Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: Meeting Ash

With the Thunder Shock Net in hand, Alex Carter continued exploring the point mall. Among the breeding items, he discovered a red apricorn, Beedrill's favorite, priced at 100 points each. With this, Alex could let the prey come to him.

Alex purchased a red apricorn and crouched in a bush, crushing it on a stone outside while holding the Thunder Shock Net. Soon, a buzzing sound signaled the approach of a large Beedrill, which cautiously scanned its surroundings before settling on the stone with the red apricorn.

"Ding, there's a Beedrill three meters away.

An insect-type Pokémon with a volatile and irritable temperament, highly territorial, and prone to attacking humans. Exercise caution.

Learned skills: Agility, Poison Sting, Pin Missile.

Combat Power: 80 points."

..."As expected, evolved Pokémon are formidable in combat power and other aspects. If Gastly devours it, its combat power will increase significantly," Alex thought, crouched in the bush.

As the Beedrill ate the red apricorn, Alex swiftly used the Thunder Shock Net, capturing it and activating the current switch. The Beedrill was stunned, black circles appearing in its eyes as it lost combat ability.

"Gastly, go."

On Alex's command, Gastly approached and swallowed the Beedrill whole.

"Ding... Gastly successfully devoured Beedrill, Combat Power +15."

"Awakened new skill: Dark Pulse."

"Evolution value +10%."

Gastly's combat power surged, awakening a new skill and gaining 10% evolution value.

Having devoured the Beedrill, Gastly was noticeably larger, but it seemed sated and unlikely to use Devour again today.

Still, progress was promising.

Suddenly, the hum of several Beedrill filled the air, causing Alex to break into a cold sweat. One red apricorn had attracted multiple Beedrill.

With Gastly unable to devour more, and the Thunder Shock Net insufficient for handling several Beedrill at once, retreat was the prudent choice.

Thankfully, the Beedrill were focused on the apricorn, unaware of Alex. Moving quietly, Alex decided to keep a low profile in the Beedrill's territory.

As he navigated the underbrush, a small silver-white figure caught Alex's eye.

"Ding, there's a Shiny Weedle five meters away.

An insect-type Pokémon with a keen sense of smell, detecting favored and disliked leaves from afar. It has a Poison Sting on its head, posing some danger.

Learned skills: Poison Sting, String Shot, Growl.

Combat Power: 25 points."

The system's alert stunned Alex.

"A Shiny Weedle?" Alex marveled.

Shiny Pokémon are rare, with only one appearing among millions of regular Pokémon. Encountering one in the wild was incredibly fortunate.

Despite its weakness, a Shiny Weedle held greater combat power and training potential than its regular counterparts. Alex was determined.

"Weedle may be weak, but it's a Shiny Pokémon and evolves into a Poison-type, fitting my Villain persona," Alex mused, eyes fixed on Weedle.

"Gastly, use Hypnosis."

Alex acted without hesitation. Gastly, now stronger, could easily handle such a weak Pokémon.

Regardless of its Shiny status, its species' combat power was fixed. Its potential wouldn't manifest without proper training.

Gastly floated over, deploying Hypnosis.

Shiny Weedle resisted fiercely, attempting to flee, crawling into the bushes.

"Don't let it escape, use Dark Pulse—end it quickly," Alex commanded.

Gastly unleashed a powerful Dark Pulse, overwhelming Weedle. The Shiny Weedle succumbed, fainting instantly.

Seizing the moment, Alex threw a new Poké Ball, capturing Weedle successfully.

"Ding, congratulations Host on capturing Shiny Weedle."

"As this is the Host's first Shiny Pokémon capture, receive a system reward. Your Poké Ball is enhanced with Sanguine power, enabling rapid growth through Sanguine."

..."Sanguine Power?"

Alex's eyes widened. Gastly's Devour power was already exceptional, and now Weedle had Sanguine power. This was the path to greatness.

However, capturing the Weedle had drawn attention. Several Beedrill, its protectors, swarmed in response.

Yet, Alex remained calm, instructing Gastly to use Dark Pulse. In the forest's shadows, Gastly executed Nightmare and Mean Look on a Beedrill.

Though Nightmare and Mean Look seemed trivial, in close-range surprise, they were effective. The targeted Beedrill trembled, losing combat ability swiftly.

Alex seized the chance to use the Thunder Shock Net, incapacitating another Beedrill.

Of the three Beedrill, two were swiftly neutralized, boosting Alex's confidence. He had underestimated his abilities.

But the remaining Beedrill ascended, emitting a strange call.

"Ding, danger warning!"

"Beedrill is summoning reinforcements. An enraged Beedrill swarm poses immense danger to humans."

The system's warning echoed in Alex's mind. Right after capturing a Shiny Weedle, this was frustrating.

Facing a few Beedrill was feasible, but a full swarm spelled doom.

Run, run as fast as possible!

Alex's instincts screamed. He returned Gastly to its Poké Ball, sprinting towards Viridian City along the forest path.

On the main road, Alex spotted two teenagers, his age, engaged in a Pokémon battle with Metapod, repeatedly shouting "Harden!"

Nearby, a well-built girl lounged, sipping a drink, watching the dull match.

"This scene... and a Pikachu... isn't that Ash?"

Alex recalled growing up with Ash in Pallet Town. They'd been close, and Alex had seen Ash off when he left with Pikachu from Professor Oak.

Unexpectedly, they met again here.

With Beedrill's call, the Viridian Forest swarmed with agitated Beedrill.

A Beedrill swooped from the sky, snatching a battling Metapod.

"This plot... it's too familiar. I can't believe my actions led to Ash's Metapod being taken," Alex sighed.

But the Beedrill frenzy escalated.

Countless Beedrill filled the air.

"Ash, run! Hide!" Alex shouted urgently.
