Appearance
Cael has the appearance of a young man who looks considerably more relaxed than someone carrying around several hundred million Berries' worth of potential material.
He has messy golden-blond hair, with longer strands falling around his face and neck. His eyes are a striking pinkish-violet, giving him an unusual contrast against his golden hair.
He frequently wears rose-tinted sunglasses, usually resting them on his forehead rather than properly wearing them.
His normal outfit consists of:

Cael is laid-back, confident and observant.
He's not as aggressively energetic as Luffy, nor as stoic as Zoro. He tends to sit somewhere in the middle.

He considers gold a material, not a measure of someone's worth.
Someone could possess an entire mountain of gold and still be a worthless person.
Meanwhile, someone with nothing could be worth more than the entire mountain.

The Kinka Kinka no Mi gives Cael the ability to manipulate gold.
His power has three primary applications:

Cael can summon gold from his body.
This is the ability that makes his Devil Fruit particularly dangerous.
He can produce gold from his hands, arms and surrounding area.

Golden veins spread across the floor before a massive golden pillar erupts upward.
However, there's a catch.
He cannot create infinite gold.
The larger the quantity he produces, the greater the physical exhaustion.

This is Cael's most unusual ability.
He can alter the physical composition and properties of gold to a limited extent.

Cael cannot simply make gold harder than everything in existence.
The more extreme the modification, the more concentration it requires.
If his concentration breaks, the gold returns toward its normal physical properties.
This makes his combat style extremely technical.
He's essentially fighting with a portable metal workshop.

Cael doesn't primarily fight by throwing gold at people.
Instead, he constantly changes the battlefield.

Nami nearly has a heart attack when she discovers how much gold was used.

Zoro doesn't care about the gold.
But he respects Cael's ability to make weapons.
Cael occasionally creates temporary golden weapons for him.
Zoro:
"Too heavy."
Cael:
"That's literally the point."
Zoro:
"Then make it lighter."
Cael:
"You're asking me to violate the laws of metallurgy."
Zoro:

Nami
Their relationship is hilarious.
Nami sees Cael as a walking treasure chest.
Cael sees Nami as someone who would sell the Sunny if she discovered the price was high enough.
They frequently argue over money.
But Cael eventually becomes one of the few people Nami trusts with the crew's finances.
Because despite his love of luxury, he doesn't steal from his own crew.
Usopp
Usopp immediately becomes fascinated by him.
He starts asking Cael to create weapons.

Why He Joins the Straw Hats
Cael originally isn't interested in becoming a pirate.
He is a goldsmith and metal craftsman traveling between islands.
He was born on an island famous for its gold mines.
Unfortunately, the island's ruler became obsessed with extracting every ounce of gold from the land.
Eventually, the population was effectively treated as disposable labor.
Cael's family owned a small workshop.
His father taught him:
"Gold isn't valuable because it's gold. It's valuable because of what people choose to make with it."
When the ruler discovered Cael possessed the Kinka Kinka no Mi, he attempted to force him into becoming a weapon.
Cael refused.
He escaped.
Years later, the Straw Hats arrive.
Luffy naturally gets involved.
Not because he particularly cares about the gold.
He just sees people being oppressed.
The resulting battle destroys the ruler's operation.
Cael watches the Straw Hats leave.
Luffy turns around.
"Hey, Cael!"
"What?"
"You're coming with us."
Cael blinks.
"...Why?"
Luffy shrugs.
"You're fun."
Cael:
"...That's your reason?"
"Yep."
Cael looks at the ruined gold mine.
Then at the sea.
He smiles.
"Fine."
He jumps onto the Going Merry.
His First Day as a Straw Hat
Nami immediately gives him a job.
"Since you can create gold, you're responsible for making sure we don't run out of emergency funds."
Cael:
"That's not how economics works."

Then Luffy asks:
"Can you make gold meat?"
Cael stares at him.
"...No."
Luffy looks devastated.

Nami sees gold as money. Franky sees metal as technology. Usopp sees it as ammunition. Luffy sees it as something cool. Caelum sees it as something that can become anything.
And eventually, he learns the Straw Hat Pirates are probably the first people he's met who don't care how much gold he can produce.
They just care that he's their crewmate.
