My second year at Hogwarts was nothing short of productive. I dedicated myself to runes, enchantments, and alchemy, knowing how useful these would be for both combat and long-term strategy. As usual, my genius intellect and eidetic memory made learning effortless. Teachers adored me, and I earned house points almost as easily as breathing.
I continued practicing potions, improving my mastery beyond even Slughorn's expectations, while simultaneously training my Death Eaters. Slytherin remained fertile ground for recruitment, and my silver tongue, combined with my increasing magical prowess, allowed me to bring more talented students under my influence.
One particular focus this year was Hagrid. The half-giant was more than a gentle giant; his knowledge of fantastic beasts and his natural strength made him a potential powerhouse ally. I approached him carefully, always polite and respectful, building a foundation of trust. I planned to eventually recruit him, knowing that his assistance could help me sway other giants to my cause, as well as raise magical beasts for my army.
By the end of the year, most of Slytherin had already become loyal to me, or at the very least, neutral enough to act in my interests. My alchemy skills had grown immensely, and my knowledge of runes and enchantments became deep and practical.
After the Christmas holidays, I returned to Hogwarts, where my talents and persuasiveness caught the attention of Dumbledore. Remarkably, he decided to take me as an apprentice for a short period, teaching me some of his personal Transfiguration techniques. For a month, I absorbed every lesson, every subtle trick and strategy. But Dumbledore's attention was required elsewhere, as Grindelwald's attacks continued to rise. Even the greatest wizards are pulled away by crises, and so I was left to continue my own studies independently.
The rest of the year I spent refining my potions, dueling, and Death Eater training, and of course, recruiting additional members. By the time exams arrived, my preparation and genius ensured that I earned perfect marks in every subject, just as I had the year before. Slytherin claimed the House Cup once again, our celebrations echoing through the dungeons and halls.
When the year concluded, I boarded the Hogwarts Express once more, returning home for the holidays. As I settled into an empty compartment, I allowed myself a small, satisfied smile. Year two had not only strengthened my powers but had solidified my influence, prepared my army, and sharpened my mind for the challenges yet to come.
The future was already beginning to take shape, and I, Tom Riddle, was ready to command it.
