Davien was taken by shock following what Sir Benjamin had just said.
"Become the head of Benj Groups?" Davien repeated the words of the old man, staring keenly at the man to validate his confusion.
Seeing that the expression of Sir Benjamin was resolute and determined, Davien was convinced that the man truly meant what he had just said.
"I appreciate your kind intentions, Sir. But I refuse the offer." Davien made sure to be respectful.
"Why?" Sir Benjamin asked with interest.
"All that matters to me right now is your wellbeing. I'm not a man that pines for status or power. The biggest gift you can give to me is you being hale and hearty." He explained in details.
Although Davien's words were honorable and thoughtful, Sir Benjamin was very convinced that his
decision and offer were not misplaced. Davien was definitely the right person.
Long time ago when he had saved Davien from the accident, he hadn't only done it because of a good heart. There was something peculiar about this young man that screams excellence. A hidden gem.
"Davien. You should not look down on yourself." Sir Benjamin urged. "You're a man with a great potential. What you possess can drive Benj Groups to the pinnacle of success. I'm very certain about it."
"I dare not to say that you're mistaken, Sir." Davien argued. "But I'm just an ordinary person. I'm not fit to bear the burden of the legacy of the great Benjamin family."
Seeing that Davien refused to change his mind, Sir Benjamin decided not to press further.
"Until you stir up and awaken the special power hidden in you, you won't see yourself beyond a mere man." Sir Benjamin advised.
"You can leave. Call Anna on your way out." He added.
Davien arose from the bed and bowed to the man. Then he turned and left.
"Grandfather asks for you." Davien addressed Anna as soon as he stepped out.
Anna hardly looked at him as she coldly walked past him.
"Why are you so stubborn?" A familiar voice came tearing at Davien.
Davien looked and saw Khloe standing in akimbo. He had almost totally forgotten that he was brought here by her.
"What are you talking about?" Davien asked, staring at her cluelessly.
"If you refuse to tell me how you bewitched my grandpa, I'm going to find out eventually. And when I do, life will be worse than hell for you!" She swore.
"You don't know what you are talking about." Davien dismissed her words.
He walked away from her towards a fancy tap where he could get some water. Khloe's eyes haunted him wherever he went to. After drinking, he decided to sit.
"What the hell do you think you are doing?" She came storming at him.
Her voice was so loud that she was garnering attention.
"What again, Khloe? Can't you let me be?" Davien was getting frustrated.
Khloe was very enraged by the fact that no matter what she did, it was difficult to break his ego.
"Still gonna play dumb?"
"Let me tell you—your good days are over. Once Grandpa's gone, you can forget about leeching off this family!"
"Get the hell back to your doghouse. Now!"
Davien knew that if he remained sitting there, she wouldn't stop nagging. It was better to leave.
"That's right, Loser! Scram!" She yelled as he walked off.
Inside the VIP ward, Sir Benjamin's face was grim as he addressed his grand daughter, Anna.
"I haven't been around for a while now and there's something I want you to take very seriously." He started.
"What's that, grandpa?" Anna's face was scribbled with concern.
"Davien." He muttered. "Do everything in your power to treat him well. Respect and kindness is a very soothing pill to the heart of every man. Do not starve him of either." He urged her seriously.
"Enough, grandpa." Anna went out of it. "Seriously, this is enough already."
When she realized that she might have spoken out of turn, she quickly bowed her head in apology.
"I'm sorry for being disrespectful, but I don't think I
can treat him with respect or kindness. In fact, I won't treat him with either." She retained her stance on the displeasure.
"First, I didn't marry him out of freewill. Secondly, he's just a piece of trash. A pushover. A nobody that is leeching off you and everyone in the family!" She shook her head stubbornly.
"I can't cope with a deadbeat like him anymore. If it wasn't because of you, I would have gotten rid of him. He's a nobody! And a nobody will forever drag you down."
Seeing how determined and displeased her granddaughter was, the old man took a deep breath. If only his granddaughter could see. He sighed in disappointment.
"Time is fleeting." The old man continued. "My days to live are shorter than the days I've lived."
Anna's mood changed when she heard this.
"In three days' time, I will officially announce my next
heir. In the meantime, gather all the Benjamin's." He said, dismissing her.
"Okay, grandpa." Anna bowed and left. This was a big news.
As soon as she left, Sir Benjamin pressed a button on the telephone by his bedside,
"Come now." He said.
Outside the ward, Anna walked briskly to her sister.
"What happened? Why did grandpa call that loser?" Khloe rushed to meet Anna in the way.
"Why are you worried about that deadbeat? He'll be gone for good. There's something else important." Anna dismissed casually.
"What's that?" Khloe's eyes were bulging.
"Grandpa wants to announce his next heir in three day's time."
"Oh my goodness." Khloe screamed. "At last." She was so excited.
"He wants us to gather the entire family for the announcement. Also, there are important businesses to handle in the company." Anna seemed quite worried to be excited.
"Leave the announcement to me. I'll handle it. You can attend to the company." Khloe offered.
Both of them parted ways after this.
Inside the VIP ward, Sir Benjamin was sitting slightly upright in bed. There was a man standing next to him.
The man's eyes were scurrying through a body of documents. Suddenly, the man stopped reading, his eyes widening.
"Sir. Are you sure that you want to give all your assets to Davien?" The lawyer asked, looking surprised.
Not one of his assets was willed to any of his family members but Davien. It was indeed something of
shock.
"Firmly." Sir Benjamin assured. "But on one condition."
The doctor listened very attentively to the old man.
"Unless Anna remain married to Davien and does not file for divorce, will the assets remain Benjamin's legally."
