Chapter 3 - Chapter 3: Renovation 2

It took a full day to unload the truckload of goods. No one came to cause trouble during that time, but it did attract quite a few onlookers.

Lin Jing didn't intend to be so kind as to tell his neighbors about the apocalypse. After all, no one would believe him now. Once the apocalypse came, they might even turn against him, blaming him for not trying harder to convince them.

Lin Jing didn't consider himself a living Buddha. When the apocalypse came, he was lucky enough to be able to take care of his own life, not the lives of others.

In his previous life, Lin Jing grew up in an orphanage. Because of his good health, he began learning combat and shooting, and later joined an international bodyguard agency. He came to this world after being shot and killed while protecting his employer. He had seen enough death to become indifferent to it.

Only after all the supplies were moved did Lin Jing return home to see that the six sides of his master bedroom had been planed. Tomorrow, he should be able to start welding the six steel plates to the building's rebar.

Lin Jing felt a little relieved as he looked at the room filled with food, daily necessities, and bottled water. Tomorrow morning, he had to go to the hospital for a full checkup. Before the apocalypse, he needed to get her body in tip-top shape. Afterward, he had to go to the pharmacy and stock up on medications—essential for apocalypse. He also needed weapons for self-defense. The book mentioned that after the apocalypse, some humans would be infected by the virus and transformed into zombies, making weapons essential.

Looking at the messy house, Lin Jing lost interest in staying there. Since he still had some money left in her card, he decided to go to a hotel. Just as he was about to leave, a man in his fifties appeared at the door.

In the original book, Lin Jing was merely cannon fodder. All descriptions of him concerned the female protagonist. As for the original author's own family situation, Lin Jing knew nothing about it. Now, looking at the man before him, Lin Jing didn't know how to address him.

The man saw Lin Jing standing at the door and said dissatisfiedly: "Why are you standing at the door? Why did you come back so early today? Have you cooked?"

As he spoke, the man walked into the house. Looking at Lin Jing's messy living room and the two rooms that were piled with things, the man almost couldn't breathe.

He pointed inside in disbelief, "This, this, this, what are you doing at home? Lin Jing, are you okay? We have lived here for five or six years, right? What's wrong with you? Why are you renovating again and making the house like this?"

He pointed at his room and study angrily, "What do you mean by this? My room is full of food. You don't want me to live with you, right? Lin Jing, you are going to kick your own father out, right? "

Lin Jing didn't expect that the original owner actually had a biological father. He frowned slightly. It would be better for him to live alone, but the original owner had relatives alive, and it would be inappropriate for him to kick them out now. After all, this is still a society ruled by law, and the human order has not collapsed. If the original owner's father didn't make trouble, Lin Jing could help him survive the doomsday, but if he made trouble, Lin Jing would not be soft-hearted.

"Don't worry, several walls in my house are cracked, and I'm just about ready to have someone come over to renovate them. Don't worry about it. I'm spending my bonus anyway. And these food and water were won in a raffle at a company event. The company had a truck deliver them directly to us. We shouldn't waste them. Don't be angry. I'll contact the seller in a few days and we'll just clear them out." Lin Jing made up a random excuse.

"Really? Oh, but how are we going to live here?" Lin Zhongsheng frowned and sighed.

"It's okay. We'll stay in a hotel for a few days and move back in once the house is renovated and less messy," Lin Jing explained patiently.

"Hotels don't cost money? You, you're so old, how can you still be frugal? Did all that money just come from the wind? How much bonus do you have left? Transfer it to me and I'll save it for you." Lin Zhongsheng continued to ramble on.

Lin Jing's face had turned cold. The original owner's father didn't seem like a pushover, nosy and nagging. If Lin Zhongsheng remained like this after the apocalypse, Lin Jing had no intention of keeping him around.

"If you want to stay at the hotel, come with me. If you don't want to, stay here by yourself. As for the bonus, forget it." Lin Jing, ignoring Lin Zhongsheng's grimace, grabbed his bag and left.

As he closed the door, he could still hear Lin Zhongsheng cursing inside. "You've raised an ungrateful child! Your mother died young, and I see you're hoping for mine too! You unfilial son, you're killing me! I'm your father, and I'm not even dead yet. This family should still listen to me!"

Lin Jing's lips curled into a sneer. While Lin Zhongsheng's words might have been helpful to the original owner, they were completely useless to her. After all, he didn't treat Lin Zhongsheng like a father.

