Andre's POV
Meryl's warm body pressed against mine, her smooth leg intertwined with my rougher one, her face nestled against my chest where it seemed to fit perfectly. The way she breathed against my skin, the way our heartbeats gradually found the same rhythm - it felt like coming home after years of wandering in the wilderness.
But even in this moment of perfect contentment, my mind wouldn't quiet. Too many questions demanded answers, and I couldn't ignore them any longer.
I started with the simplest one, my fingers trailing through her silky hair.
"What exactly are we doing here, Meryl?" My voice came out rougher than intended.
She shifted slightly, tilting her chin up to meet my gaze. "What do you mean?"
"I mean us. This." I gestured between our tangled bodies. "Are we together now? Or are we still playing this complicated dance we've been doing for weeks?"
