Chapter 7 - 04.

Mari.

POV: First Person & Third Person Limited

Man, I wasn't trying to go to this party. I told Jayce to just let me stay at home. Ke'Mari trails along behind Jayce, listening to him go on and on about the 'fine girls' standing around. He respects Jayce for not calling girls bitches unlike the other guys at this party. "Yo Jayce, where the weed at man?" I say, slightly nudging him with my elbow.

"Oh It's in the middle. Aye, roll me a blunt twin!" Jayce says, dapping me up before walking off. I put one of my Airpods in my ear and I casually walk to the middle of the four way split. While walking, my eyes scan the area and they land on Kendall and her friend smoking a few feet away. "Shit." I mumble, turning the other way. Nigga, what the hell? I mentally slap myself for acting scared.

I sigh to myself and I pull my hood over my head, walking right past them. Just talk to them later. Not now, not like this. I grab two pre rolled blunts from the table and I spark one myself, making sure to not get any ashes on my outfit. I make my way back to Jayce, the song Final Warning by NLE Choppa bumping in my Airpod.

"Yo Jayce, I gotta go talk to somebody real quick." I say, giving him his blunt. "Aight, catch up with me when you done, lil bro." He says, patting me on my shoulder. I begin to head back to where I saw Kendall and her friend. I clear my throat, stopping right in front of them before I realized it. Be cool. "Yo, what's up." I say casually, my gaze lingering on Kendall.

Kendall's friend glances at her with a knowing look. "What's up? You Ke'Mari, ain't you? I'm Aaliyah." Aaliyah says, introducing herself with a nod. "Yeah, that's me." I respond. "I'm guessing you know Kendall already?" She says, slightly nudging Kendall in her side. Kendall stares at me with a shy smile, despite the fact that she's high. "Yeah, we've met already." Kendall says.

I shift my weight a bit, wracking my brain on what to say. "My bad, only reason I came over here cause I recognized ya'll." I say, shoving my hands in my pockets. "Nah you good, I was just about to go find some food. Kendall, you good to stay here?" Aaliyah says, smiling at her before leaving anyway. Well damn. Now it's just me and Kendall. My gaze slowly goes back to Kendall and I offer her a friendly smile. "Come chill with me." I say quietly, nodding my head as I gesture her to follow me. Kendall laughs in the smallest bit at Aaliyah's sudden disappearance and walks alongside Ke'Mari.

Ke'Mari immediately picks up on how quiet Kendall seems to be. Maybe It's just the weed, but she wasn't this quiet when they first had a conversation with each other. He spares a glance towards Kendall while he leads her to a more secluded area. Her eyes are drawn to the ground as if she refuses to make eye contact with anyone. Eventually, Ke'Mari and Kendall reach some abandoned tires and decide to sit there.

Kendall sits across from Ke'Mari but she stays quiet. Ke'Mari stares at her, quietly assessing her. "What's causing you to be so quiet with me this time?" I ask, tilting my head a bit as I try to read her. "Nothing, just feeling awkward. I don't do parties often. I usually just chill with Aaliyah." She explains. I hum in response. "I see you smoke though. You wanna share this blunt with me and get to know each other a bit more?" I say confidently, my eyes never leaving hers.

She does look good when she's high, I must say. Kendall nods in response with another one of her shy smiles. She sits on the old tire beside me and I pass her my blunt. "So, you always shy like this?" I ask, keeping my tone light so I don't offend her. I watch her hit my blunt with ease, the smoke slowly leaving her lips. "Yeah, I have been for a long time." She replies, passing my blunt back. I hum lowly again, hitting the blunt before asking another question.

"What do you want me to know about you?" I say simply, french inhaling my smoke after. I tilt my head a bit, watching her think. While she's distracted, my eyes flicker over her figure. She's chubby, but all in the right ways. Not fat, but curvy. "Well, I'm introverted and I'm into sociology and psychology. I also have a cat named Sadie." She says, looking back into my eyes.

I raise my brow, hearing her mention that she has a cat. "A cat? I have one too. His name is Apollo." I say, passing her my blunt again. "Well, while you hitting that, I'm into music. I make beats, got a wide music taste, also introverted, stuff like that." I say simply, sighing as I feel the effects of the weed kicking in. My eyes trail to hers and I notice her looking at me even while hitting the blunt. We both stare at each other for a bit. Man, she got some pretty ass eyes.

For once, I feel comfortable with just staring at her. It feels nice. "You wanna be friends? I've only made one so far since I've been here." I say suddenly, barely realizing what I said. Dude..that was cringey. Sort of. "Yeah, we can be friends. You can have my number too." Kendall says, her voice soft and alluring. I quickly pull my phone out of my pocket and I pull up my text messages. I give her my phone, my eyes still shamelessly glued to hers.

She's so quiet. I have to stop breathing sometimes to make sure I can hear her. I like that. I like quiet. She gently gives my phone back right as Jayce texts me to head to his car because he's 'too crossfaded to drive back home.' I groan internally, not wanting my time with Kendall to be cut short. "Yo, I gotta dip. My homeboy needs to go home." I say reluctantly.

I notice her reddened and hooded eyes become slightly sad, as if she doesn't want me to go either. "Okay, I'll text you later." She says, smiling at me. I feel my heart jump a bit at her pretty smile. "See you around." I say quietly, my eyes lingering on her before waking off. She's so pretty. Man, I wish Jayce wasn't high off his ass right now. I wouldn't mind talking to her all night. Ke'Mari heads towards Jayce's car.

He plays a specific song in his airpods while he walks: Angel by Kid Cudi. Kendall's eyes remain fresh on his mind and that's all he thinks about as he drives home with Jayce. She's an angel to him.