After Lin Jing went downstairs, he went to the best hotel across the street and ordered some food. With less than five days left, the money wouldn't even cover toilet paper.

He showered comfortably in the hotel and then ate the food the hotel had sent him while browsing her phone. Lin Zhongsheng called her several times. He answered once, but an angry voice echoed through the receiver, so he simply hung up.

If he stayed quiet after the apocalypse, he wouldn't kick him out. But if he started to act up, a sneer played on his lips; he had little patience for others. After a comfortable sleep, Lin Jing woke up early in the morning for a checkup at a private hospital. He was in a hurry, so he paid for VIP service, which meant all the test results would be available that afternoon.

He had a quick lunch and spent the afternoon waiting for the results at the private hospital.

Although Lin Jing had been injured before, his natural physique had allowed him to recover quickly, resulting in excellent health in all aspects. If she had to find a flaw, it would be a wisdom tooth on his lower right side.

Lin Jing reviewed his medical results and decided it was time to remove the wisdom tooth. Whenever he got angry or anxious, it would become inflamed. Normally, this would be a minor issue, something to take a little anesthetic and drink plenty of water, but if the apocalypse truly arrived, the pain from the wisdom tooth would be a major concern. Where would he find a dentist to remove it?

So, Lin Jing had his wisdom tooth removed at this private hospital, received an anti-inflammatory IV, and took some medicine home.

Wisdom tooth stitches usually take seven to ten days to remove, but that was simple. Once they had healed, Lin Jing could remove them himself, though it would be a bit more laborious.

He simply ordered a large batch of medication from the private hospital. There were heart medications, diarrhea medications, cold and fever medications, painkillers, antibiotics, and plenty of liquid glucose, IV syringes, and disinfectants. Lin Jing bought it all and packed everything up, another five large boxes.

While the amount wasn't huge, Lin Jing still had the private hospital staff help deliver all five boxes of medical supplies to his building.

This time, the pickup truck helped pull the supplies in, making entry to the complex smooth. However, the two drivers still attracted the attention of other neighbors as they helped carry the boxes into the elevator.

"Hey, Xiaolin, you're back from shopping again! Have you struck it rich lately? A truckload yesterday, and so much more today. What did you buy?" a woman in her fifties asked curiously.

"Nothing much. There was a sale at the mall, and I picked up some bargains. Enough talk, Auntie. I'm going upstairs." With that, Lin Jing hurried away.

Five large boxes took two elevators to the tenth floor where Lin Jing lived.

It was almost dark, and Lin Jing had the boxes stacked in the living room by the window. The two workers who had helped with the lifting left.

Lin Jing went back to her room and saw that the heavy steel plates on the ceiling had been welded to the steel bars of the building. It was a complete weld, without a single leak. The foreman in charge that afternoon had already sent Lin Jing a video of this.

Lin Jing went back in to check, and the more he looked, the more relieved he felt. Just as he was about to leave for the hotel, Lin Zhongsheng returned.

Lin Zhongsheng flew into a rage upon seeing Lin Jing. "Where the hell were you yesterday? You really didn't care about me, did you? You went out to a hotel and left me here all alone sleeping on the couch. Lin Jing, how did you become like this?"

He glanced around the house and saw five more large boxes. Lin Zhongsheng was nearly furious. "No, what did you buy again? Lin Jing, this isn't the way you spend your money. Return all that stuff!"

"I can't return it. I have a use for these things, and I spent money on them. If you throw them away, you'll just give them away to others. I have inside information. These things will be in short supply in a few days. If you sell them back then, you'll definitely make a lot of money. I'll give you half of the profit." Lin Jing made up a story, but what he said was true. Once the apocalypse came, those things would indeed be in short supply.

"Really? Fine, then leave the things here for now. You can sleep at home. Clean up the living room and make a bed on the floor." Lin Zhongsheng continued to ramble.

"No, I have something to do later, so I'm going out first." Lin Jing ignored the scolding behind him and walked out the door. He could only vaguely hear Lin Zhongsheng's scolding behind him.

Lin Jing still felt a little pain and swelling after having his wisdom teeth removed. He went out to buy an ice pack and went straight to the hotel across the street. He only ordered a bowl of porridge for dinner. He didn't dare to drink it hot, so he had to wait until the porridge cooled down before drinking some. Finally, he filled his stomach.
