Chapter 47 - Lexon and Shinobu Kocho

'What's the use of telling me? I'm not a wishing lamp.'

Lexon wrapped up the pot, tied it to his waist again, waved his hand, and started walking. "Let's go."

"Okay," Shinobu Kocho replied, sheathed her Nichirin Sword, and followed after Lexon. "Are you going to see Kamado Tanjiro now?"

"No," Lexon refused. "I'll go tomorrow."

'I've already used up my sign-in for today. What's the point of going over there?'

'The correct answer is to wait until tomorrow when the sign-in count refreshes before going to see him.'

"Don't you just stay in your room all day? Why not go?" Shinobu asked.

"Why do you ask so many questions?" Lexon retorted.

Hearing this question, Shinobu's steps faltered. Her messy hair obscured her face, and a cool voice came from her cherry-pink lips.

"You really are an unpleasant person."

"That can't be helped," Lexon said, still walking on his own.

"Mr. Lexon..." a gloomy voice came from behind him. "Don't you know you're supposed to wait for a girl?"

Lexon didn't even turn his head. "Aren't you already keeping up on your own?"

"I think Mr. Lexon must not be popular with girls," Shinobu said, now walking shoulder to shoulder with him, her words laced with a hint of sarcasm.

'Girls?'

Lexon glanced at Shinobu's beautiful face.

'Ah... I've been deceived by her mature demeanor all this time.'

'For a moment, I didn't even think about it... this person just came of age. She's only eighteen.'

'Then isn't she still just a young girl?'

Unconsciously, his gaze shifted downward.

'Hmm, maybe not so young.'

"Mr. Lexon, are you thinking of something rude..." The gentle smile that was always on Shinobu's face suddenly revealed a dangerous undertone.

"No," Lexon said flatly, retracting his gaze.

"Mr. Lexon, I can make more than just poisons that harm demons, you know..." Shinobu said leisurely, as if hinting at something.

"I think it's better if you just stick to making poisons that harm demons," Lexon responded quickly.

"Hehe," Shinobu let out a gentle laugh, then instructed, "I'll be heading back to the Butterfly Mansion first. If you want to see Kamado Tanjiro, just come over directly and let Aoi know."

"Okay," Lexon replied.

"I will visit you again in three days. Goodbye for now, Mr. Lexon," Shinobu left these words and was about to turn and leave.

"Stop putting all sorts of strange things into your body."

Suddenly, Lexon's flat words reached Shinobu's ears, and she stopped her departing steps.

She turned around, her beautiful and calm face devoid of any emotion. "Mr. Lexon... how did you know?"

Lexon waved his hand in front of his nose and said, "The smell is too strong."

"Sniffing other people's scents and commenting on it to their face is a very perverted thing to do, you know, Mr. Lexon," Shinobu said.

"My sense of smell is too keen. I can't help it," Lexon shrugged, looking helpless.

Shinobu just stared quietly at Lexon's face for a long while before slowly opening her mouth, "I need to do this, Mr. Lexon."

"Your lifespan will be rapidly shortened because of it," Lexon reminded her.

A faint smile appeared on Shinobu's face. "I've already prepared myself for that, Mr. Lexon."

'A shortened lifespan?'

Shinobu didn't care about that.

She had already prepared herself for death long ago.

Because she knew that the powerful demon who had killed her sister liked to eat women's bodies.

And she was continuously ingesting wisteria poison so that after she was killed and eaten by that demon, all the poison would explode within its body.

To kill that demon completely.

"A suicide mission?" Lexon knew that Shinobu's plan did indeed succeed in the end, exchanging her life for the death of the Upper Rank Two, Doma.

"Yes," Shinobu nodded.

"I don't want to persuade you otherwise. Having a clear goal is a very good thing," Lexon said calmly. "I just hope that you'll think more about the people who care about you and the people you care about."

A look of surprise appeared on Shinobu's face, as if she had never expected Lexon to say such a thing.

Immediately, her surprised expression turned into one of amusement, and she said with a small smile, "Is Mr. Lexon comforting and caring for me?"

"Yes," Lexon nodded bluntly.

Shinobu hadn't expected him to be so direct. In her impression, he was supposed to be a guy who was indifferent to many things, wouldn't show obvious concern for others, and was very cold and unemotional.

But now...

She felt a little surprised.

"There's nothing to be surprised about," Lexon said. "As long as you have contact with people, feelings will arise. Whether it's Tanjiro, Master Urokodaki Sakonji, Rengoku, or you... a certain amount of emotion will be generated... So, at the very least, I don't dislike you."

Suddenly, a gust of wind rose, blowing Lexon's and Shinobu's hair up, making it dance like butterflies in the wind.

Lexon was an indifferent person. He would look at everything calmly and do what he wanted to do.

He knew that this world was just a mission world in the Main God Space, but he wouldn't deliberately avoid contact with some people because of it, nor would he refrain from saying what he wanted to say because of their possible final outcome.

Even if he knew that this world might be reset by the Main God after the mission ended, that everything would return to the beginning, that everything said and done would disappear... would be meaningless.

But Lexon wouldn't give up on doing what he wanted to do because of that.

"Well, I'm truly flattered, Mr. Lexon," Shinobu said with a small smile.

"Instead of putting all your energy into what happens after you fail, you should do everything you can to put all your energy into what happens before you fail. Just make sure you don't fail."

Lexon picked a leaf that had been blown into his hair by the wind. "What did your deceased sister hope for?"

"My sister hoped for 'humans and demons to get along peacefully.' I'm working hard on it..." Shinobu gave her answer.

"Working hard, you mean by having a 'friendly' exchange with me while filled with anger?" Lexon made air quotes with his fingers when he said the word "friendly."

"You..." Shinobu didn't know how to respond.

"That doesn't count as 'a friendly exchange with a demon.' It's just a form of self-deception," Lexon's words directly tore off the fig leaf in Shinobu's heart. "You actually know very well in your own heart what your deceased sister really hoped for... what your parents who were killed by demons hoped for... and what the people you care about and who care about you hope for..."

'They hope that I will live a good life.'

Shinobu naturally knew this would be the answer, but...

"I will think about it carefully," Shinobu's smile was as heart-warming as ever, both gentle and tender.

"And..." Just before Shinobu was about to turn and leave, Lexon seemed to remember something else and continued.

"Is there anything else, Mr. Lexon?" Shinobu said, still maintaining her smile.

Lexon was seen pulling at the corners of his own mouth, making a smiling expression. The words he spoke were a bit muffled, but Shinobu knew very well what he was saying.

"Your smile is too fake. You should work on that."

Shinobu's face stiffened.
