Chapter 32 - Chapter 32 – The Roots Awaken

Year 12 – Mid-Summer, Aeltherion

The Mirror-Tree no longer slept. Its branches stretched across the crimson heavens, its roots plunged through the void. Each pulse of its core sent ripples through creation, touching realms long silent—Asgard, Muspelheim, and Niflheim.

The sky over Aeltherion shimmered with auroras of gold and fire. Every night, the air trembled with echoes of faraway thunder—the sound of gods stirring in their sleep.

Ketsuraku stood at the base of the Mirror-Tree, his cloak fluttering in the warm astral wind. The bark beneath his hand glowed faintly.

"It's reaching for them," he said quietly. "The old worlds."Beside him, Cartethyia's gray eyes reflected the living light."The roots remember every realm that once drank from the World Tree," she said. "But not all will welcome a reflection."

Ix's laughter slithered through the leaves like static.

"Good. Conflict is profitable."

The First Contact – Asgard

The first root breached the golden realm of Asgard—a world of thunder, law, and pride.

The reflection manifested in their sky as a crimson aurora. Gods of war and storm gathered on the rainbow bridge to witness it.A voice echoed from the light, deep and steady—Ketsuraku's, carried across reflection and blood.

"I am the River Jarl of Aeltherion. The Mirror-Tree grows again. Join me, or be forgotten when Nanook burns the skies."

The hall of Asgard shook with laughter. The war god Tyr, one arm forged from light, stepped forward.

"You dare to command the halls of gods, mortal?"The reflection answered not with words but with bloodlight—an image of Nanook devouring worlds, flame swallowing even divine gold.

Odin, the All-Father, rose from his throne of spears.

"If what you say is true, then we will not bow… but we will trade. Bring us a weapon worthy of Ragnarok, and we shall fight beside your river."

The Second Root – Muspelheim

The second root descended into Muspelheim, realm of flame and chaos.

It erupted from a sea of lava, forming a bridge of glass and magma. Demons and fire giants gathered, hissing as the reflection above cooled their fire.Ketsuraku appeared before them as an astral projection—his cloak fluttering like smoke.

The fire lord Surtr, towering and crowned in molten horns, laughed when he saw him.

"Another godling come to bargain?""A merchant," Ketsuraku corrected. "I sell survival. Payment is flame.""And if I refuse?""Then when Nanook comes, he'll use your ashes as torch fuel."

For a long moment, Surtr was silent. Then, grinning with teeth of ember, he thrust his sword into the ground.

"Forge my rage into your Mirror-Tree's heart. If it survives, I'll call you Jarl even in Muspelheim."

The Third Root – Niflheim

The third root coiled downward into Niflheim, realm of mist, cold, and death. Here, Hel's power lingered strongest.

The reflection cracked through frozen rivers, forming spirals of blood-ice. Spectral shapes emerged—warriors who had once died under Ketsuraku's banner, now summoned again through the link of reflection.

Hel herself appeared, her half-burned face lit by ghostly frost.

"You bring new life into the realm of the dead," she said. "Are you so eager to join them?"Ketsuraku bowed slightly. "I'll bring them back instead."

He held out the second seed of the Mirror-Tree. Frost crawled over its surface, fusing with spectral energy until it glowed pale blue.

"Then the dead will march with the living. Just remember, Jarl, every reflection must one day fade."

The Council of Reflections

Three projections flickered above the Mirror-Tree's canopy: Odin's golden light, Surtr's flame, and Hel's shadow.

Rosa stood beside Ketsuraku with her shinobi captains.Luminous floated holographic charts of the growing realm's economy.Cartethyia watched silently, her crown pulsing red.

"The gods are watching," Rosa murmured."Good," Ketsuraku said. "Let them see who sells destiny now."

He raised his hand toward the projections.

"The River will supply you with what you cannot make. In return, you fight when Nanook strikes.""And your price?" Odin asked."Simple," Ketsuraku replied. "You acknowledge Aeltherion as the center of the new Tree."

Even gods hesitated. But Surtr laughed first, flames spilling from his mouth.

"Then so be it! When the skies burn, I'll burn them for you!"Odin nodded once. "And I will forge the dawn's blade."Hel smiled faintly. "And I'll collect what's left."
