Chapter 2 - The Devil's Confession

Dante Moretti walked closer to her.

Each step he took made the air heavier, thicker, and charged with an invisible electricity that made Hikky's stomach twist with fear.

She didn't know what he was about to do.

Her mind raced through a dozen possibilities, each one darker than the last.

Maybe he would grab her by the neck.

Maybe he would throw her to the ground or maybe this would be the day her service to the Morettis ended in punishment.

She had imagined many cruel things that could come from defying the rules.

But none of them prepared her for what actually happened.

Instead of pain, there was silence.

And then, his breath....

Warm, controlled and Close enough that she could feel the heat radiating off his body.

Her lashes fluttered shut instinctively.

ced herself for the sting of a slap.

But what she got instead… was a kiss.

Soft at first. Then rough, possessive and dangerous.

Her world tilted. Was she dreaming?...

Her boss, her master, had just kissed her.

The sound of the shower still ran between them, water cascading down their bodies like liquid fire.

Then Dante reached past her and turned it off with one swift motion.

The silence that followed was deafening.

He tilted her chin upward, his fingers firm but strangely gentle on her neck.

"Isn't this what you wanted?" he asked, his voice a low, seductive growl that made her knees weaken.

Her lips trembled. "Y-yes... Sorry, I mean no.. My intentions were pure. It's just, you came back earlier than I expected, the shower in my bathroom stopped working. I didn't mean to.... Please..."

But his gaze was unreadable, deep and merciless.

"You have eyes for me, Hikky," he said, stepping closer until the space between them vanished completely. "I feel your heartbeat, even when I'm miles away."

Her pulse raced, her breath catching when his hands found her thighs and lifted her effortlessly.

Her body clung to his without thought, heat spiraling through every nerve.

"This is what you want," he murmured, his lips ghosting near her ear. "You have always moaned my name when you thought I couldn't hear. I caught you... not once, not twice."

Her heart pounded with panic and shame. "I.... I don't want to go to Lady B," she whispered in a trembling voice.

"Lady B". The one every servant feared.

The one who turned punishment into art.

Tears welled in Hikky's eyes as she stammered, "I swear, my intentions were pure. I just… I just get distracted. I'm trying to control the feelings, please."

For a moment, silence stretched between them, so sharp, it could have cut air.

Then Dante did something that shattered her completely.

"Marry me," he said.

Hikky's breath hitched. She stared at him, certain she had misheard.

"What…?"

"Marry me, Hikky," Dante repeated, his tone even, his expression unreadable. "Ever since I bought you from your father, I have fallen deeply in love with you. It may seem as if you were sold to me, but my dream and a priceless gem was what came into my life. I have waited for the right time to confess it. And it's now. Marry me, please."

Her world spun.

Was she dreaming? Was this real?

She couldn't move, couldn't even think.

The words echoed in her head like bells ringing inside her ribs.

The same man she had feared for years. The same man who commanded armies... Was asking her to marry him.

Her heart screamed yes, but her lips refused to move.

He studied her face, then smiled faintly.. something rare, something human. "Think about it," he murmured, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead.

Then he gently lowered her legs, turned, and walked away from the bathroom, leaving her standing beneath the dim golden light, half naked, trembling, and drowning in confusion.

Hikky quickly grabbed her towel, tying it properly around her body.

Her hands shook as she left his chamber in silence.

That night, she couldn't sleep.

Everything felt like a dream. unreal, almost cruel.

The taste of his lips still burned on hers, and his words echoed through her chest like a dangerous melody.

But then the truth crept in her mind, slow and cold.

"Don't be too excited, she told herself, staring at the ceiling. Dante Moretti is not a sweet man. He's your boss, the most feared Mafia lord in the country. And he already has a girlfriend… Clara Bryan.

Clara Bryan is the daughter of a powerful politician, known for her sharp tongue and possessive temper. A woman who guarded her man like a lioness defending her cub".

Hikky sighed, pressing a hand against her chest. "Maybe," she whispered, "he was just high on the nakedness he saw. Maybe tomorrow morning, he will forget he ever said those words."

Bitter honesty was better than sweet lies.

She forced herself to believe that until sleep finally claimed her.

By morning, she was up before sunrise.

Her mind still heavy, her heart still confused.

She headed straight to Dante's chambers, trying to focus only on her duties.

She prepared his breakfast with trembling precision. Toasted bread, pancakes, scrambled eggs, and black coffee strong enough to match his moods.

When she entered the dining hall, he was already seated, poised, serious, and unreadable.

The morning light made his features sharper, and more dangerous.

Hikky's pulse jumped.

She set the tray before him carefully.

But her hand slipped slightly, and the water glass tilted, spilling across the tray.

"I'm sorry, sir...." she gasped.

"Be careful next time," he said flatly.

The weight of his voice sent shivers down her spine.

It wasn't loud, but it was powerful enough to silence every thought in her head.

"Yes, sir," she whispered, bowing slightly.

"See?".... her mind mocked.

"He didn't mean anything. He was just high on what he saw. You are nothing to him, Hikky.... Just a maid".

She wiped the table clean, adjusted her apron, and tied the loose ribbon at the back.

She was just about to turn and leave when his voice stopped her again.

It was deep, Calm, but heavy with meaning.

"How about my request, Hikky…"

Her hand froze on the doorknob.

"I know I will propose to you properly soon…" His tone softened enough to twist her heartbeat into knots.

"Are you done thinking about it…"Dante Moretti walked closer to her.

Each step he took made the air heavier, thicker, and charged with an invisible electricity that made Hikky's stomach twist with fear.

Hikky stared and saw a paper Dante pinned above the door. It reads:

"Dante, your curse shall be transferred back to you until you meet the woman carrying it. For now, and remember black is the colour..."

She was startled.... Dante is cursed too? She had been carrying his curse?

He knows about the black wedding gown... Why didn't I notice this paper all this while? she said in her mind.

Dante asked, "Did you hear what I said?"

Then he noticed she was lost in thought, staring at something. He quickly stood up and tore the paper away....
