Chapter 5 - PROPOSAL GONE WRONG

She interrupted him before he could continue talking.

She was determined not to let his mood spoil things.

So she bent quickly towards her bag that was on the chair, her tiny hands shaking as she brought out the small velvet box.

Babe, this isn't just about our anniversary she said to him.

He opened his mouth countless times to talk but words failed him.

Babe you know the forever we talked about, the very one we promised ourselves.

He didn't say a word he just watched her.

 I want it with you.

At that moment it felt like everything went still and it was just them.

Even the waiter who had waited long enough to witness her confession, quickly ran away.

Once again happy anniversary baby, so please will you do me the honor she said passing the small velvet box to him.

She leaned forward, her eyes wide open, her expectations high, hoping and praying he had break into a smile.

And just like that he slapped the ring away from her hand.

The tiny box fell from her hand and the ring rolled away before her eyes.

Her hands slowly fell to her side, her mouth wide open, why did you do that. She said her lips trembling.

His voice was as cold as ice. This thing between us, he said gesturing with he hands, it can't work anymore.

You don't mean that Ethan, I know you don't, please tell me it's a joke.

I mean it, his jaw clenched, I am tired of you always forcing yourself on me.

I came here today to tell you, there is someone else already.

And news flash, she is carrying my child.

No no no, she said shaking her head in disbelief.

That's not true Ethan come off it. She said with a tiny bit of hope.

It is what it is man, he said with a tiny smile.

At those words Elena felt like someone had just pierced her heart with a knife.

His smile only made it worse.

 After five years Ethan.

Was any of this real? She asked her voice weak.

He didn't answer instead he kept walking away.

He didn't stop, he didn't even look back, as he walked towards the door without hesitation.

Please tell me...her voice came out as a whisper.

Did you ever love me, even a tiny bit.

But he opened the door and walked out.leaving her words hanging in the air.

In an attempt to stop him, her disguise fell off and she didn't even notice.

 ***

 Unknow.

Lucas had taken several pictures of Elena already and yet the mystery guy hadn't showed up.

One thing he hated was waiting.

This better be worth it he muttered under his breath.

Then his attention difted to a brunette just across the street, he watched from his window, as she got into a heated conversation with a guy, who he assumed was her boyfriend, she was pointing accusing fingers at the guy who looked guilty.

The way she pushed his chest, then walked off, before coming to shout in his face again.

 Ha ha

He let out a small laugh, It was entertaining to watch.

He smirked, break up drama is the real content now he said to himself.

 Click.

 Click.

He took a few shots, lots of captions were already running through his head.

Guess today is International break up day, he said amused.

His eyes were so focused on them that he didn't see when Elena's guest arrived.

By the time he shifted his lens towards the rooftop Elena's guest was already seated across her.

 Lucas frowned.

Fuck he cursed under his breath,

He had missed the shot of the mystery man's face.

He was mad at himself, for being careless, so how then will the world know the face of the guy Elena is trying to hide from them.

He asked no one in particular.

 Click click.

He began. He captured everything without missing a piece.

At some point he almost dropped his camera to the ground. He had expected for everything to go well, after all it was Elena Moore who was proposing.

But what he witnessed was very much different from what he expected.

The brunette couple's fight from earlier seemed childish, compared to this, and right in front of him was the real heartbreak.

And every second of it was captured by him.

 Click click.

He adjusted his lens, zooming in on Elena's uncovered face, her cap now laying on the floor.

And for the first time he saw a part of her that no one had ever seen.

She looked very vulnerable and tired.

Her eyes were puffy from tears, her hands were even shaking.

A part of him wanted to stop taking pictures of her, but he didn't stop.

After sometime Lucas paused and took in a quick breath.

He had a perfect story that was going to change everything.

But for the first time he was confused.

 ***

 Elena Moore.

She stood rooted to her spot, with lots of thoughts.

This was definitely not how she had imagined the night to end.

But, She wasn't going to let herself been seen chasing after a man who didn't even want her anymore.

She walked back to her seat, the ring long forgotten, she grabbed the handle of her bag, took one last look at the rooftop, the untouched cake, the gift that were still wrapped and just like that she walked out, like she never came.
