Chapter 1: XO
Kitty Song Covey has always believed in love — especially long-distance love. For four years, she and her boyfriend, Dae, have been in a relationship that existed only through texts, video calls, and care packages. Kitty feels that she knows him better than anyone else, and now she wants to turn her dream into reality.
As the youngest Covey sister, Kitty has seen how her older sisters, Lara Jean and Margot, found love. Now, it's her turn. She gets accepted into the Korean Independent School of Seoul — better known as KISS — the same school her mom once attended, and coincidentally, where Dae studies too. Kitty believes it's destiny, both for her and for learning more about her late mother's life in Korea.
Her dad, Dr. Covey, worries about her moving so far away, but Kitty is determined. She promises to take care of herself and stay focused. After saying emotional goodbyes to her family, Kitty boards a plane to Seoul, carrying hope, love, and way too many suitcases.
When she arrives in Korea, she's amazed by how lively everything is — neon lights, street food smells, and the busy energy of Seoul. She feels a mix of nerves and excitement. Everything is so new, but all she can think about is finally meeting Dae.
At KISS, Kitty immediately stands out. The school is full of students from all over the world — stylish, confident, and speaking a mix of English and Korean. She meets her new roommates, Q and Min Ho. Q is friendly and calm, but Min Ho is snobbish and teasing, instantly judging Kitty for her "small-town American" energy.
Kitty doesn't care — she's here for love.
But when she finally sees Dae in the school courtyard, her heart races. He's right there — her Dae! She starts walking toward him, ready for their first real hug. But then something shocking happens. A black luxury car pulls up, and out steps Yuri Han — the most popular girl at KISS. She grabs Dae's hand and walks with him like they're a couple.
Kitty freezes. She can't believe what she's seeing. Did Dae move on? Was their whole relationship just a fantasy?
Her excitement turns into heartbreak and confusion.
As she stands there watching Dae and Yuri walk away, Kitty realizes that her perfect plan for love might be a lot more complicated than she though.
