Chapter 12 - Chapter 12: Eye of Insight—There Are No Useless Pokemon, Only Useless Trainers

[First time defeating Pokemon Raticate, rewarded with 1 lottery spin]

[First time inviting a partner to join the team, rewarded with 1 lottery spin]

There were two messages on the notification bar, each with a timestamp. One appeared when Ash first commanded Pikachu to defeat Rattata, and the other when Misty agreed to join his team.

"First time... It seems like doing many things for the first time can earn lottery spins. I wonder what other firsts can earn spins. I'll have to ask around in the chat group when I have time." Ash murmured to himself, as he opened the spin wheel to start the lottery.

This time, the spin wheel was a bit different, with an option for a double spin added.

One has to admit, this lottery is pretty intelligent; even two spins can be done consecutively.

Ash unhesitatingly selected the double spin, and instantly a second pointer appeared on the wheel, with both pointers spinning wildly.

"Stop."

The speed of the pointers on the wheel slowed down, and after a few seconds, came to a complete stop.

One of the pointers landed in a very narrow area — the A-level region.

The other pointer stopped in a larger area — the C-level region.

With two spins, one A and one C, this probability would make Unlucky Ash cry!

He had drawn over a hundred times and hadn't even gotten a B-level, and Ash managed to get an S, an A, and a C in just three spins.

Even if Ash were a bit slow, he could tell that his luck with this spin wheel was somewhat invincible.

[Congratulations! You have acquired the A-level ability: Eye of Insight (A)]

[Congratulations! You have acquired the C-level ability: Speed Cap Increase (C)]

Unlike the first time with the Aura Power, this time the lottery didn't offer much description. It simply informed him of what abilities he acquired, but Ash was clueless about their use or methods.

In his mind, there was no illuminating manual like with the Aura Power, so how was he supposed to use them?

Not understanding something and asking about it is one of Ash's good virtues; he directly opened the chat group to ask the group experts.

[Newbie Ash: Hey guys, I got Eye of Insight (A) and Speed Cap (C), whose abilities are these?]

[Unlucky Ash: No way dude! How many times have you drawn? Another A-level ability?! Did you draw a hundred in one go?]

[Newbie Ash: No, just two spins.]

[Unlucky Ash: ... FML!!

Someone else gets an A-level in two spins, and I can't even get a C in ten spins. Is this probability fair? Is it fair?! Is there some kind of rigging going on?! Who created this damn chat group? I wanna kill him!!

Unlucky Ash was screaming powerlessly in his world. If he could quit the group, he probably would and go sulk somewhere.

[Breeder Ash: Your luck is godlike; is this the special 'newbie's luck'?]

[Ash the Aura Guardian: You know, when we joined the group we were already considered veterans, and it seems like the true newbie's luck is concentrated on the newly added 'me', right?]

[Champion Ash: That makes sense, but actually, aside from A-level and above abilities, other lottery abilities don't mean much to us. But truth be told, newbies are super lucky! Even that C-level ability is the most useful among the C-levels.]

[Newbie Ash: So what exactly are these things I drew?]

[Breeder Ash: That A-level ability is mine. As a top breeder, I've honed unmatched eyes, allowing me to glean all the data of any Pokemon at a glance, including seeing through its skills.]

[Breeder Ash: However, since you only got an A-level of it, it probably isn't the full ability. I'm not sure what level an A-level can achieve, but at least it should reveal the ability value potential caps of Pokemon.]

[Newbie Ash: What are ability value potential caps?]

[Breeder Ash: The strength ranking of Pokemon varies, but even at the same rank, ability values have their distinctions. I've divided the ability values into grades from S to E according to the chat group's lottery grading.]

[Breeder Ash: For example, two Pikachu at Champion Level; one has a speed ability value of A-level, and the other has S-level. The latter would naturally be much faster in standard speed, significantly so!]

[Breeder Ash: Typically, a Pokemon's level can be raised through regular training, breeding, and battle experience. Speed varies, but should you put effort and care into your Pokemon, eventually, they'll blossom for you and reach the Champion, the pinnacle level.]

[Breeder Ash: However, ability values are different. Generally, they are capped. A Pokemon might reach the Champion Level, yet within the same rank, they might only have an E-level in ability value as judged by others.]

Ash felt a bit dizzy hearing all this, but oddly enough, he understood Breeder Ash's point.

In short, all Pokemon essentially have the same potential level cap regarding strength; if Champion Level is the world's peak level, then in theory, all Pokemon can reach Champion Level.

But the ability value caps for each Pokemon at the same level differ, being limited by their potential.

Some Pokemon are born strong, with strength ability value caps at A, while ordinary Pokemon have caps at B or even C and cannot reach A-level.

According to Breeder Ash, at the same level, a difference in one ability value grade causes a relatively large disparity.

[Breeder Ash: But nothing is absolute. Nature is full of wonders, and Pokemon inherently have limitless potential. My Eye of Insight has often seen Pokemon meant for a C-level potential, yet break into the B-level with their ability values.]

[Breeder Ash: And mostly, the Pokemon breaking these upper limits have a Trainer who gives them boundless care and treats them as one of their own. This is the miracle created by Trainer and Pokemon together!]

Pokemon have potential caps, but Pokemon themselves represent endless potential. Under the miracle power of bonds, the so-called caps are nothing, and Pokemon will break them all for you!

This is what it means by there being no weak Pokemon, only weak Trainers!
