It was almost like a stone had been thrown straight at Kai's face, because he froze mid-step. His entire body locked in place. His father figure—someone close to him, someone he trusted—couldn't possibly have betrayed him by capturing his lover.
That alone felt unreal.
"Did we hear you well?" Kai finally asked, his voice tight. "You said… you are with Travis?"
Even Lucas was beginning to look wary now. An unimaginable chill crawled down his spine as he stared at Master Vaelis. And when he looked more closely at the plates they had used to eat, his heart skipped violently. There were modern sigils drawn boldly across them—human sigils. Clear as day.
Things weren't right.
Why was there a human design here when none of them were supposed to be close by? With everything they had experienced back at the pyramid safe zone, with the lizard people, they had clearly seen humans there. So how was this possible?
Something wasn't adding up.
