Chapter 6 - Chapter 06 :The Divine Bow

Gurukul:

The morning sun had barely risen when Aakash, his mind still clouded by the previous night's terror, sought an audience with Guru Vishrayan. After completing his ablutions, he went straight to the Guru's chamber.

"Pranam, Gurudev," Aakash began, his voice low and urgent. "I must speak with you about something of grave importance."

"May you be blessed, my son," the Guru replied in his characteristically calm tone. "Speak freely. What troubles you?"

"Gurudev, last night in the grove, I encountered a black shadow. It felt... malevolent, as if it was watching me, stalking me. And it was no mere illusion—I felt its presence even in my meditation. When I struck out at it, it vanished like smoke, but the feeling of dread remains."

Guru Vishrayan pondered this for a moment, his wise eyes seeing beyond the physical realm. "Hmm… This is likely no ordinary occurrence. But remain calm, my child. I will erect a protective shield around the Gurukul. Until then, you must rest and regain your strength."

"As you command, Gurudev," Aakash replied with a humble bow. "Pranam."

Once Aakash had departed, the Guru's serene expression deepened into one of concern. He closed his eyes, sensing the subtle energies of the world, and a grim understanding dawned upon him. He immediately summoned a disciple. "Bring Agnivrat and Neeravrah to me. At once."

---

A short while later, in the seclusion of the Guru's private chambers, the two disciples stood before him.

"Pranam, Gurudev," they said in unison.

"May you both be blessed," the Guru responded. "I have called you here privately because what I am about to reveal is a matter of utmost secrecy and importance."

Neer's curiosity was piqued. "Please command us, Gurudev. We are always ready."

"Dark tantric forces are at work near the boundaries of our Gurukul," Guru Vishrayan revealed. "A powerful entity is channeling an unknown and malevolent energy. It can only be countered by one artifact—the 'Divine Bow,' kept within the ancient temple atop the Vindhya mountains."

Agni's demeanor became instantly serious. "Our mission is to retrieve this bow, Gurudev?"

"Yes, my sons. This journey will be perilous. The Vindhya forests are teeming with demons, and the temple itself is guarded by the Gandharvas. Only through courage, restraint, and unwavering faith will you succeed."

Neer offered a confident, if slightly reckless, smile. "Then what are we waiting for, Gurudev? Bless us, and we shall not fail."

Guru Vishrayan raised his hand in a benediction. "May you be victorious. May the gods guide your path. And remember—this is not merely a journey. It is a test of your very karma."

"Pranam, Gurudev. We depart immediately," they chorused, turning to embark on their quest.

---

Aakash, however, was not entirely satisfied. He approached the Guru once more, a frown marring his features. "Gurudev, with all due respect, you could have retrieved the bow yourself… or you could have sent me as well. Why only Agni and Neer?"

Guru Vishrayan offered a patient, knowing smile. "My son, those two are not just disciples… they are pivotal to a larger destiny. Their karmic paths are intertwined. Their unity is essential for the trials to come. A time will arrive when you, too, must shoulder a great responsibility, Aakash… but that time is not now."

Understanding, and humbled, Aakash bowed his head. "As you command, Gurudev. Pranam."

And so, Agnivrat and Neeravrah set out, their journey taking them toward the formidable and mysterious Vindhya mountain range.

---

(Location: Foothills of the Trikuta Mountain)

The first leg of their arduous journey brought them to the foothills of the Trikuta Mountain. The air was thick and still, laden with a sense of foreboding.

"Be careful, Agni," Neer cautioned, his eyes scanning the treacherous path ahead. "Gurudev said demons reside here."

Agnivrat responded with his typical economy of words, his expression stoic. "Yes." A single nod was all he offered.

They began their ascent, navigating a difficult and slippery mountainside littered with jagged rocks and hidden pits. Suddenly, Neer's foot slipped on a loose stone, sending him stumbling towards a steep drop.

In a flash, Agni's hand shot out, gripping Neer's wrist firmly and pulling him back to safety. "Be careful, Neer!" The urgency in his voice was a rare break in his composed facade.

Neer caught his breath, his heart hammering against his ribs. "Thank you, Agni…" Agni merely nodded again, but the swiftness of his action spoke louder than any words of care ever could.

After what felt like hours of grueling climbing, they finally reached the mountain peak.

"We've made it," Neer said, a triumphant smile gracing his lips. "Now, let's see what challenge awaits us. I wonder which demon blocks our path now."

