Chapter 313 - Chapter 313: A Complete Misunderstanding

Black Zetsu clearly remembered that this magic had been created by his Father Lord, Kyle.

The origin of this Lumos Charm variant could be traced back to several full moons during the previous school year.

At the time, Snape was busy with goodness-knows-what, so Dumbledore dumped the task of brewing Wolfsbane Potion for Lupin onto Kyle.

While delivering the potion to Lupin, Kyle had casually struck up a conversation with him.

According to Kyle's logic, if Marvel's Bruce Banner could stay in a gamma lab for eighteen months and merge with the Hulk, why couldn't Lupin find a way to completely control his own lycanthropic transformation?

When Banner transformed into the Hulk, all his attributes were boosted.

When Lupin transformed into a werewolf, he would also gain corresponding attribute boosts; though not as ridiculously overpowered as Banner's Hulk transformation in Marvel, it was still an excellent method for boosting combat power in a short period.

Kyle and Lupin hit it off almost immediately, even though their ultimate goals differed—Lupin's goal was to prevent lycanthropy from affecting his daily life, whereas Kyle wanted to use controllable lycanthropy as a means to boost combat capability.

If controllable lycanthropy could be mastered, Kyle could promote this combat-enhancing method to his subordinates.

The "subordinates" here didn't refer to the Acolytes under Grindelwald, but rather that bunch of riffraff down in Albania.

That gang of Dark wizards was truly useless mud that couldn't stick to a wall.

Kyle could have wiped out the Albanian Ministry of Magic by the roots long ago, but he chose not to act and instead preserved them, solely to allow his riffraff of subordinates to grow through actual combat.

In the end, those guys...

Forget it, best not to mention it.

Kyle no longer expected them to hone their skills in battles against the Albanian Ministry of Magic, so relying on some unorthodox methods to boost their combat power was the way to go.

Kyle didn't expect controllable lycanthropy to boost their strength by much, but every little bit counted.

However, achieving controllable lycanthropy was far from simple.

Werewolves were divided into two categories.

One was pureblood werewolves; pureblood werewolves were entirely capable of controlling their minds after transforming, requiring no effort from Kyle to research.

The other type was like Lupin—born a normal human and transformed into a half-werewolf after being bitten by a werewolf later in life.

How to enable a werewolf like Lupin to achieve a controllable transformation had always been a major puzzle in the magical world.

After researching for so many years, the magical world had only come up with the Wolfsbane Potion, allowing those turned later in life to retain a certain degree of sanity after transforming on full-moon nights.

Countless Potions masters had failed to find a solution, so Kyle, who could barely be counted as a half-master, certainly didn't expect to solve it either.

In the end, Kyle had no choice but to give up.

Yet Kyle hadn't come away entirely empty-handed from his research.

He had tinkered out a very interesting spell: combining the Lumos Charm with the Weather-Modifying Charm to simulate the light of a full moon, thereby enabling Lupin to use this magic to transform into a werewolf anytime, anywhere.

As long as one chugged a bottle of Wolfsbane Potion before casting the spell, it barely counted as controllable lycanthropy.

The physical stats that surged after transforming into a werewolf might even save Lupin's little life at a critical moment.

For example, right now.

Thus, Lupin hadn't refused Kyle's goodwill; he had silently mastered the spell and even carried around a large stash of Wolfsbane Potions brewed for him by Kyle.

Although Lupin looked vastly different after transforming into a werewolf, Black Zetsu still recognized the guy as Kyle's Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Remus Lupin.

Originally, Deva Path was already channeling the Fiendfyre Curse, preparing to send the man on his way with a shot of Grindelwald's gas stove.

But now, Black Zetsu quietly manipulated Deva Path to extinguish the gas stove in his hand.

The six-barrel Avada Kedavra Gatling on the Asura Path's shoulder also slowly ceased its rotation.

The Animal Path stopped the Summoning Technique that was about to call forth a large swarm of XXXX-class magical creatures.

This guy was a cop from the Order of the Phoenix; he couldn't be killed.

Yet he couldn't simply tell him everything either.

The fact that the mastermind behind Amagakure was Kyle could not be exposed to Lupin; exposing it to Lupin meant exposing it to Dumbledore as well.

If Dumbledore found out that his good son was plotting to conquer a country's magical world, he would absolutely hang Kyle up and beat him senseless.

The only option left was to put on a show with Lupin and drive the guy away.

Extinguishing the gas stove, Deva Path shifted to using conventional magic to carpet-bomb the transformed werewolf Lupin. The power of these spells was only enough to injure Lupin without endangering his life.

The other Five Paths executed the exact same operation.

Even after drinking the Wolfsbane Potion, Lupin's consciousness was still somewhat hazy, and he failed to notice anything unusual in how Pain's Six Paths were acting.

After flipping the Human Path with a swipe of his claw, Lupin broke through the encirclement of Pain's Six Paths and fled frantically into the distance in total disarray.

Watching the werewolf disappear into the distance, Black Zetsu let out a quiet sigh of relief.

He had finally sent away this unkillable jinx.

Dispatching Deva Path to secretly escort Lupin out until he confirmed Lupin had regained his senses and possessed self-defense capabilities, Black Zetsu finally recalled his mind from Deva Path.

Silently transmitting his thoughts into the ring, Black Zetsu projected his mind to Kyle's side far away at New Nurmengard Castle using the resonance between the rings.

After listening to Black Zetsu's report, an equally dumbfounded Kyle let out a quiet sigh of relief.

His Albus Dad really was a handful.

You're the Headmaster of a British wizarding school—why are you sticking your nose in so deep and sending Lupin all the way to Albania to join the mess?

Do you think you're the President of the United Nations...?

Apologies, Dumbledore, as the Supreme Mugwump of the International Confederation of Wizards, really was status-equivalent to the President of the United Nations in the Muggle world.

Still, that was no excuse to send Lupin to meddle over there. The Albanian Ministry of Magic hadn't even requested aid from the International Confederation of Wizards, yet he had eagerly rushed over on his own.

Had Lupin not ultimately cast that full-moon simulation spell to transform into a werewolf and exposed his true identity, he would have been dumped into the sea by Pain's Six Paths by now.

At that point, Professor Lupin would truly have become Remus Jiraiya Lupin.

What's even more crucial is that if Lupin had died by friendly fire, Dumbledore wouldn't even have a target to seek revenge on, making Lupin's death beyond tragic.

Wiping a bead of sweat from his forehead, Kyle wondered if he should find a time to tell his villainous, evil father about the situation in Albania.

He could let Grindelwald take the fall for him, and then subtly leak information about Albania to Dumbledore so Dumbledore would stop sending people over there to find trouble.
