Audrey's POV
The dagger reached its apex, a silver sliver of death against the darkening sky. I braced, a useless, furious cry trapped in my bruised throat.
A blinding pulse of blue-white energy screamed past my head, missing me by inches. It struck the masked figure square in the chest with a sound like cracking ice. He was ripped from his crouch and thrown backward, slamming into the thick grass wall with a sickening thud before collapsing in a heap.
The sudden silence was deafening. My ears rang.
I whipped my head toward the source of the blast.
Dave stood at the entrance to the maze corridor, his hand still outstretched, fingers crackling with fading energy. His face was a mask of cold fury, his eyes glowing with an unearthly, electric blue light. How did he get here? How did he even know I was in the maze?
Before I could process it, Dominic appeared from the other side, his usual casual demeanor gone, replaced by sharp urgency. He rushed to my side, dropping to a knee.
