Chapter 1 - Chapter 1

I slid myself through the crowd of bothersome teenagers as I walked inside the entrance doors of the Red Wing. Being pushed and shoved by others I made my way through the hallways. My shoulders throbbing from the weight of my dufflebag. What a way to get through the hallway. Well these complications won't be existing by tomorrow. Tomorrow my day to day life will cease to be visible. Tomorrow I will change. I'll be living outside of these walls, outside of this life. After days and days of getting up from the early morning to study and to end it in exhaustion at the midst of night. I eventually get to leave all this behind by tomorrow.

I walk through the wide open doors of the Great Room. Shuffling my way through others I hurriedly walked over to the S table.

"Eight!"

I glance around to find Seven giving me a slap on the back, I don't seem to flinch since I'm used to him doing that. My face breaks into a smile.

"Ready for our new jobs?" He asks, nudging me on the shoulder.

"Scared," I say, setting my bag down on the table, while sitting down. He joins the seat next to me.

"Thats one thing," he chuckles. I join in, but the laughter stops as the lights flicker blue. Blue was unaccustomed. It was new.

A woman in a white suit walks up on the podium. Her blue epaulettes glimmering under the blue light. The woman's sudden appearance leaves everyone's eyes to linger in her direction. The stern look on her eyes brought out their blue color, and her shining blue streaks came out more from her white silver hair.

Everyone starts murmuring to each other. No one had ever seen another person from another wing. She must have been from the Blue Wing. Her eyes and her suit were a dead giveaway and this whole entrance. She really didn't feel like anyone from our wing apart from her looks. Her demeanor showed it all. Red Wings were just self-centered. But me and Seven weren't really self-centered.

"Blue Wing," I say, staring at her.

Seven nods.

The woman taps the microphone three times before she speaks. "Greetings Red Wing. I hope you all have enjoyed your time together very well with each other. It's now time to move on and get serious about what's now beyond us. To what's beyond these walls that have kept you in for so long."

She spoke in a very paralency tone.

"Kept you in for your whole life. But tomorrow everything changes. You change. You transform. You've prepared every moment of your life for this very moment. You've trained mentally and physically—"

Before the woman could finish she stops and takes a few steps back, covering her mouth she drops to the floor coughing out what seems to be red liquid. Blood. Screams erupt in the Great Room as others start coughing out blood from tables around us.

I cover my mouth in fear. I quickly turn around to find Seven throwing up.

"Seven?"

Oh no. Was he hit too? He coughs out green liquid.

"I'm fine, I just actually threw up from disgust."

I let out a sigh of relief.

"You think it's poison?"

"Let's hope not."

Before I could lean down and grab my backpack a boy across the table coughs up blood in his hand. His coughs become more frequent as he his head pools down. I pull my hands away and grip tight on my red uniform pants. The sight makes my blood run cold. I stared for a moment. The mystery poison must be coming from the meals. It makes sense since me and Seven didn't eat any of the meals. The ones who did are the ones with the poison in them which is why its resulting in them to start coughing. But it somewhat doesn't make sense. Eating the meal caused the person within three minutes to get the poison to react. But the woman had an entire ten minutes to get most of her speech in.

"Seven."

Seven breaks away from his bag and turns to me. "What?"

"I have a theory. The poison might be coming from the meals they had served on our tables before we came in. The poison reacted in three minutes, but the woman who did the speech had about ten. Do you possibly think it's in the meals?"

Seven thinks about it before he answers.
