Nathan walked back toward the house with stiff steps, the cold wind biting at his ears. He didn't bother to say goodnight, he just needed to get to his room. He was grateful that the door had been repaired. He tried opening and closing the door, then locking it. Perfect.
When he opened the door to try it again, a hand pushed it open. He was startled.
Alexander. The man stood in the doorway, holding the door open and smiling.
Nathan let go of the door handle and stared at the man. "What is it?"
Alexander's voice came casually calm. "Security escort. Very dangerous hallway. Might be haunted."
Nathan rolled his eyes. "Go haunt someone else. I'm going to sleep."
But the man stepped inside, causing Nathan to reflexively step back.
"I didn't put a lock on it so you could lock yourself in. I don't want what happened last time to happen again, I'm serious. I don't want you to lock yourself in," said Alexander.
