Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

On the surface—

If letting Eirin use you as a lab subject for one full-body exam earned you her perfect growth plan,

then!

Even with "Eternity and the Instant" layered on its threshold, Eientei's door would be worn down by all the footsteps.

"Take this."

Eirin handed Ren a vial of emerald liquid. "Drink it and your body will revert to an optimal state. Only then will the exam mean anything. The bath is over there; a robe is prepared inside."

"Got it."

Since he'd agreed, Ren didn't hesitate—downed the potion in one go and headed for the bath.

"Eirin, you are not allowed to harm Father,"

Kaguya warned very seriously once Ren left.

"Your Highness, I've no intention of harming him,"

Eirin replied evenly. "He's too unusual. I need an in-depth examination; otherwise his gifts will be squandered."

"These past years he's worked hard, yes—but much of that effort has been wasted. It looks like diligence, but it's actually suppressing what he can do."

"That's true."

Kaguya exhaled and nodded, reassured. She trusted Eirin.

And besides—

Eirin wasn't wrong. With Auntie's help, Ren had grown by the rough road; not useless work, but far from maximum efficiency.

By Eirin's projection, Ren's current progress could be reached in as little as two years.

Of course—

How much pain would that take? Don't ask.

Cover fifteen years in two—of course it'll hurt.

"Please rest at your leisure, Your Highness."

Estimating the time, Eirin rose and walked toward the exam room.

Inside—

Ren finished bathing, changed into a white robe, and came out toweling his hair… only to find someone already waiting in a big executive chair.

Eirin had even changed into a pink nurse outfit. Long legs sheathed in white stockings, white heels—a flawless nurse getup.

"This is…?"

Ren wasn't the type to freeze at the sight of a pretty face.

Anyway,

it's not like he'd never eaten meat before. He just found the whole setup odd. Also—where did she even pull that outfit and chair from?

And…

Only now did he really look at the equipment arrayed around the room. Was lunar technology really this outrageous?

"Dressed like this, I can better stimulate you and capture the precise data I want. Let's begin."

Eirin's voice was cool—but paired with that outfit and that line…

Yeah.

It was stimulating.

Ren didn't argue. He lay down on the lone operating table as instructed.

Er…

You can laugh, but lying on an operating table with Eirin at your elbow would make anyone a little nervous.

What followed—

Ren became a compliant mannequin, letting Eirin run every test she asked for, from head to toe—so thorough it was almost absurd.

He'd had "full checkups" before his rebirth; compared to Eirin's?

Child's play.

Not worth mentioning.

The entire session ran nearly three hours before they finally hit 99%. Why 99%? Because one last item remained.

"So…"

Ren wasn't embarrassed—just baffled—sitting on the table with his legs braced. "Eirin, how exactly do you want me to handle this one?"

Right. The final test. But how were they supposed to… test that?

He couldn't exactly—do it by hand, could he?

Or—

call Saeko over and do it right there?

Either way felt… a bit much.

"Hold on a moment."

Eirin was still logging data—down to a scalp-tingling degree of detail, even cataloging his emotions.

She didn't just log "emotions," either; she subdivided them into a dizzying taxonomy—and took readings for each category.

Anyone else would've needed a month or two to complete a record like this.

"All right. I'll collect the sample myself."

Setting down her clipboard, Eirin turned. Her white-stockinged legs crossed, then she rose and came toward him.

"Huh?"

The tap of heels on the floor made Ren's scalp tingle. What was even happening?

Especially when—

Eirin stepped up, calm as could be, and pinned her hair up.

An hour later—

Ren left the exam room in a long coat. His steps were a touch unsteady—not because he was physically drained, but because his mind hadn't quite caught up.

"Father-sama."

Kaguya sat in Eientei's rear courtyard, sipping tea, and greeted him with a smile.

"Kaguya." Ren sat, picked up a cup—didn't even check whose—and drained it, only then settling down.

"Heh…"

Watching him, Kaguya could guess the general shape of what had happened, and couldn't help covering her mouth with a quiet laugh.

Ren shook his head, a wry note in his voice. "Eirin… is like that…"

"Father-sama, how was Eirin's technique?"

"I've looked into it—this was her first time."

"After all,"

"aside from you, Father-sama, no one else would ever catch her eye."

Kaguya tilted her head, openly curious.

"…"

Ren listened to his daughter, fell silent for a beat, then said nothing—

and simply raised his thumb.
