The air in my lungs feels trapped, suffocating me. I have to escape this room immediately.
Every single item here screams of home, of everything I lost.
I rush to the bathroom and check each stall, confirming I'm alone before stumbling to the sink. Cold water splashes against my burning cheeks, but it does nothing to cool the fire raging inside me.
Why would he do this? Why would Nathan create this shrine to my family? Is this his twisted way of celebrating his victory? A monument to remind himself that he destroyed his closest friend? And that revelation - he doesn't realize I know Lance personally, yet he called him his best friend. Not former friend, not enemy, not even acquaintance. Best friend. And the way he said it, with such genuine pain in his voice.
