena. There were two mana potions. "One for you and the other for Fenrir."

Zena handed Fenrir his potion, the two then began to drink from the glass containers.

"Are you sure it's alright to take those things?" Alex asked, a little worried that the group was stealing.

"Rule number four, 'Any and all items found during the event are yours to use until the event ends.'" Coco said as though reciting from a book.

"Oh, I totally forgot about that!"

"Besides we are doing the captain a favor in helping him hunt this thing down, so I'd say a potion or two isn't that big a deal." Fenrir added on after having finished his drink.

"Right!"

The rain, lightning, and winds had picked up immensely throughout their conversation. Now it had reached its apex, howling winds and shattering lighting noises were being made all around the crew.

"Seriously!?! Is the Captain gonna be ok?" Alex asked, being stressed out by the noises.

"We had better hope so." Fenrir said waiting for any kind of news to present itself.

The group waiting for a while longer is silence with the outside noises slowly but surely becoming deafening.

Then, suddenly, without warning, all of the noises came to an astounding pause.

Shortly after the noises came to an end, Captain Treon opened the door to the cabin, sunlight peering through. Coco, as if out of instinct threw her hood back on.

Sunlight filled the floor as the door was fully opened.

What was once dark and gloomy clouds, black filled waters, lightning raining from the sky in constant formation, with record breaking winds all surrounding the ship had now become obsolete.

It was quiet and sunny.

"Common out already."

Team Earth stepped outside of the cabin and onto the deck.

The sun's rays beating down on them. They took a breath of fresh air, much better than the dusty air in the cabin.

The ship had received some damage from the wind and lightning, but was still operational and not in any real danger.

There is only one word that could describe what every member of the group was feeling in this moment.

Afraid.
