Chapter 40 - Chapter 40: Did the Sorting Hat Drink Fake Wine?

The next day, Kael needed to join the new students of Gryffindor House for a Magic History lesson on the second floor of the castle.

There's nothing much to say about this class. As the most tedious course at Hogwarts, Kael spent the entire time dozing off.

He never imagined that a class could be this boring.

As a ghost, Professor Cuthbert Binns didn't deliver the usual harangue to give students a hard time, nor did he interact with the class.

When his milky-white body drifted through the wall into the classroom, he simply hugged a book and began to read, always with the same monotone voice.

Kael could only hold on for ten minutes before he couldn't take it anymore.

He felt as if there were countless bees buzzing around his head, making it impossible to hear what Professor Binns was saying.

Looking around,

The little lions of Gryffindor had completely given up. They lay crooked on the tables, drooling, grinding their teeth, talking in their sleep... They were in blissful slumber.

Hufflepuff was a bit better, especially those responsible for taking Magic History notes. Because of Mikel's influence, a strong sense of duty pushed their perseverance and patience to an unprecedented level.

Even when faced with a Professor Binns-branded hypno-device, they tried hard to stay awake and managed to jot down every name and date.

Although it was completely pointless.

Because Professor Binns was merely reading the textbook, word for word with no deviation.

Realizing this, the badgers couldn't hold on any longer, put away their parchments, and went to sleep!

...

If there's any lesson at Hogwarts more loathed by young wizards than the dreary Magic History, it would likely be the afternoon Potion Class.

Though Magic History is dreadfully boring, at least you can catch some sleep, and Professor Binns won't say anything as long as you don't snore too loudly.

But Potion Class is different; it's purely torturous.

And because of a certain professor's blatant favoritism, no house other than Slytherin likes Potion Class.

Among them, Gryffindor suffers the most.

Other houses only miss out on points, while Gryffindor always loses points for various reasons.

The reasons include, but are not limited to, writing notes too slowly, not reading the book during class, only looking at the book and not the professor...

It's no wonder that Gryffindor consistently holds the last place in house points, with Snape playing a vital role in this.

This is also why Fred and George are so eager to send him to the hospital wing.

They truly detest him!

In the afternoon, Hufflepuff finally had their first Potion Class, and it was with Slytherin.

After countless reminders from the prefects, the young wizards left the common room early and were waiting in the dungeon classroom ten minutes ahead of time.

Except for Kael... he was called to the hospital wing by Dumbledore.

"Kael, you're finally here!"

When Mikel saw Kael, he looked at him as though he'd seen the light and exclaimed eagerly, "You're here to discharge me, right? You must be here to take me out of here!

Oh my God, you have no idea what I've been through. This place is no place for a human.

That nurse tied me to the bed and wouldn't let me move, didn't even let me have snacks.

Then a greasy-haired man came in and made me drink some weird potion. I didn't want to drink it, but he used a wand to force it down me. Ugh, it tasted even worse than crap!"

Uh...

Kael looked at Madam Pomfrey, whose chest was rising and falling violently, then at Snape at the door, who was on the verge of exploding.

He realized he had underestimated Mikel, who not only claimed the hospital wing to be unfit for humans in front of Madam Pomfrey, but also called Snape a greasy-haired monster... Did the Sorting Hat get drunk? Shouldn't someone like this be in Gryffindor?

Without a moment of hesitation, Kael acted purely on instinct, zipped his lips, lowered his head, and quickly moved to Dumbledore's side, trying his best to lower his presence.

Being quietly obedient jpg

Who is Kael? He doesn't know him. He's just an ordinary passerby.

The atmosphere in the hospital wing instantly dropped to freezing point.

But Mikel didn't notice anything wrong and continued to babble about his recent experiences until his mouth went dry. Only when he turned to get water did he see Madam Pomfrey's smiling face.

"Yikes~~"

Mikel shrieked and immediately covered his head with a blanket, pretending to be dead.

"Ahem... This dreadful weather—why is it so cold in September?" Dumbledore rubbed his arms, breaking the eerie atmosphere.

He looked at Kael and said, "As you can see, Mr. Drake has already taken the Demon Suppression Potion, and he's ready to be discharged. I will also have Professor Plout help him learn to control his magic power.

But Kael, the professors' time is limited. Friends' help is more important for Mr. Drake."

"I understand, Professor Dumbledore," Kael said seriously. "I promise what happened in Charm Class won't happen again."

In fact, even without Dumbledore's words, Kael wouldn't sit idly by.

Mikel is, after all, his roommate; they're like brothers. How could he watch as Mikel becomes a Squib due to frequent magical power overdrafts?

After all, Hogwarts doesn't need a second groundskeeper.

"Don't be so serious, Kael," Dumbledore winked. "Our professor of potions is quite reliable. As long as Mr. Drake takes the Demon Suppression Potion on time, he won't have any further problems with magical power overdraft.

Though you might want to prepare more sweets for him. I recommend Cockroach Clusters."

Kael didn't reply, as he noticed Snape's face turning even nastier.

"Alright, take Mr. Drake back," Dumbledore said. "You should be getting to class, don't be late."

"Wait, Headmaster."

At this moment, Madam Pomfrey suddenly said, "This young wizard's treatment isn't finished; it will be a while longer."

Dumbledore hesitated, "But..."

"I said, it isn't finished yet!" Madam Pomfrey said with a smile. "Don't worry, it will be quick, just a small check-up. It won't delay their class."

"I'll leave it to you, Poppy."

Dumbledore nodded quickly and then strode out of the hospital wing.

Snape let out a cold snort at the door and followed him out.

Kael actually wanted to leave too, but he still needed to bring Mikel back, so he had to wait in the corridor for a while.

Soon after, a cry of despair burst from the hospital wing.

"I don't want to drink this... Ugh... It's even worse than that blue potion... Ugh... Help... Ugh..."

In the corridor, Kael listened to Mikel's desperate cries for help. It was heartrending.

He wanted to help, but he couldn't. Even Dumbledore had fled; what could a frail first-year young wizard like him do?

So Kael quietly closed the hospital wing's door.

With the door shut, the corridor instantly fell silent.

Now it felt much better.
