The Purgatory was a fitting name for the battered Marine caravel. It was a vessel trapped between death and a new life, just like its new captain.
We'd spent the last hour hauling supplies from the shipwright's—paid for with a fraction of the 500,000 Berries I'd "liberated"—while Elara plotted a course into the Grand Line.
Riyon, my new First Mate, was a changed man. The drunken, nihilistic haze was gone, replaced by the sharp, focused energy of a predator given new purpose. .
He was currently lashing down barrels on the deck, his movements economical and precise. His Supreme Grade sword, Nagasone Okisato, was now belted securely at his waist, a constant, lethal presence.
I stood at the helm, the 100,000,000 Berry bounty poster clutched in my hand. "Monkey D. 'Suncorch' Luthor." A name forged in fire and treason. A declaration.

I snapped out of my thoughts. Elara was looking at me, a smirk on her face. "You've been staring at that bounty poster for ten minutes. Getting cold feet?"
I looked at the poster, at my 100,000,000 Berry value. Then I looked at my crew.
"No," I said, my voice quiet, but with the first hint of the sun's pride returning, even though it was my night form.
"I was just calculating our future."
I folded the poster and tucked it into my jacket.
"Elara, set the course for the nearest inhabited island. Riyon!"
The swordsman looked up, his hand on his hilt. "Captain."
"Find me the training yard on this ship," I said, walking toward him. "My daily quests just arrived."

I smirked. "Very well. My first act as Captain is to accept my First Mate's challenge."
As the Purgatory finally caught the wind and sailed away from Whisperwind Isle, the sound of steel cutting the air began. My new journey, my path of strength, had truly begun.
