Chapter 119: Maybe It's Because I'm Handsome
"Welcome to Jumanji, Dr. Yongshi!"
As soon as Mo Fei and the four others stepped out of the primeval jungle, an off-road vehicle stopped in front of them. A scruffy old man smiled at Spencer, "Don't just stand there, get in the car!"
"Wait, there are only four seats here, but there are five of us," Mikayla said, pointing at the off-road vehicle.
"Where are there five people? Aren't there exactly four?" The scruffy old man smiled, pointing at Mikayla and the others one by one, "Dr. Yongshi, Moose Finbar, Iron Fist Ruby, Professor Shelly Oberon."
"Young man, he doesn't seem to see you."
"Believe him? No way!" Mo Fei chuckled, walked straight up to the scruffy old man, and shoved his Desert Eagle into his mouth, "Old man, I heard you. You're calling me inhuman, aren't you? Let me tell you, my mom warned me when I left home: if anyone dares to call me inhuman, I'll just finish them off!"
Given the old man's performance at the end of the movie, he didn't seem like an unintelligent NPC.
"Sir, calm down, calm down!" Cold sweat immediately poured down the scruffy old man's forehead. He said aggrievedly, "Your appearance was truly unexpected. I don't have a spare seat for you."
"Young man, how about you hold me?" Mikayla suggested.
"No need, isn't there still a seat here?" Mo Fei turned his head and smiled at the scruffy old man in the driver's seat.
Nigel: "..."
"Alright, alright, I'll get out." Nigel raised his hands in surrender. It was his first time encountering such a reckless player as Mo Fei, and he felt quite helpless.
Getting out of the driver's seat, Nigel said, "But I must first introduce you to the game's background."
"I am Nigel Billingsley, the Guardian of Jumanji."
The general game background is that a Professor named Van Pelt stole the emerald belonging to the Leopard God, who is the Guardian of Jumanji. Whoever possesses the Leopard God's emerald can rule Jumanji.
Because the Professor stole the power of a deity, he suffered a divine curse, lost his sanity, and turned evil. The happy Jumanji World also became cursed and filled with calamities.
The scruffy old man, Nigel, stole the emerald for the peace and happiness of the Jumanji World.
So, in the end, the scruffy old man, Nigel, handed the emerald to Spencer, asking him to return it to the Leopard God's eye to lift the curse on this World.
Only by lifting Jumanji's curse could Spencer and the other players return to their original World.
"Dr. Yongshi, the fate of Jumanji is in your hands." Nigel's eyes welled up with tears as he waved and shouted at the gradually departing off-road vehicle.
"Just keep going straight down this road, and we'll reach a plain where the next level will appear," Bethany said, carefully looking at the map with a missing corner while sitting in the off-road vehicle.
Her role was specifically to read maps; others would only see a blank sheet of paper if they held the map.
"OK." Mo Fei, holding the steering wheel with one hand, nodded.
"By the way, thank you for saving me earlier."
"It was nothing, you're welcome." Mo Fei smiled faintly.
He helped Bethany out of convenience, not expecting anything in return, but receiving a thank you made him feel good.
Nowadays, some people, even if you help them, might not even say thank you; they might even turn around and extort you.
Isn't that how 'faking an accident' came about?
"Why did all of us change into other people, but you, Young man, remained the same?" Bethany curiously asked the question that had been bothering her for a long time.
Dave, Spencer, and Mikayla also looked over, equally curious.
Mo Fei pondered for a moment and said, "Perhaps it's because I'm more handsome?"
Bethany: "..."
Spencer: "..."
Dave: "..."
Only Mikayla wasn't surprised at all. How could she not understand the Young man's personality?
"Young man, it's about time you told me your secret, isn't it? You're not really a killer in disguise, like in the movies, where you're a Doctor on the surface but a killer behind the scenes, are you?" Mikayla blinked her big, fluttering eyes and secretly asked Mo Fei.
"How could that be! I'm doing perfectly fine as a Doctor, and I'm not short on money, so why would I be a killer?" Mo Fei coughed and said, "I just learned some special skills from Mindy. Our family background is actually quite complex. If I didn't have a certain level of self-defense, if I ever encountered a situation where it was needed, things could easily go wrong. See, it came in handy just now, didn't it?"
Mikayla thought for a moment and said, "So, Young man, are you saying Mindy is even more formidable than you?"
"She has good talent and has worked hard since childhood, while I'm lazier. She's much more formidable than I am." Mo Fei shrugged, "So, if you ever encounter any danger in the future, you can call Mindy. As long as the person you've offended isn't God, she should be able to provide you with great help."
"What are you two whispering about?" Bethany suddenly interjected, "Young man, you were so cool when you saved me just now! Was that a game skill?"
"Yes, my skill is gunplay." Mo Fei smiled and said, "Each of you also has game skills. You can see them by pressing your left chest."
"Really?"
"It's true! I have skills too."
With just a press of her chest, a virtual electronic box would appear three feet away, just like clicking on one's attributes in an online game. Bethany played with her left chest incessantly, as if she had found a fun new toy.
However, Bethany's exaggerated mannerisms in that chubby, greasy old man's appearance were truly disgusting.
Mo Fei sighed. If Bethany were still in her loli appearance, playing like this would be pleasant to watch, but now... it made people want to hit her... Spencer, Dave, and Mikayla also played around.
Suddenly, Bethany stopped playing and sighed deeply, "I miss my phone a little. I want to go home."
"Why think about that? It's useless. You have to clear the game to leave here." Mo Fei said, "People, you have to learn to live in the moment!"
"Live in the moment?" Bethany nodded helplessly, "That's the only way."
At this moment, the protagonist of Jumanji, Dr. Yongshi, whose emotions were stirred by Bethany's sudden longing for home, was psyching himself up:
"Spencer, don't cry, don't cry, you must be strong! What is a mere Leopard God? Don't forget, your hands have once extinguished billions of lives!"
No matter how fierce the Leopard God is, how many people has it killed? Does it compare to the number of lives I've taken? I, Spencer, have slaughtered countless beings, addicted to killing, with blood flowing through the human World. Why should I fear it?
In the real World, Spencer, Dave, and Sam were all losers from the same circle, and Spencer was known for being particularly timid.
Suddenly arriving in a strange World and being required to defeat the main villain boss to leave—if Spencer hadn't inherited Dr. Yongshi's fearless courage, he would have already burst into tears. After all, he was just a 17-year-old baby. Why was this happening to him?
"We're about to reach the next level." Bethany said, pointing to a plain ahead with the map, "Van Pelt's subordinates are guarding it there, and we must pass through carefully."
