I shouldn't have allowed her to crawl beneath my defenses like that, yet here I am, completely undone.
The sound of her laughter still echoes in my mind. She had doubled over with genuine amusement at the mere suggestion that I could eliminate those responsible for destroying her family. Tears had actually rolled down her cheeks as if my promise was the most absurd thing she'd ever heard. Regardless of whether she possesses Alpha blood, which she clearly does, any wolf should sense my dominance. The northern territories breed the most formidable Alphas on this continent. Still, she had laughed as though I were some powerless male, incapable of defending her dignity or seeking vengeance in her name.
Never in my entire existence has anyone managed to make me feel so diminished. Not until this afternoon. That humiliation triggered something primal in me, and I completely lost my composure.
