Chapter 288 - Chapter 77: David Martinez_5

Among the other street punks, one of them was so startled by the situation that he let out a scream and ran off.

The remaining three punks stayed out of loyalty, but they were trembling with fear of the brutal Rebecca.

"I'm sorry! I'm sorry!! Spare me, it hurts, my hand!!"

The punk watched in horror as his hand almost fused with the disposable pistol, pleading in fear and pain that made him tremble all over.

Rebecca firmly pressed the warm shotgun against his head: "If I see you doing this on the street again, next time I'll blow your head off, got it?"

"Got it! I'm sorry! I was wrong!" At this moment, the guy had no trace of fierceness, just wanted to beg for mercy and then see a doctor.

Rebecca coldly snorted and kicked him away.

The other two punks quickly helped him up, hastily apologizing together: "We're leaving now, sorry, very sorry!"

Seeing them nodding and bowing like this, Mercer suspected they probably weren't this polite to their own mothers.

"A bunch of punks." Rebecca snorted disdainfully, then turned to look at the boy still lying on the ground, now staring blankly at her and Mercer.

"Can you get up?" she asked.

The boy wiped his bloody nose and sat up: "I can... thank you, and that big brother."

"Good, if you're fine, don't wander around outside unnecessarily. Where's your home?" Rebecca looked at the naive young boy, feeling there was an inexplicable clarity in his eyes.

"My home is at Skyscraper H4, just two streets from here," the boy said.

"Then why'd you run here? Your mom didn't teach you to stay on your street?" Rebecca said, speaking like an elder teaching him.

"Uh... I just wanted... to buy some Mewtwo." the boy said softly, wiping his nose again, smearing his face into a mess.

Rebecca clicked her tongue, pulled out some bills from her pocket, and stuffed them into the boy's hand: "Go find a cybernetic doctor to fix your nose; don't keep touching it, your nasal bone is broken, and the more you touch it, the worse it gets."

"Thank you, I'll just go home and tidy up." The boy was a bit at a loss looking at the money in his hand, instinctively pushing it back.

Rebecca raised an eyebrow and then laughed, turning to Mercer: "This kid's not bad."

In Night City, not everyone would push away money given to them, especially since this kid didn't seem rich.

"Let him get in the car; if he goes home alone now, I bet he'll be sitting there with his crooked nose till his mom gets off work, too stingy to see a doctor," Mercer said.

After Mercer spoke, the boy turned away a bit embarrassed, indeed reluctant to see a doctor, having saved up for a long time just to buy Mewtwo.

And... he didn't want his mom to worry, so he'd probably go online, figure it out, and try to fix his nose himself.

"Let me see..." Mercer opened the glove compartment and, after rummaging around, only found a pack of tissues, tossing it to the boy: "Get in the car, Rebecca will sit with me."

The boy hesitated: "I'll just..."

"No nonsense, just listen to Mercer!" Rebecca simply reached out, grabbed the back of his collar, and lifted the boy with one hand as if handling a chick.

The boy squirmed a bit and realized the hand gripping him was unlike a human's, like an immovable steel claw!

"Gorilla Arm!?" The boy exclaimed, feeling another burst of nosebleed.

Rebecca released her grip with disdain: "Plug it up, and I'm telling you now, don't spill any blood in his car; it's a pain to clean."

"Oh..." The boy looked at her arm excitedly, wanting to say something several times but ultimately sat quietly in the passenger seat.

Rebecca cheerfully slid into the driver's seat and snuggled into Mercer's lap.

"Let's go!"

As she spoke, the car door automatically closed, and then the steering wheel turned itself, heading back onto the road.

Polaris's voice came on: "Auto-navigating to the nearest cybernetic doctor. If you'd like to go to a formal clinic, I'll reconfigure the navigation."

"The nearest is fine," Mercer replied.

"Understood, estimated arrival in four minutes," Polaris's voice ceased.

The boy was even more excited: "You're using... AI driving?"

"You know quite a bit for a kid~" Rebecca giggled, comfortably leaning on Mercer.

Automatic driving sure is great.

Mercer discreetly pinched her, signaling her to stay still.

"Whoa... are you Edgerunners?" the boy asked, stemming the blood with a tissue, swallowing some as he spoke, yet unable to hide his excitement, feeling no pain at all.

"Mm-hmm!" Rebecca said proudly: "Good eye."

"Oh my god..." The boy was flustered as if seeing a celebrity: "Can you tell me your names?"

"I'm Rebecca, and he's A," Rebecca said, boasting: "He's the leader of our Spark Team. Kid, you're in luck meeting future legends in the making."

The boy racked his brain, trying to recall if he'd heard their story, introducing himself: "I'm David, David Martinez!"