They had taken only a few steps forward when an unnatural, white mist began to swirl around them, thick and disorienting, separating them from each other.

"Agni! Where are you?" Neer shouted into the blinding haze. "What is this smoke? I can't see a thing! Don't just stand there silently—say something!"

"I'm here," Agni's concentrated voice cut through the fog. "Maintain your focus. This smoke is not natural."

Suddenly, a terrifying laugh echoed around them, causing the very air to vibrate. The mist cleared as abruptly as it had appeared, revealing a monstrous figure—Bhramtisur, the Demon of Illusion. With three snarling heads, burning red eyes, a sword in one hand and a whip in the other, he was a vision of nightmare.

"Who are you!" Neer roared, stepping forward. "Why do you block our path? If you value your existence, move aside!"

"You will grant me life? A jest!" Bhramtisur's three heads laughed in unison. "Mortal, do you not fear me?"

"I am a Kshatriya. I have slain countless of your kind. You are merely the next," Neer retorted, his hand tightening on the hilt of his sword.

Agni's voice was a low, warning growl. "Our Guru foretold of demons on this path. You are one of them. Stand aside, or prepare to be destroyed."

"Then come!" the demon taunted. "Fight me!"

But as the two friends charged forward, a powerful illusion took hold of their minds. They now saw each other as the three-headed demon and began to fight one another with desperate fury.

"Fight! Destroy each other!" Bhramtisur cackled, reveling in his trickery. "This is the power of my illusion!"

The battle between them raged for what felt like an eternity. In the midst of the clash, Neer's eyes caught a faint glimmer—a glowing gem on the demon's forehead that hadn't been there before.

An illusion! The realization struck him like lightning. He closed his eyes, focusing on the image of Gurudev and his teachings. His sword transformed into a whip-like stream of water, and he struck not at Agni, but at the true source of the magic. The illusion around him shattered.

"Agni! Wake up!" Neer shouted, his voice cutting through the chaos. "It's me, Neer! The one you're fighting is not me! Look at me!"

Bhramtisur snarled, impressed and annoyed. "You are the first mortal to break my illusion… but your friend still fights a phantom. He will not stop until he has slain you!"

"He is my friend! He would never truly harm me," Neer declared with unshakable faith.

"Then witness him trying!" the demon screamed.

Neer had no choice. He summoned a concentrated jet of water and directed it at Agnivrat. The cool, purifying element broke the demon's hold, and Agni blinked, his eyes clearing as he recognized his friend.

Now united, they turned to face Bhramtisur together. As they closed in, Agni lunged, but the demon, with his three heads granting him unparalleled awareness, ensnared Neer with his whip and struck at Agni. Agni dodged, but the demon cast his illusion once more, and Agni again saw Neer's form twisting into that of the monster.

Taking on Neer's visage, Bhramtisur taunted, "Agni, you are attacking me… your own friend…"

Hesitation cost Agni dearly. He lowered his sword for a fraction of a second, and the demon landed a sharp, painful blow. Gritting his teeth against the pain, Agni fought not just the demon, but the deception clouding his mind. He reached deep within, awakening the pure, righteous fire of his soul.

"Neer…" he whispered, a plea and a promise. "Come to me…"

The demon, still wearing Neer's face, approached confidently. In that moment, Agni unleashed his fire element in a controlled but devastating burst, engulfing the false Neer in purifying flames. A piercing scream filled the air as Bhramtisur's real form was revealed, consumed by the holy fire until nothing but ashes remained.

The illusion shattered completely. Neer, freed from the magical whip, rushed to Agni's side.

"Agni! Are you okay?" he cried out, his eyes wide with worry. "I was shouting for so long—that wasn't me! But you… you wouldn't listen! Look at you… you're badly hurt." His voice broke as he saw the blood flowing from Agni's wound.

Agni gripped Neer's arm, a gesture meant to calm and reassure. Neer's anger melted into guilt.

"Forgive me," he said softly. "Perhaps I said too much before." He took a steadying breath. "Come on, let's get to the forest. We'll find medicinal herbs there. We have to treat this."

As Agni tried to stand, his legs buckled beneath him.

Neer let out a sigh of affectionate exasperation. "See? Now, no arguments. Get on my back. I'm carrying you." Without waiting for a reply, he hauled Agni onto his back and began the careful descent toward the forest below.

Once there, Neer found the necessary herbs, applied them to Agni's wound with practiced care, and helped him rest in the shade of a large, ancient tree. The first great trial was over, but their journey was far from complete.
