Chapter 46 - [46]: The Strongest Strike: When the Dust Settles

Liam Ross froze for a moment as the system notification echoed in his mind.

New Mission Triggered:

Teach Chinjao a lesson and make him live up to his title as the Drill Fist.

At first glance, it sounded simple enough defeat Chinjao. But that last line made him pause. Make him live up to his title? What did the system mean by that?

Was it suggesting that Chinjao was no longer worthy of being called the "Drill Fist"?

Then it hit him.

His eyes flickered with understanding.

So that's it... Only when he truly regains his drill-shaped head will he once again be the Drill Fist Chinjao.

In other words, the system wanted Liam to "help" him just as Luffy once had to restore what Chinjao had lost.

A slow smile crept across Liam's face beneath his mask. He knew exactly what to do.

With a sharp motion of his hand, he summoned the full might of the Earth-Earth Fruit. The ground trembled violently, and a towering wave of soil rose up behind him, over thirty meters high. Trees and boulders swirled within the roiling mass as the suspended earthen sea hovered menacingly above the battlefield.

If that wave came crashing down, only Chinjao and his son might survive. Everyone else would be buried alive.

That, of course, was something Chinjao could never allow.

"Damn it!" he growled, his body tensing like a drawn bow. "I won't stand by and watch my men die!"

In the blink of an eye, his massive frame shot forward, cutting through the air like a fired arrow. In just two breaths, he was standing before Liam, fury blazing in his eyes.

A heavy pressure radiated from him his Conqueror's Haki bursting forth like an unseen tidal wave.

The air itself seemed to scream.

Liam's pupils constricted. For the first time, he was feeling the raw, crushing weight of true Conqueror's Haki up close.

The impact was suffocating. His skin prickled, his muscles tensed, and for an instant, even the air felt thick enough to choke on. His mind wavered under the assault.

So this is the power that bends the will of others…

Chinjao had clearly refined his Haki to an advanced level his sheer spirit alone was enough to shake the battlefield.

Still, Liam's heart was steady as stone. He forced his will through the suffocating haze, holding firm. The pressure pressed down harder, but he refused to yield.

Then Chinjao moved.

With a thunderous stomp, he launched himself high into the air. The flat top of his head shimmered black as Armament Haki coated it entirely. The air around him pulsed and twisted as he gathered his strength, condensing the energy of his Eight Impact Fist into a single devastating point.

"Liam Ross!" His voice boomed across the battlefield like a cannon. "Fall before my might!"

"Eight Impact Fist Secret Art Headless Drill: Nail of the Void!"

The old pirate came crashing down from above, spinning like a meteor wreathed in lightning.

Liam's gaze hardened. He raised both hands, and the suspended wave of earth surged forward to meet the incoming strike.

The sky and the ground collided.

"Boom!"

The impact was deafening. Trees splintered, boulders exploded, and waves of soil burst outward in every direction.

But Liam wasn't finished. With a sharp exhale, he clenched his fist, channeling his will through the earth.

Dozens of dragons burst from the soil, their bodies formed from hardened rock and molten sand. They roared as they hurled themselves toward Chinjao, their eyes burning like coals.

"Rise, Earth Dragons!"

The dragons crashed into the pirate from all sides, their impact echoing like thunderclaps. Then the soil shifted again, transforming into a storm of arrows thousands upon thousands of earthen spears, each one aimed at the same target.

"Whizz! Whizz! Whizz!"

The air filled with a shrieking chorus as the barrage fell.

"Boom! Boom! Boom!"

Explosions rippled across the battlefield. The island trembled as clouds of dust and smoke swallowed the sky.

The soldiers of the Eight Treasures Navy watched in horror.

"Father!" cried Sai, his voice cracking with fear.

"Chief!" the men shouted, panic spreading through their ranks.

The sound of countless detonations merged into a single, roaring storm. The heavens seemed to burn with the force of the impact.

Liam's expression remained calm, though his right hand glowed faintly with earthy light as he kept his powers active. He knew this wouldn't be enough to kill a pirate of Chinjao's caliber.

And sure enough

From the heart of the dust cloud came a guttural roar.

"Liam Ross! You arrogant whelp I'll make you regret crossing me!"

A shadow shot forth from the smoke.

Chinjao's massive frame emerged, his body covered in dust and his clothes torn to shreds. Blood streaked down his arms, yet his eyes still burned with murderous fury.

Since his humiliating defeat at the hands of Garp, he hadn't been pushed to such an extreme.

And now this upstart had driven him to the brink again.

His rage ignited like wildfire. He descended like a meteor, friction setting the air ablaze around his head as it spun violently.

Twenty meters.

Fifteen.

Ten.

He was coming in fast too fast.

Liam planted his feet firmly, drawing his right arm back. The earth beneath his palm swirled, forming an enormous fist of solid rock. He wrapped it in Armament Haki, hardening it until it gleamed like black steel.

"Let's finish this," he muttered.

The giant earthen fist shot upward to meet Chinjao's spinning head.

"Bang!"

The collision was cataclysmic. A shockwave erupted from the impact, flattening everything within a hundred meters. Dust billowed upward in a massive ring, and the air itself seemed to split apart from the force.

Both men gritted their teeth, locked in a brutal stalemate.

"Brat!" Chinjao snarled. "Kneel before your better!"

"Old man," Liam spat back, his voice fierce, "your era is over!"

Their clashing Haki sent ripples through the ground like waves on water. The watching soldiers could barely stand, their hearts pounding wildly in their chests.

Chinjao's arms trembled. Sweat poured down his wrinkled forehead as he strained to overpower the younger man. But Liam's strength only grew fiercer.

"Face it," Liam said coldly. "You're past your prime. Let me put you down for good."

A flash of determination lit his eyes. Power flooded his body, converging into his right arm. The ground beneath him cracked as his strength surged to its peak.

"Ahhhh!" he roared, driving his fist forward with everything he had.

The earth shuddered.

The sheer force of his punch pushed Chinjao back then something changed.

The old pirate's flattened skull began to shift, the pressure from Liam's strike forcing it to rise and curve upward. Slowly, impossibly, his head began to reform into its original shape a sharp, gleaming drill.

Liam's eyes widened, then narrowed in satisfaction.

"Perfect."

With one final surge, he unleashed the last of his power.

"Boom!"

The explosion sent Chinjao flying through the air like a broken kite, his body tracing a long arc before crashing into the ranks of his own men.

Silence fell over the battlefield.

For a long moment, no one moved.

Then the dust began to settle.

Chinjao lay motionless among the debris, his once-flat head now pointed like a spear restored to its former glory.

The title of "Drill Fist" had once again found its meaning.

And as the wind carried away the last of the dust, Liam Ross stood tall amidst the shattered earth, his gaze cold and unwavering.

"The past," he said softly, "has finally been buried."
