Chapter 2 - Abnormals

And it was then that he suddenly opened his eyes, taking a long breath. He seemed more surprised than horrified, with the face of someone who didn't even know he had been sleeping like a baby in a classroom. Thus, he found himself in a school uniform and behind a desk among about thirty other students.

He then understood that he was having yet another dream of that night. That night which dated back twelve years now.

— And here we are, the sleeping beauty has returned among us. Congratulations! said the teacher in an ironic and cheerful tone.

"Wahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha"

A wave of mockery coming from his classmates against the boy with delicately combed hair echoed through the classroom, bringing a brief moment of relaxation to the hearts of the students.

Only one person seemed not to share this amusing little moment. She even seemed to find it annoying when she turned her head to look at the boy behind her with a gaze that said quite enough about the fatigue and discomfort weighing on her heart. But she said nothing and turned back to follow the lesson.

— Alright, that's enough. It's over now, let's get back to our special lesson of the day, said the teacher while restoring order in the class. So, where was I?

— On the abnormals, teacher, informed a boy sitting in the front, specifically the date of their appearance.

— Ah yes… so… Hum, I was saying that the abnormals had existed since the dawn of time according to certain sources, but the lack of means to trace back with accuracy to when their first appearances dated from forces us to refer to the document which states that they are exceptional beings who were there at the same time as man. Thus, their sudden popularity in the twentieth century, which keeps increasing again and again up to this day, is not a reference to affirm their true dates of appearance in the world.

While the teacher was speaking with overflowing passion, most of the students were quietly browsing the Web where they could access all the data of this lesson. As for our little boy, now a teenager, he was still covering his mouth while yawning and trying to get rid of that irresistible urge to sleep that was burning his pupils.

— You must also know that there exists an undefined number of types of abnormals. That means they are not all of the same nature. And obviously, some countries possess unique abnormals linked to their homelands. And all the countries of the world do not have the same kinds of abnormality. For this reason, our country possesses only three kinds for now, which obviously all come, more or less, from different abnormalities. Thus, there are the… oh, said the teacher upon seeing the young boy fall asleep again, using his bag as a sleeping pillow. It seems the princess of princes has once again returned to his castle beside Morpheus.

"Bwahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha"

The students mocked him again, and the young girl, without turning around, furrowed her brow once more, more than usual.

— So, who timed it? asked the teacher.

— Me, answered a girl, he lasted one minute and forty-five seconds before falling asleep.

— And who won the bet of the day? asked another student.

— It's George who got the closest to the exact number with his "one minute forty-three." Still, he really is a case, that guy, said the girl while turning her head toward the boy sleeping in the classroom.

The teacher looked at him in turn and sighed.

— Ah, he could at least make an effort even if he has the best grades in the entire history of the high school.

After that, the teacher resumed his special lesson and daily life returned to its normal course as if nothing had happened. The class already seemed to have gotten used to this little spectacle to the point of having dedicated a small prize to it by means of a daily bet.

Time flew by, the classes ended, the sun continued its course with no cloud on the horizon, and a magnificent day was appearing on the horizon.

Everything was going well in the best of worlds.

After dismissal, the boy left the school in his turn and, a few hours later, he joined a classmate. The only one who did not make fun of him while the others laughed wholeheartedly. She had abandoned the school uniform that did not highlight her, compared to the lovely silk skirt she was wearing under a long-sleeved outfit of black color, matching her hair and her skin color, as black as the night, with a certain radiance that only a black woman could possess.

Earrings, lipstick, and jewelry on her neck, wrists, and ankles, she was so ravishing that the goddess of love and beauty would be jealous of her smile. Surely, she had made herself beautiful. Which was not the case of our dear friend who, on the contrary, had come in shorts made to let the air in and a large branded t-shirt on top, with a watch in his hand and a cold drink between his hands.

— Have you been waiting long? he asked.

— Yes, it's been half an hour since I arrived, she answered with her graceful and gentle voice.

— Ah, sorry. I had fallen asleep on the couch and...

— Let's go, she cut him off while beginning to walk.

Leaving the corner of the wall to enter the crowd that was walking along this great and beautiful street filled with passersby of all and every gender, the two young teenagers began their walk.
