Chapter 5 - Chapter 5: A Punch Shatters the New York Sky

Hawk watched as the Manhattan sky was torn apart, revealing an infinitely dark firmament, and froze.

Above Manhattan, an eerie blue light shot skyward, continuously firing into the gap in the firmament, as if opening up a space.

The space opened above was like being violently torn open by an invisible hand, its edges constantly flickering with eerie blue light and sizzling.

Hawk subconsciously cast his gaze on his right hand.

But...

The next second.

He reacted.

No.

This firmament wasn't torn by him, but by the Space Stone.

2012.

Chitauri invasion!

Hawk's mind stirred, and he thought of the current timeline; with a swift movement, his gaze once again fell upon the torn firmament.

Indeed.

As the space gate opened above Manhattan, Chitauri soldiers, like a swarm of metallic locusts, poured out through the space gate.

They gushed forth!

The Chitauri soldiers who came to Earth from the space gate rode streamlined single-person flyers that gleamed with cold, sharp light, their engines emitting a sharp, grating hum, and their inhuman bodies were tightly encased in dark alloy armor.

Boom!

As the first Chitauri soldier pulled the trigger of their energy weapon, the glass curtain walls of Manhattan's skyscrapers were instantly pierced and shattered.

"Wala!"

"Attack!"

"Invade, invade!"

"Kill them!"

The swarming Chitauri soldiers let out excited roars, and after pouring out of the wormhole, quickly determined their respective missions.

Some Chitauri soldiers lowered their flyers and flew towards the streets of Manhattan.

Others raised their flyers, and after confirming their attack direction in the air, swept towards Brooklyn.

Of course.

Queens was also within the Chitauri soldiers' attack range.

"Holy shit!"

"What is that?"

"Aliens invading Earth?"

"They're coming our way!"

"Gasp!"

"God!"

"Run!"

"Ah!"

Just like Manhattan, which was now in chaos, the residents of Queens, upon seeing the Chitauri firing energy weapons at will, piercing skyscrapers, igniting cars, and even killing civilians as they came their way, let out sharp screams and ran in directions they believed to be safe.

The strange cries of the Chitauri soldiers.

The sound of shattering skyscrapers.

The burning sound of cars being shot and exploding.

The wails of killed civilians and the desperate shouts of those fleeing plunged the entire city of New York into immense panic at this moment.

Hawk, standing on the rooftop, subconsciously turned to go back inside the apartment.

But...

The moment he turned, he suddenly stopped, as if he had remembered something.

Then, he turned around again, looking at the sky, at the Chitauri soldiers who, like a locust plague, were now swooping towards Queens.

In the sky, a Chitauri soldier, shrieking and roaring as he swooped towards them in his craft, also saw Hawk standing on the rooftop.

After all, for invaders, what they liked to see most was the populace helplessly screaming and wailing, trying to escape their slaughter under their invasion.

Therefore, while everyone else was fleeing in a panic, Hawk alone stood still in place, motionless, making it hard not to notice him.

Their eyes met.

In Hawk's azure eyes, a star seemed to be twinkling.

"Human!"

The Chitauri soldier looked at Hawk, whose eyes met his, his snake-like eyes hidden beneath a dark alloy faceplate.

As if having received some signal, he broke away from his squad, piloting his flyer, and dived towards Hawk on the rooftop.

He immediately fired an energy blast.

Energy imbued with a destructive aura gathered at the front of the flyer, and the moment it solidified, it was aimed at Hawk and fired.

Hawk watched as the rapidly expanding energy blast entered his sight, his pupils constricting.

Boom!

The energy blast hit the rooftop ground, which instantly shattered, making a huge sound and kicking up dust.

The Chitauri soldier watched Hawk, who had moved away the moment the energy blast landed, appearing unharmed on the other side, and pulled the trigger again without any expression.

"Bang, bang, bang!"

"Boom, boom, boom!"

The apartment rooftop at this moment was like the arrival of doomsday, being frantically bombarded with energy blasts by the Chitauri soldier.

Rubble splattered.

Dust billowed everywhere.

Hawk's figure continuously weaved back and forth through the dust, dodging the Chitauri soldier's successive energy blasts.

His figure quickly shifted under the Chitauri soldier's energy blasts.

At first, Hawk was a little flustered, but now he had calmed down and was moving with ease.

He only took less than a minute.

Saints were born for war.

The Chitauri soldier kept firing.

"Bang bang click!"

As a crisp sound rang out, the soldier, who had been continuously firing energy blasts, suddenly paused, then looked down at his flyer, whose energy clip was now empty.

Just then.

The wind howled.

The Chitauri soldier looked up and saw a broken steel plate from a water tank whistling out of the dust; with a thud, it violently smashed into his flyer.

The flyer, hit by the broken steel plate, instantly lurched.

The Chitauri soldier sitting on it subconsciously tried to fly away but, due to carelessness, fell directly from the flyer.

"Thud!"

"Hiss!"

The Chitauri soldier who fell onto the rooftop quickly got up and drew the weapon from behind him, which resembled a firearm but also had a ghostly green energy source as its core.

"Hiss hiss hiss!"

The Chitauri soldier let out an inexpressible sound, seeming to say something or perhaps communicating with his kin.

Although Hawk didn't quite understand what the Chitauri soldier was doing, he wasn't too concerned about it.

After all...

It's a fight, be serious!

The apartment rooftop at this moment, after a frantic assault by the Chitauri soldier, was already shattered beyond recognition.

Although it hadn't completely collapsed yet, it was no different from having collapsed.

More than half of the rooftop ground had collapsed, some parts even, after collapsing, continued to fall unchecked to the third floor, revealing the scene inside the third-floor apartment.

However, no one noticed what was happening on the rooftop.

New Yorkers might not be good at other things, but when it came to saving their lives, no one understood it better than them.

After all, New Yorkers, who had grown up amidst various shootings and terrorist attacks, had long mastered the skill of immediately fleeing for their lives without a second glance when danger arose.

The dust on the rooftop gradually dispersed.

Soon.

Hawk's figure appeared.

The Chitauri soldier looked at Hawk, who appeared before him, his ghostly green eyes flashing with cold light, and he instantly pulled his trigger.

"Die!"

"..."
