Chapter 204 - Chapter 197: The Dark Beast Wizard

The cavernous chamber was a tomb of metal, a vast, echoing space with walls and ceiling of cold, riveted steel that swallowed all natural light and warmth. It was less a room and more a sealed bunker, immense in its scale, and drenched in a suffocating darkness. The only interruption to the gloom was a single, harsh, circular spotlight suspended high above a raised, central stage.

Below the stage, stretching back into the impenetrable shadows, stood an army. Witches, wizards, hulking giants whose forms were barely contained by their robes, compact, sharp-eyed goblins, and a host of other intelligent magical beings—centaurs, Veela, even a few ghosts and a vampire—stood shoulder-to-shoulder, a restless, silent sea of bodies. All of them wore the same uniform: a tailored two-piece suit, over which was a hooded outer robe. was draped. The fabric, regardless of the wearer's species or size, was a shimmering, dense material with an intricate, repeating pattern of black dragon scales. Their faces were uniformly concealed behind black porcelain masks, each one sculpted to resemble a different snarling magical creature—a basilisk, a manticore, a griffin—lending the crowd the chilling, uniform appearance of a dark, bestial court. They stood utterly still, but a palpable, frantic energy vibrated off them. They were quivering with anticipation.

The silence was absolute, broken only by a sudden, rhythmic click-clack, click-clack that echoed unnaturally loud off the steel walls. The sound of heels walking across the floor.

A figure stepped from the deep shadows at the back of the raised stage and into the blinding pool of light. He was a man in an identical two-piece suit and outer hooded robe, but his fabric was a vivid, venomous green, the scales seeming to catch and magnify the overhead lamp. Unlike his followers, he wore no mask. The hood was pulled up, deliberately obscuring his face in a deep shadow; only the sharp line of his mouth and a pair of startling, intelligent violet eyes pierced the darkness. The source of the clicking sound was a pair of impossibly high, custom-made stiletto heels, which gave him an artificial, unnerving height as he walked to the center of the stage.

He stood before his silent, rapt congregation, slowly, deliberately pulling his hands from behind his back. The movement was a signal, and the crowd collectively held its breath. His voice, when it came, was a low, musical resonance that seemed to vibrate in the steel of the floor, not loud, but perfectly amplified in the cold air.

"Ladies, Gentlemen, witches and wizards, creatures and beings of all shapes and sizes." He paused, letting the silence stretch, his violet gaze sweeping over the masked faces. "What is our purpose?"

"To smite those who hide in the shadows!" the crowd thundered back, a single, unified roar that rattled the steel walls.

"And what do we do," he asked, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper that nonetheless filled the bunker, "to those who hide in the shadows?"

"We burn them in fire, dark dark fire," they replied, the words a chanting, violent symphony, "and bring them out to the light!"

The man tilted his head, the violet eyes gleaming with cruel amusement. "Do we give mercy to those who hide in the shadows?"

"No!" came the immediate, furious shout. "We never give mercy just as they do!"

"Good," he purred, the sound almost a hiss. "And what is our ultimate goal?"

The congregation answered with a fervent, desperate energy, their final, collective utterance: "To show those who think they know what darkness says and plunge them into nothing but a void! And to burn the dark lord away from history."

The man took a deliberate step further into the blinding circle of light. The hood shifted, revealing the sharp, predatory lines of his jaw and a chilling smile. His face, now visible to his followers, was that of Echo. With that smile, his perfect teeth seemed to sharpen, and a flickering, split snake tongue passed quickly over them.

"Good," Echo said, his voice now a whip-crack of triumph. "Then let The Hunt commence. And burn away the darkness to expose the light."

As if summoned by his decree, an even larger, vaster shape appeared directly behind him, unfolding from the shadows high above the stage. When it fully revealed itself in the harsh spotlight, it was Wick, Echo's Hebridean black dragon, a mountain of muscle and scale. She stood on the stage, dwarfing her master, and opened her immense, leathery wings, which stretched out and scraped the steel walls.

With a sound like a furnace being opened, Wick let loose a jet of brilliant, searing fire. It wasn't directed at the crowd, but upwards, against the cavernous ceiling. The pure, black-hot flame illuminated the entire room, revealing the full, terrifying scale of the masked army and the intricate dragon-scale pattern of their robes, finally banishing the all-consuming gloom.
