Chapter 7 - Zhao Kongcheng's Cavalry

In the evening, at the entrance of Cangnan Second High School.

A middle-aged man leaned against the wall dejectedly, a large pile of cigarette butts at his feet. His eyes were bloodshot, and his entire being exuded an indescribable loneliness.

Before Furina even got close, she heard the man grumbling, "Yesterday, I clearly saw that kid wearing the Cangnan Second High School uniform! Could it be that he guessed I was coming to stake him out and just didn't show up today?

Why did I take on this mission? My legs are numb from standing. But if I go back empty-handed, won't I lose face?"

Furina was amused at first glance. Oh, isn't this Zhao Kongcheng, the one every transmigrator comes to tease? How did he get so pathetic?

"Yo, who are you waiting for, mister?"

Hearing the voice, Zhao Kongcheng looked down to see a completely unfamiliar face, then disappointedly shifted his gaze back to the school gate and picked up a hand-drawn portrait from the side, asking,

"Have you seen the person in this picture?"

Furina looked at the abstract lines on the A4 paper in front of her, forming what could barely be called a human face, and her mouth twitched fiercely.

No? I knew Lin Qiye was somewhat famous at Cangnan Second High School, but no one told Zhao Kongcheng why Lin Qiye wasn't here today.

With this abstract painting skill, which is ahead of all of Great Xia, who wouldn't be confused?

"This… mister, I think I might know why you can't find him."

"Hmm?" Zhao Kongcheng looked down at Furina. "What's the reason?"

Furina was uncharacteristically silent for a moment before deciding to speak euphemistically: "It's your breathtaking painting skills that make it impossible for ordinary people to tell what you've drawn."

Zhao Kongcheng's eyes narrowed slightly, pretending not to care, but the way his lips were pursed made it hard to guess what he was thinking.

Furina: …(●—●) Oh no, Zhao Kongcheng really doesn't seem to have understood what I meant.

In the distance, Lin Qiye walked over with a depressed expression, holding a diagnostic report. He had only gone to inquire about Nyx's condition. But why was he suspected of being mentally ill again?

Never mind himself, but why was the doctor he consulted also arrested as a mental patient?

Lin Qiye walked towards Zhao Kongcheng and Furina, deep in thought.

Sharp-eyed Furina quickly spotted Lin Qiye walking towards them. So, she no longer hesitated and said to Zhao Kongcheng,

"Mister, if you're waiting for a student from Cangnan Second High School, that should be the last one. Everyone else has left."

As she spoke, she pointed at Lin Qiye walking towards them. Then, as if remembering something, she pulled a letter from her pocket and continued,

"Oh, and he asked me to give this to you. Keep it safe."

After ensuring Zhao Kongcheng saw Lin Qiye, Furina skipped away.

Zhao Kongcheng's gaze upon seeing Lin Qiye was like that of a single, twenty-year-old office worker seeing a petite and lovely beauty; his eyes went straight.

He turned back, took the letter Furina handed him, thanked her, and then sprinted towards Lin Qiye.

When Lin Qiye sensed Zhao Kongcheng rapidly approaching him, his dejected expression began to change from shock and confusion to terror, and he ultimately turned and ran.

Furina, who had already left, poked her head out from the corner again, watched the two running under the streetlights, and pressed the shutter.

Caption: It's Lin Qiye and Zhao Kongcheng's lost youth… Inside a couple's hotel, Lin Qiye and Zhao Kongcheng, who had been forcibly brought there, sat facing each other. The entire room was filled with a pink ambiance.

In the corner, a stream of water held a camera, secretly recording the scene in the room… "Thank you for telling me so much. I will sign the non-disclosure agreement."

As he spoke, Lin Qiye walked towards the door.

Zhao Kongcheng, seeing Lin Qiye about to leave, suddenly said, "Wait!"

Lin Qiye, whose hand was already on the doorknob, paused at Zhao Kongcheng's voice, turning to look at him again.

"What is it now?"

Zhao Kongcheng scratched his head and pulled a letter from his clothes pocket. "What is this?"

Lin Qiye was completely bewildered by Zhao Kongcheng's sudden question.

"It's a letter. Are you trying to trick me into joining the Night Watcher?"

Zhao Kongcheng, seeing the bewildered Lin Qiye, also became confused.

"I know it's a letter, but didn't you give it to me? What's with that 'I don't know anything' expression?"

"I didn't give it to you. Before this, I've only seen you once." Lin Qiye looked bewildered, and Zhao Kongcheng was also full of suspicion. The two stared at each other, and the atmosphere became a bit awkward.

After a while, Zhao Kongcheng rephrased: "It's true you didn't give it to me, but you asked someone else to give it to me, right?"

After saying this, the image of the girl who delivered the letter to him flashed in Zhao Kongcheng's mind.

He had a feeling he had overlooked something.

"No, I can be very certain that I didn't entrust anyone to deliver a letter to you." Lin Qiye shook his head with absolute certainty, indicating that there was no such thing.

To verify his suspicion, Zhao Kongcheng slowly opened the letter.

Lin Qiye, remembering Zhao Kongcheng saying that this letter was something he had entrusted someone else to deliver to Zhao Kongcheng, also leaned over curiously.

Is it okay to read a letter I supposedly sent myself?

The envelope slowly opened. What greeted their eyes was a photograph. In the photo, Zhao Kongcheng helplessly waved at Lin Qiye, while Lin Qiye turned and walked away, with no reluctance towards Zhao Kongcheng in his eyes, only a longing to go home.

In the middle of the two, also in the center of the picture, a golden crack perfectly separated the two, and also perfectly divided the photo into two parts.

"This!" Lin Qiye's pupils constricted in shock when he saw this photo. Wasn't this the photo from the day he opened his eyes? How could this be?

At this moment, Lin Qiye thought of many things, even suspecting that someone wanted to harm his family.

And on the other side, Zhao Kongcheng considered even more.

He was shocked to discover that the photo was taken from above, meaning the person who provided this photo was the owner of the unknown Forbidden Relic he had accidentally seen that day when stretching. He had taken the picture.

And because he was so eager to find the Seraphim Agent Lin Qiye, he had actually overlooked that the girl who had just delivered the letter to him happened to have white hair tied in two long braids!

Thinking of this, Zhao Kongcheng quickly opened his earphone communication: "Report, Captain, the unknown Forbidden Relic owner just sent me a letter. It can be confirmed that she is a girl with long white hair.

Because my mind was entirely focused on finding the Seraphim Agent at the time, I was negligent and failed to recognize her. However, she has not shown any hostility so far…"

"Zhao Kongcheng, there's a line of text on the back of this photo, come take a look." Lin Qiye accidentally dropped the photo, revealing its back.

"Let me see." Zhao Kongcheng walked over and picked up the photo.

A passage was written on the back of the photo:

[Once upon a time, there was a horse that no one would ride, only when Zhao Kongcheng came, it would allow him to ride. Do you know why?]

Zhao Kongcheng's mouth almost split to his ears when he saw this passage. Didn't this mean that the horse only recognized him, Zhao Kongcheng?

Lin Qiye frowned; his intuition told him something was off.

Sure enough, the next line of text was prominently displayed:

[Because of Peppa Pig (Pei Qi, which sounds like 'match ride' in Chinese)]
