Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 –  Birthday Surprise....?

Jenny's family was always the same as other families.

At least, that's what she thought.

But because of this, Jenny's life changed — a lot.

And trust me when I say it changed, it changed upside down.

It was a normal day — her birthday, July 30.

Jenny Raven, she had black hair but almost blond hair and red eyes, she was turning eleven this year.

She was in her room, playing on her phone, when someone knocked on the door.

"Come in!" she called.

The door opened and her big brother, Lucas, walked in. He was sixteen, with blond hair and red eyes — just like Jenny.

Actually, everyone in her family had red eyes.

"Jenny, have you seen my—" He stopped mid-sentence.

"Never mind. Sorry about that."

And before Jenny could ask anything, he left the room.

Jenny frowned. Weird, she thought, but went back to scrolling on her phone.

It was almost dinner time, but no one called her down yet. The house was unusually quiet.

She was getting hungry.

Then — another knock.

"Come in," Jenny said it again.

This time it was her other brother, Marcus. He was thirteen, and every year he and Lucas went to some camp that Jenny wasn't allowed to ask about.

When she saw him, she sighed.

"What do you want?"

"Mom said dinner's ready, dummy," Marcus said, smirking.

"Okay." said Jenny and followed him downstairs.

But when she reached the dining room, her whole family was already sitting at the table — and the way they looked at her… was strange.

Like they were waiting for something to happen.

After dinner, Jenny went back to her room.

She closed the door and sat on her bed, playing with her phone again. Downstairs, she could still hear her parents and brothers talking quietly.

She didn't mean to listen — but their voices were louder than usual.

"Should we let her go?" her mother asked softly.

"No," her father said firmly. "It's too risky. They're already looking for her."

Jenny froze.

"Looking for me?" she whispered

Lucas's voice joined in. "But she doesn't even know anything yet. She's just a kid."

"That's exactly why we have to be careful," their dad said. "If they find out who she really is…"

His voice trailed off.

Jenny pressed her ear against the door, heart racing.

Who was "they"? And why would anyone be looking for her?

Before she could hear more, the floor creaked.

Jenny quickly jumped into bed and pulled her blanket up, pretending to sleep as footsteps came closer.

The door opened slightly.

Her mom peeked in, watching her for a few seconds.

Then the door closed again.

Jenny kept her eyes shut tight.

But inside, her heart wouldn't stop beating fast.

The next morning, everything seemed normal — at first.

Jenny yawned, rolled out of bed, and trudged downstairs in her pajamas. Her brothers were already eating breakfast, and her parents looked unusually quiet.

"Morning," Jenny said sleepily, grabbing some toast.

"Morning," her mom said quickly, giving her a small smile.

Jenny frowned. She thought 'What's wrong with everyone?'

Before anyone could answer, something tapped at the window.

Tap. Tap. Tap.

Jenny turned. An owl — a real owl — was sitting outside on the window ledge, holding an envelope in its beak.

Marcus nearly dropped his spoon. "Oh no…" he muttered.

Jenny blinked. "Wait… is that an owl?! Like real?!"

Lucas groaned. "It's happening already."

Her dad stood up slowly. "Open the window."

Jenny hesitated, then unlatched it. The owl swooped inside gracefully, landed right in front of her, and dropped the letter into her hands before flying back out.

She looked at everyone and looked down.

The envelope was thick and yellowish, sealed with deep red wax — a large "H" stamped in the middle.

Her heart thumped as she read the words written in black ink:

Miss Jenny - Raven

Jenny's eyes went wide. "This… is for me?"

No one said a word.

Her hands trembled a little as she broke the seal and opened it.
