Chapter 1 - Fate's Play

One gloomy morning in Valen city marked the beginning of a love bordered on obsession. A family sold their harvest in the marketplace, making themselves a huge fortune. That was certainly a blessing and a turning point in this family's life. The wife had already gone home to prepare her husband and son a feast to celebrate their success.

Meanwhile in the Enchanted land where all beings lived in perfect harmony...

The three princesses of Embrodia were to survey the holy path between their world and that of the humans to prevent any misfortunes. As usual, they reached the holy path before midnight. Unbeknownst to them, the crown prince—their little brother had followed them today through the opening. After a while, the princesses sensed their brother's presence.

"Konradin, what are you doing here?" The eldest—Amelia grabbed him by the ear.

"Ouch, ouch!" Konradin bit his lip.

"Mother must be so worried." Beatrix added hesitantly.

"We have to take him back." Harriet affirmed.

"The surveillance cannot be interrupted." Amelia said, voice leaving no room for argument.

"Does it mean--" Beatrix trailed off.

"Yay. You won't even know that I'm here." Konradin held his breath for their response.

The princesses exchanged questionable glances before nodding in agreement.

"You are to stay beside us at all times." Amelia affirmed.

Without waiting for an answer, she transformed into her misty form, expecting the others to follow.

Back in Valen, the father and son had stayed behind to work on a dear friend's farm. Knowing that the wife would be worried, the father decided to ride through the windy night with his son to soothe his wife's feeble heart.

"Father, what food do you think Mom prepared this evening?" The boy asked, his eyes shining with delight.

"I cannot say but we both know that whatever your mother makes is wonderful regardless." The father replied, adjusting the saddle.

"I hope we get back home to Ella soon." The father thought as he carried the son onto the saddle, settling on the horse after him.

The leaves rustled in the dark forest as the winds hummed their terrifying lullabies. The crescent moon hung high in the sky accompanied by a few stars. The horse's hooves cut through the eerie ambience.

"Who rides so late through the windy night?" The young prince demanded quietly, his form illuminating the forest with his every step.

"It's a father and his child." Amelia answered.

"He holds the boy tight in his arms." Beatrix added.

" He keeps him warm and safe." Harriet murmured.

"A human father and his son?" The prince whispered in awe.

"Yes but you are under no circumstance to interact with them." Amelia affirmed, as she turned to face Konradin whose shadow wasn't even present.

"That boy..." Amelia gritted her teeth.

"Let's split up to look for him."

The princesses flew in different directions. "A father and son... I wonder if the son is just like me." Konradin chuckled quietly as his misty form made its way to them.

The sound of frantic gallops came closer to Konradin's ear. The horse and its riders finally came into sight. The boy whose face was buried in his father's chest sensed his presence, pulling back. The boy's eyes met that of the Konradin's in the mist since he was still getting used to the transformation.

All of a sudden the winds stopped humming. Everything in the forest fell silent for just that one minute, permitting Konradin's heartbeat to be the only sound echoing through the forest. The horse instinctively increased its running pace as it also sensed the danger that lurked in the shadows

"Did something happen to brother?" Beatrix whispered hesitantly.

The others didn't respond, increasing their pace. Such silence in the forest for a whole minute followed by their brother's frantic heartbeat was just unheard of.
