Chapter 2 - Chapter one

Kathleen's POV

7:00 a.m. — Europe

I was woken by that stupid alarm that wouldn't stop ringing beside me. Aunt Vivian came rushing in to check if I was alright, so I pranked her by pretending to be sick. She immediately panicked.

"Oh, Kate! Are you okay? Do you want to go to the hospital? Or should I call the doctor?" she asked in a rush, eyes full of worry.

"No ma'am, I'm fine. I don't need a doctor," I replied, trying to keep a straight face.

"Are you sure? I don't want you falling sick, especially when you're about to travel."

"I'm perfectly fine…" I said, getting out of bed

"Actually, it was a prank," I added quickly, then ran straight to the bathroom before she could react.

That's me — Kathleen Randall. Not a bully, but definitely not someone you can walk over. I always stand up for myself and, yes, I have a sharp mouth to prove it. My besties, Melissa and Lillian, are my ride-or-die girls. I love them and I'm really going to miss them when I move to California.

I showered, threw on my uniform, applied a bit of natural makeup, and tied my hair into a high ponytail. Grabbing my backpack, I hurried out so I wouldn't be late on my last day at school.

Aunt Vivian was eating at the dining table. I apologized for the prank, grabbed my keys, and left.

"Little Stone, here I come…"

Unfortunately, I arrived at school the same time as the so-called "Beauties." I prefer calling them the "Three Ducklings." Their names? Bella, Sandra, and Michelle.

Bella stepped out of her car, spotted me, and hissed dramatically. I rolled my eyes — typical. Then I saw my friends waving at me.

"Oh, it's the ducklings. Guess I should've stayed in bed — seeing those faces this early must be bad luck," I said loud enough for them to hear.

The three of them glared daggers at me as I cat-walked past to join my girls.

"Good morning, guys! How was your night?"

"Splendid. Yours?" Melissa replied.

"Great. What's up, Lillian?"

"The sky," she answered dryly.

"Aww, come on, don't be like that."

"How? You asked a question, and I answered truthfully."

We all laughed as we grabbed our books and headed to class.

A few minutes later, the Ducklings entered. They strutted over to our seats, glaring.

"Hey, you bitch, repeat what you said at the park," Michelle — the right-hand lady — said.

"I don't know what you're talking about," I said, pretending to be clueless.

"Better be," Sandra muttered before they walked off.

"What was that about?" Lillian asked.

"Just a little morning chit-chat," I shrugged.

Moments later, our English teacher walked in and class began.

Near the end of the lesson, three students walked in majestically like they owned the place — The Perfect Trio.

They ignored the teacher and took their seats.

The Trio consisted of:

Kingston, the handsome, cool, boastful leader — and my not-so-secret crush.

Daniel, the playful, carefree one. Funny and easygoing — Lillian's crush.

Matthew, the quiet, composed one. Always smiling at everyone — and definitely Melissa's crush.

"Why are you boys just arriving now?" Mr. Mark asked, irritated.

"We're sorry, sir," Daniel said.

Kingston and Matt didn't respond. They just walked to their seats behind us. When the class finally ended, Daniel leaned over.

"Hey Lady Kath, heard you're traveling. We're gonna miss you."

"Yeah, we'll miss that sharp mouth," Kingston added with a smirk.

"Oh please, just admit you'll miss my pretty face," I teased.

"Tch. Pretty face indeed," Kingston muttered.

"Don't mind him, Kath," Daniel said. "He's just shy. He even talks about you in his sleep."

Daniel dashed out of the class before Kingston could throw a book at him. Kingston groaned and chased after him, leaving everyone laughing.

"What do I do with those guys?" I sighed, smiling.

"Anyway, I'll miss you, Kath," Matthew said softly.

I smiled — he rarely spoke to anyone.

Melissa was already grinning like a love-struck puppy. I rolled my eyes, grabbed Lillian's hand, and dragged her out, leaving the two of them alone.

TO. BE. CONTINUED.
