Chapter 1 - New Beginning

I lazily threw my sweatshirts into my suitcase, Maya barely did anything to help, we kept on arguing about who was going to miss who much.

"I will definitely not forget about you, M" I pulled her into a hug and she acted grossed out, Maya isn't the type to show her emotions and one thing I am accurate about is she despise 'goodbyes'.

"You better not because if you eventually forget about me I'll post our chats on Tiktok and let the whole world know the kind of Psycho you are" she attempted to threaten me but I only laughed because I know if our chats are exposed we will be arrested by the FBI and also be disowned.

"Sure, I promise to call you every single day" I held my chest in an attempt to feign a pledge which got a pout from my best friend in whole wide world.

"Pinky promise?" She held up her pinky finger waiting for me to entwine mine, which I did without any hesitation.

"Also don't forget to fill me in on the cute guys" Maya said, winking at me which made me to gag while also laughing. It's not like any guy will notice me.

"Girl, I am pretty sure no guy will ever notice me. Even if anyone does I am not interested, remember I have to focus so I could get into 'The Regalia College'" I reminded a bored looking Maya who looks like she is about to fix a puzzle.

"Hey, don't say that! You will be 18 in a month and fairy-boobs mother already visited you. Also you got rid of those hideous braces and glasses so any guy who doesn't notice you needs to get his sight checked" Maya rants made me feel better even if I don't want a boyfriend yet.

"Thanks M—wait a minute! What the hell do you mean by fairy-boobs mother?" I asked which made her laugh while rolling on my bed. OMG I can't believe she would say that, is it even a word?

"Hey! Don't get distracted you need to get the last of your stuffs" she finally stopped laughing and wore a serious expression.

"I won't have gotten distracted but you keep on distracting me by speaking nonsense which aren't in the dictionary" I defended myself which earned a weird look from Maya who looks like she is holding back her laughter.

"I only tried to let you know that you finally got to a level called 'puberty' and I still get blamed" Maya huffed while placing her hands on her hips.

I decided to ignore her as I threw the last of my clothes into the suitcase. Maya had always been beautiful but I won't say the same for me. She has long brown hair which are always straight, her face is perfect and her skin is always glowing. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror and think about who will ever love me.

"You are thinking again" she said in a song-like tone while holding my shoulders. "I shouldn't use my brain and become like you? No thanks" I teased which earned a cute pout.

"Ouch—you always find a way to hurt my feelings" Maya held her chest, feigning hurt. I lightly nudged her with my elbow before dropping the last of my clothes into the suitcase.

I zipped it shut and pulled her into a hug. "I love you so much Maya, you mean everything to me and I don't know what I'll do without you. I know you hate goodbyes but I promise to video call you everyday, I will never forget you because if I do you might actually tell everyone how pathetic I am" I was already sobbing by the time I was done, so was Maya.

"I love you more. And you aren't pathetic Abby, you are the best person I have ever met and trust me I have met a lot of shitty people. You have a heart of gold which no dirt can ever tint and you mean the world to me so don't you dare belittle yourself, you are a superstar!" Maya said while hugging me tighter.

"Too tight" I grasped at her strength, well I shouldn't be surprised she did go to the gym every Saturday.

"Sorry" she muttered releasing me from her tight hold which earned a toothy grin from me, Maya is sad and I know it. I am a very missable person afterall.

"What is that look?" She asked suspiciously but before I could reply my Mom came into my room, she looks nervous.

"Abby it's time, and Maya, I am going to miss you" Mom said stretching out her arms for a hug, Maya ran straight into her arms and I followed suit.

"I'm going to miss you, Becca" Maya said, she called my Mom by her name like requested. Mom broke the hug and gave me the order, 'bring your suitcase to the car' I obeyed because I have always obeyed since I was little.

Maya helped me as I took my suitcase outside and into the trunk of my Mom's BMW, her fiancé got it for her since of course he has enough money to buy whatever he wants.

After saying goodbye once more to Maya, Mom drove off, heading to the airport with the promise that everything is going to be perfect, but I still don't think everything could ever be perfect.

Soon we arrived at the airport and Mom took care of the tickets and every other thing. As we got into the plane I noticed we sat in the 'first-class' section, I have never been in first-class.

Anytime I and Mom are traveling it's always economy we use, we just upgraded and I don't think life will ever be the same again.

I closed my eyes relishing the feeling of a fresh start, things might not go smoothly but at least it's going to be better.

Soon we finally landed, once we got our luggages and left the airport the fresh air of New York welcomed us. I expected to enter a cab but a black Bentley stopped right in front of us and a young man came out.

"Mrs Moriarty, Ms Moriarty please follow me" the man muttered and opened the passenger seat for I and Mom.

What the hell does he mean by Ms Moriarty? Mom and Marco aren't even married yet. And I am not changing my surname just because…

Mom was blushing and my eyes were one second away from jumping out! WTF! She tugged my sleeves indicating I enter the car which I did.

Once Mom got settled next to me I just had to ask her once more. "What does Marco do for a living Mom?" I have asked this same question but her answer feels wrong each time.

"He owns a shipping company, Abby. And I have told you this a million times why do you keep asking?" Mom answered a little annoyed.

"Sorry, it's just that I have this bad feeling and you know I am always right" I whispered when I saw the man from earlier enter the driver seat.

"You are being paranoid" she scolded me which got me to shut up. Maybe I am being paranoid, it's not like my stepdad is in the Mafia, that only happens in books.

But what if he is? What if he lost his wife because of the Mafia? Shit! I need to tone down my reading time.
