Andre's POV
The harsh buzz of my phone cut through the peaceful morning silence like a blade. I groaned, tightening my hold on Meryl as she lay curled against my chest, her breathing still deep and even. My free hand fumbled across the nightstand, already irritated at whoever dared disturb us this early.
I didn't bother checking the caller ID before answering. "This better be life or death, or you're going to wish you were never born," I growled into the phone, my voice rough with sleep.
Caesar's familiar chuckle filtered through the speaker. "Easy there, Alpha. I'm calling with news you'll actually want to hear. Laird's been kicked out of the campaign."
Those words hit me like lightning. I sat up so fast that Meryl stirred beneath me, her hand automatically reaching for where I'd been lying. "What did you just say?"
