Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

"The Sword of Promised Victory: regarded as the symbol of King Arthur—the strongest and most exalted holy sword, standing at the very apex of all holy blades.

It was not forged by human hands,

but crystallized within the planet by the lake's fae, using the wishes of mankind as raw material—one of the ultimate, god-wrought armaments known as the 'Last Phantasm.'"

(This is also why Arthur Pendragon is called the Saint of the Star's Sword.)

Moreover, the Sword of Promised Victory in Rowan Galehart's hand carried a special passive.

(The Sword of Promised Victory is the radiant blade that once saved the planet.

It was made to strike down those who would destroy the world—a golden edge that repels all evil.

To fully unleash its total might, the Round Table must be convened to vote; only with a majority can the sword's power be completely released!)

Of course, Rowan could choose to act unilaterally—only, the power displayed would be halved.

But even at half strength, it was enough to make the gods of Teyvat choke on their wine.

Isn't it said that even top-tier Servants—like that golden show-off—have to give ground when faced with Artoria's Noble Phantasm unleashed?

If someone actually took the hit head-on, Rowan was certain of it:

If they didn't die, they'd be maimed.

This sword, Rowan was very, very satisfied with.

And the system hadn't stopped at the blade; it had even included the scabbard.

For most weapons, a scabbard might not mean much.

But the Sword of Promised Victory's scabbard is a whole different story.

Because it's also a Noble Phantasm—an outrageously powerful lifesaver.

Distant Utopia: the scabbard of Excalibur, a Treasure originating from Avalon, the fae realm where King Arthur rests.

Passive: the bearer will recover from any wound; even the progress of aging will halt.

Active: upon releasing its True Name, the strongest ward unfolds—

granting protection from all physical interferences.

It ignores all physical interference and even interferences across parallel worlds. Known as the strongest ward in this world, it forms an absolute defense even the Five True Magics cannot reach.

In other words, as long as Rowan keeps Avalon on his person, his physical condition will remain at its current peak.

It can even heal any injury—an absurdly overpowered support artifact.

Unleashed actively, it can block every attack. It's basically cheat codes.

No wonder it's the favored daughter's Treasure in FGO.

Rowan had obtained the "Old Sword" set, but functionally the two are the same person.

Both are King Arthur—no real difference.

He directly fused the scabbard into his body. With something this precious, Rowan wasn't about to leave it lying around.

In the original story, Artoria's fate turned out that way because she lost the scabbard.

Rowan was not Artoria. Something so valuable belonged on his person, always.

As for Arthur Pendragon's other Treasures—like Invisible Air—he hadn't received them.

And he didn't really need them. Compared to the Sword of Promised Victory and Avalon, Invisible Air was hardly essential.

If anything else tempted him, it was the spear borne by the Lion King—Lancer Artoria—in FGO:

The Spear Shining at the End: Rhongomyniad!

That holy spear and the Old Sword's holy blade were nearly identical in concept.

Both required convening the Round Table to vote before their full might could be brought forth.

Rowan coveted that Treasure as well.

Unfortunately, he hadn't drawn it.

Not that he'd necessarily dare use it even if he had—it has a will of its own.

Once upon a time, the will within the spear usurped Artoria, turning her into its servant.

That's the root of the Sixth Singularity in FGO's plot.

So unless Rowan became truly overwhelming in strength, he wouldn't dare employ the spear even if he got it.

That thing could cost you your life.

"Hey—where did you even get all that?"

Venti stared, aggrieved, at the resplendent Sword of Promised Victory in Rowan's hand. He'd planned to offer a Skyward Blade, make Rowan owe him a favor.

Then, when the time was right, he could lay it on the table and ask Rowan to change Mondstadt.

As things stood, he felt helpless about Mondstadt.

Acting Grand Master Jean Gunnhildr was excellent, yes.

But one look at Mondstadt's situation told the truth—it wasn't great.

Coupled with Mondstadters' loose idea of freedom, the city looked thriving on the surface, but in reality… not so much.

Small wonder outsiders thought of Mondstadters first as drunks and professional slackers.

Venti had granted freedom to Mondstadt, true—but did they have to be this free?

So free even the wind god couldn't bear to watch.

Seeing Rowan's arrival, he'd hoped to ask him to help guide Mondstadt back on course.

But now there was no favor owed—how could he ask?

After all, Rowan had no ties and no roots here.

"Is there something you want?"

"Go on—say it. You helped me when I first arrived; as long as it isn't excessive, I'll do my best to return the favor."

Rowan turned and caught Venti's hesitant look. He guessed the archon had something to say,

so he didn't beat around the bush.

Venti was his great benefactor—he'd saved him right after he crossed over, and the power Rowan had just gained had come on the back of that encounter.

As long as Venti's request wasn't over the line, Rowan would help.

Even if Venti said nothing, should something happen later, Rowan would step up.

He genuinely liked Venti.

Or rather, each of Teyvat's Seven had their own charms and strengths.

Venti might look unreliable, but whenever something truly major threatened Mondstadt, he showed up—no matter what he'd been doing.

Or he moved behind the scenes to help.

A thousand years ago when the Old Aristocracy fell, five hundred years ago in the Khaenri'ah war, even the Dragon Calamity—he hadn't been absent.

So, to Rowan, this was a god he could respect.

"Since you've said as much, I'll be frank."

"I want you to become Mondstadt's new king—the Knight-King!"
