Meryl's POV
When I heard Gavin's gentle knock, I dragged myself off the bed. My eyes were still puffy from crying, and honestly, I wanted to hide under my covers forever. But that sweet voice of his always melted my resolve. I wiped my face quickly and opened the door.
The moment I did, I saw him standing there.
Andre.
I slammed the door shut so hard the whole frame shook. Heat flooded my body, not from nerves but from pure rage.
"Gavin!" I shouted through the door. "What were you thinking?"
His small voice came through like a kicked puppy. "Mommy, Daddy and me just wanted to see you."
"You can't ambush me like this, Gavin! That's not how we do things!"
"But you're crying," he said softly. "Daddy brought your favorite flowers and that chocolate you always hide in your purse."
I stayed silent, my back pressed against the door.
"Please open it," he pleaded. "Just take the presents. You don't have to say anything to him."
