Dawn settles upon a small village.
The houses are small and woodeand The is environment green and lively.
Children playing around, Men ploughing their fields, and their Wives preparing their meals.
"Amalia" a woman calls out, her flowing her colored like the black sky wearing a basic gown.
"Yes mom?" A young lady responds, her light and delicate skin shining in under the sun's light.
"Give these to your father for me" the mother says as she hands over a few pieces of bread to Amalia.
"Alright" Amalia responds taking the bread from her mother's hand and going out the house.
Getting outside Amalia walks through the pathway towards the field that her father is working on.
"Hey Amalia!" A man calls her out from the field
"Ah! Mr. Frank! What is it?" Amalia asks him
"Please tell Julia that i'm not buying any bread today. Money's tight you know" Frank tells her
"Sure thing, I'll tell that to mom later" Amalia responds
"See you later" she says as she waves her goodbye
Continuing to walk fown the pathway for a few more minutes. Amalia spots her father tending the field with other people
"Dad!" She calls out
"Oh william, your daughter is here"
"Ah! Amalia! What is it?" William, her father asks
"Mother told me to give these to you" she responds as she hands over the loaves of bread to her father
"Your mother always bakes the bread"
"Grow up beautiful and marry a noble for us alright Ama?" William asks her daughter
"Atleast be more reasonable dad... You know that won't happen" Amalia speaks back
"Look William your daughter has more common sense than you" one of the guys yells out and everyone laughs
"Tell your mom i'll go home late okay? There is a storm coming in few days and we are trying to harvest whatever we can."
"Okay!" Amalia responds before walking back home
Getting back home it is now noon. The clouds covering the sky and air humid.
"It is going to rain soon" Julia speaks her mind looking out the window
"Huh? Father said there is a storm coming in a few days but already?" Amalia asks her mother
"Yeah.. i heard that too. But i guess it's outdated news"
"It was just sunny out there. Did the clouds just appear out of nowhere?" Amalia speaks out
"It would seem so" her mother replies
drip.. drip.. drip..
Amalia hears as the rain starts to fall. Waiting near the front door for her father.
After 2 hours of waiting the door opens.
"Ahh.. guess the news is a bit outdated." William says to himself
"Mom already readied your clothes in the bathroom dad" Amalia says to her father.
"Thanks" her father replied.
The rain continues into dusk as their family eats their dinner.
"How's the field hun?" Julia asks her husband
"We harvested what we could.. and judging by how strong the rain us currently the crops won't be damaged much" he responds
"Well that's good to hear."
"Oh right. Amalia your birthday is in a month right?" William asks her daughter
"That's right"
"I'm going to the capital in a week. Just tell me what you want and i will buy for you as a gift" william tells her
"Maybe clothes? Uhm... I know! What about a book for magic!?" Amalia asks of her father
"Haha! Alright... A book about magic it is." her father stating her request back and laughing
Night falls and the entire village is asleep yet... Something seems wrong.
Amalia stirs awake from her bed. The air feels heavy and the rain has stopped abruptly.
Hearing footsteps her ear perk up and her mind fully wakes.
Grabbing a lantern and lighting it up she looks for the source of the footsteps looking out the window. It is pitch black like looking at a black void of nothingness.
Looking out the window she sees nothing and looks through the other windows in the house, still nothing yet she continues to hear footsteps.
Grabbing her courage Amalia opens the door and steps outside.
Looking around she spots what is making the noise.
Mooo...
A cow. One of the livestock.
"Why are you here?" She asks not expecting an answer and taking a stepping forward and stopping as she another noise
Arf! Arf! Arf!
Amalia hears a dog barking and a window opening.
"Hey amalia? Are you awake? Can you tell the neighbors to calm their dog down" her father who seemingly woke up from the noise asks her
"Right dad" amalia replies back and taking a step and stopping again.
Arf..!
The dog now barks weakly before..
Crack..
The sound of cracking is heard. The air now having a rustic smell and now listening very carefully the cracking sound is accompanied by something eating.
"What the hell?! Amalia! Get inside!" William yells out waking up Julia with amalia running inside
"What is going o-" Julia gets cut off mid sentence
"Shhh! Something is out there" william tells her
The three looks outside the window trying to figure out what is going on.
"Moooo!" The cow moos before walking away into the dark
Stepping into the darkness the cow gets slashed by.. something not human.. tearing it to pieces and eating it.
The three watching in disbelief as the cow is eaten whole right in front of them writhing and twitching in pain knocking the latern it is near earlier.
The lantern shatters igniting the grass below and revealing the thing eating the cow.
It is a black amalgam of human, insect, and animal.
Upon getting illuminated by the fire forming around it the creature screams in pain
"URAAAUGHHH"
"It's afraid of the light.. wait second.." william says as he looks up.
It is a full moon night yet nothing is illuminated by the moonlight. Then it hits him.
"They are surrounding the village.." william speaks under his breath
"Amalia! Julia! Get yourselves a lantern right no-" he gets cut off by a strong wind blowing out all the candles around the house.
Bright red eyes appear in the pitch black void of darkness and they rush inside the house cutting off william's head in a matter of seconds and feasting on his corpse.
Amalia and her mother watches in horror as they watch him get eaten in front of them. With amalia's hand shaking holding the lantern from fear and not letting go.
ARHHH!
AAAAUGH!
WHAT THE HE-
Screams echo around the village as the monsters take the lives of the people who lived in it one by one..
Then...
...
Silence...
...
...
After what seemed like forever the darkness and the monsters vanish as the light of dawn shines fully showing the entirety of the massacre that descended the village.
Bodies everywhere, crops destroyed, and livestock fully wiped out. Their bones crushed and their flesh torn apart.
Amalia and her mother walks out the house and goes to the main road. Carrying multiple bags of bread, laterns, and candles for the night whilst holding a torch.
Prepared if the monsters from the dark comes for them in their journey to the capital. Where they are much safer.
