Chapter 4 - "Kuoh Academy's New Devil"

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

The sleeping beauty stirred, her eyes fluttering open. They were the softest shade of green—clear as gemstones, hypnotic, and impossible to look away from.

Rias saw that Jack was already awake, sitting up sluggishly. "Morning already…?" she murmured, stretching lazily.

Without the slightest hint of modesty, she sat upright, her perfect figure completely on display. She arched her back with a yawn. "Good morning."

"Morning…"

Jack's mind flashed back to the last thing he remembered before blacking out—the image of this very girl. He gathered his thoughts. "You're the one who saved me last night, right?"

Rias smiled and bent one of her long legs, resting her chin on her knee. Her gaze softened, warm and almost possessive, as if she were admiring a precious treasure.

"Of course. You gave me quite a bit of trouble, you know."

Her lips curved up in amusement. "I'm Rias Gremory, a demon—and your master. So, from now on, I'll be counting on you, Jack."

"…A demon? Master?"

He blinked, trying to digest the avalanche of bizarre information, his confusion plain on his face. "Wait, what's going on? That woman with wings from yesterday—who was she? Why did she try to kill me?"

Rias sighed, tilting her head. "That's a long story. The short version: she was a fallen angel. She approached you to see if you carried a Sacred Gear. Once she confirmed it, her mission was to eliminate you."

Sacred Gear…

Jack thought of that sudden burst of power—the sword and shield that had materialized out of nowhere, the very weapons that had obliterated Amano Yuma.

"But… why would something like that be inside me?"

"No idea," Rias said lightly. "Throughout history, lots of famous people were born with Sacred Gears. Maybe the gods just take a special liking to some."

Jack fell silent. Now that he understood the truth, he couldn't help but feel ridiculous. He had actually mistaken a fallen angel for some kind of scammer…

Tch. Who the hell could've guessed any of this? The whole damn worldview's broken at this point…

"Well, thanks for saving me anyway," he said at last. "But… what exactly do you mean by 'master'?"

His gaze drifted—again—to Rias. No matter how he tried, he couldn't help but react.

This girl's figure is insane…

She was sitting there on his bed, completely relaxed, not a hint of shame on her. He coughed awkwardly and forced himself to look away. Despite the tension in the air, this was, technically, their first real conversation.

What the hell is going on with my life? This feels more sci-fi than anything…

Rias noticed the hunger in his eyes and smirked, unbothered. She sat there proudly, letting him look all he wanted. "It's exactly what it sounds like," she said playfully. "I'm your master. You've been reborn as my devil servant. Oh, and by the way, you're a real demon now."

She stood and walked closer, smiling up at him. Standing, her beauty was almost overwhelming.

"What's with the shy eyes? Want to look? Go ahead, I don't mind."

Do demons just… not have shame?

Jack sighed internally. He realized it was pointless to apply human logic to her. Still… he couldn't say he disliked this side of her.

As for being a demon—he couldn't bring himself to care much. After being attacked by a fallen angel, he'd already lost any warm feelings he might've had toward "heavenly beings."

"So, uh," he said carefully, "last night was just… healing, right?"

Rias giggled, the sound low and teasing. "Hehe, you really do think like a human, don't you? But don't worry—I'm still pure~"

She leaned in close, whispering into his ear, voice dripping with mischief. Even as she stepped away to get dressed, that sultry, otherworldly aura of hers didn't fade in the slightest.

Jack just shook his head silently, watching her move. Every small gesture, every flick of her hair seemed deliberately seductive.

"Could you fasten this for me?"

Rias turned her back to him, sweeping her crimson hair over one shoulder and revealing smooth, pale skin.

Jack arched a brow. By now, he'd calmed down completely—and honestly, he wasn't about to pass up the offer.

"With pleasure."

He stepped forward, fastening the clasp carefully. Then he grabbed his own clothes and dressed quickly.

Rias sat back down on the bed, pulling on a pair of white ankle socks as she spoke casually, "You're coming with me to school later. I'll introduce you to the others and get your club registration sorted out."

"Alright."

After what he'd seen of Rias's power, Jack wasn't about to argue. He already knew his normal, peaceful days were gone for good.

When Rias finally finished dressing, her alluring figure now hidden beneath layers of fabric, Jack opened the curtains.

Sunlight streamed in. He stood there for a moment, clenching his fists. His body thrummed with energy—like there was endless power flowing inside him.

So this is what she meant by a devil's body…

Life really was unpredictable. A few days ago, he'd died and somehow crossed into another world. Now, he'd died again—only to come back as a demon. In just a handful of days, his life had gone through more upheaval than the past twenty-something years combined.

Rias brushed her hair back and smiled. "Come on, we'll be late."

The two of them left the house together, heading toward the school.

It wasn't too far, but by the time they arrived, other students were already gathering. And when people saw Jack walking beside Rias, their jaws practically hit the floor.

After all, Rias Gremory was the number one beauty of Kuoh Academy—the untouchable ice queen every guy admired from afar. No one had ever seen her act close with anyone before.

Jack sighed inwardly. So much for blending in. Guess my peaceful, average life's officially over.

Walking next to a girl like that, there was no way to stay invisible.

"You don't seem to like attention much," Rias said casually. "You're always wearing that fake smile, keeping everyone at arm's length."

Her words hit a little too close. Jack paused for a second before replying flatly, "In this world, being too noticeable—or too ordinary—never ends well."

"Oh? So you pretend to be average just to stay in that sweet spot between invisible and disconnected?" Rias chuckled softly. "What a strange guy. You really don't like people, huh?"

"It's not that," he said, eyes forward. "I just don't need them."

Rias smiled faintly. "Heh… I like that. Strong-willed types are my favorite. Let's hope, in time, we'll become people you do care about."

"..."
