"Seriously, what's going on with you two? Both brothers come home injured on the same day?"
Uncle Ben asked, dabbing disinfectant across Peter's bruised back.
Peter opened his mouth to explain, but Sylas jumped in first. "There was this giant green lizard at school today. Came out of nowhere. I got hurt trying to run."
"Big green lizard?" Ben blinked, confused, glancing toward Aunt May.
May was gently wiping Sylas's shoulder wound. "What do you mean, a big lizard?"
"No idea," Sylas said smoothly. "But I'm sure the news will cover it tonight."
He wasn't lying something like that was impossible to keep quiet in New York.
"Guess I'll have to watch the evening broadcast then," Ben said with a chuckle. "Never seen a giant lizard before."
May, still worried, asked, "What about your school? Are they okay?"
"Classes are suspended for a week," Sylas replied. "They'll use the time to calm the students and fix the damage."
The battle had torn through half the classrooms. Repairs alone would take days. Even then, some rooms probably wouldn't be ready when they returned.
"That's good," Ben nodded. "Otherwise, I'd have to call in and ask for you two to rest anyway."
He finished applying the ointment and capped the bottle. "Alright, try not to move around too much."
Peter flexed experimentally then hissed. "Ah—ow, okay, that stings."
"Don't stretch it," Ben scolded with a grin. "And don't put your shirt back on yet. Let the medicine dry first."
"You too, Sylas," May said, pointing at his shoulder. "You're not invincible."
Sylas nodded sheepishly. Being a hero definitely hurts more than it looks, he thought.
If not for the Justice Points, he'd have stayed home.
Peter sank back onto the couch, groaning as Ben handed him a glass of milk.
"What do you want for lunch?"
"Anything's fine," Peter muttered, closing his eyes. "Just let me melt into this couch for a while."
Sylas rolled his shoulder carefully. "I'm gonna head upstairs and rest, Aunt May. Call me when lunch's ready."
"Alright, sweetie. Just be careful with that arm."
Sylas climbed the stairs slowly. Behind him, Peter called out, "Hey, you're not gonna watch TV?"
"Nope. I'll pass," Sylas said, waving him off. "I need to think."
---
"The Lizard's strength and agility… easily match me and Peter," Sylas muttered, flipping open a small notebook. "And his defense? Practically bulletproof."
He jotted down notes rapidly, sketching what little he remembered of the creature's physiology.
What he needed now was the Lizard's formula book the one that held the secret of his mutation.
"Wait…" Sylas froze mid-sentence.
The Lizard went into the sewers what if he went back to his lab?
"Damn it, I should've followed him!"
He slammed the notebook shut, frustrated. Even if he couldn't win, he could've at least tracked him safely through the [Shadow Dominion].
He briefly imagined dragging Peter into the chase, too, but it was far too late now.
In the original Spider-Man storyline, Peter created the cure that restored Dr. Connors to human form.
But the cure never lasted. Every time Connors lost control, he turned back into the Lizard and every time, Peter would inject him again.
A repeating cycle.
Sylas smiled faintly.
"So if I help cure him too… I earn Justice Points."
And when Connors changes again? More points.
A renewable Justice farm.
"But…" he sighed, "I'll still need Peter to make the serum. I don't know the first thing about biochemistry."
He turned his head toward the bed, where glowing eyes peeked from beneath it the [Shadow Legion].
"You guys get what I'm saying?" Sylas asked.
The shadow soldiers blinked blankly, their heads tilting in confusion.
Sylas chuckled. "Maybe I should teach you how to study, huh?"
He summoned one of his shadow ninjas, leaning back in his chair. "Tell me, ever heard of the joy of learning?"

Stark Tower
"So the masked guy just… vanished in front of you?" Tony asked, spinning lazily in his chair.
"Yes, sir," Jarvis confirmed. "No trace on any surrounding feeds."
Tony skated across the lab floor on his chair, pulling up a holographic file.
"Alright, what about the kid in the pajamas?"
"Identified," Jarvis replied. "Spider-Man. Real name: Peter Parker. Resides in Queens. Student at Midtown High School…"
Jarvis went on, listing relatives and friends Uncle Ben, Aunt May, Ned Leeds, Sylas Parker, and others.
"Justice-obsessed teenager with spider powers," Tony mused. "Cute."
He flicked Peter's file aside and brought up an image of the Lizard. "This one runs a full background check. If it lines up, send it to the kid."
Tony wasn't uninterested he just had bigger fires to put out right now.
"Yes, sir. Also, it's time for your chlorophyll supplement," Jarvis reminded.
A mechanical arm handed him a glass of thick green liquid.
Tony grimaced. "Thanks, buddy. Still hate this stuff."
The arm wiggled sarcastically before retracting.

Sewers – Dr. Connors' Lab
"I got it…" the Lizard hissed, clutching a small notebook. His long tongue flicked over his teeth. "Now I can complete the plan."
After escaping the school, Connors had crawled straight back to his underground lab only to find Norman Osborn's men waiting.
They hadn't lasted long.
With his current strength, the ambush was a joke. A few swipes, a few broken bones done.
"I'll need materials… and a dispersal device," he muttered, eyes narrowing.
His gaze fixed on one destination: Oscorp Industries.
That was where he could build his serum and the tower-mounted diffuser that would turn everyone into evolved beings like himself.
He'd originally planned to release it from Stark Tower the highest point in Manhattan.
But after tonight's battle? He wasn't stupid enough to walk back into Tony's crosshairs.
"His lasers burn," Connors hissed under his breath. "Can't fight that."
He crawled along the ceiling of the tunnel, heading toward Oscorp.

Later That Night
"Breaking news: chaos erupted earlier today at Midtown High, where witnesses reported a monstrous lizard-like creature rampaging through the halls…"
On TV, footage showed the Lizard battling Spider-Man and a mysterious dark-clad figure.
"Oh my God," Uncle Ben whispered, eyes wide. "That's insane."
He looked from the screen to the boys. "You two were there?"
May's face paled as the anchor continued.
"Officials confirm eighteen students injured, two fatalities. Police are still investigating the cause."
Both adults sat in stunned silence then relief washed over them.
They looked at Peter and Sylas, both sitting quietly on the couch.
"Thank heaven you're okay," May said softly, hugging them both.
Because if the Lizard had gone just a little further… the news would've been worse.
