"Tell me about your understanding of the Undetectable Extension Charm," Professor Morry continued to smile.
"Yes," Vid replied solemnly, "The Undetectable Extension Charm is a type of spatial spell, and I suspect it can achieve both spatial extension and spatial folding simultaneously. This spell can be applied to any material—metal, earth, fabric, wood, provided that it's a closed and finite space. In theory, the Undetectable Extension Charm can expand space from limited to limitless, but in practice, it is affected by various factors, the most direct being the materials and the wizard's magic power and understanding of the spell—"
Professor Morry nodded slightly.
Much of what Vid said can be found in books, but being able to integrate it is not an easy task. Moreover, there are Muggle theories and his own thoughts, which could count as an excellent paper if written down.
It's evident he did a lot of homework beforehand, and this kind of serious and rigorous attitude is what Professor Morry appreciates the most.
"In summary, the use of the Undetectable Extension Charm is extremely difficult and prone to misuse. Therefore, it is strictly controlled by the Ministry of Magic—"
Vid paused here, glanced at Professor Morry, and then continued in response to his amused look: "All countries' Ministries of Magic have regulations that the Undetectable Extension Charm cannot be used for private purposes. It can only be used for the production of specific items approved by the relevant Ministry of Magic department. Additionally, individual wizards are prohibited from possessing items enchanted with the Undetectable Extension Charm without approval from the Ministry of Magic."
Professor Morry could not help but laugh: "Yes— we're discussing how to violate the Ministry of Magic's laws. But Vid, an Alchemist without an Undetectable Extension Charm suitcase cannot be considered a true Alchemist. Of course, to avoid trouble with the Ministry of Magic, we also need to learn some hidden techniques—"
He raised his hand and summoned a book from the shelf, handing it to Vid.
"This book contains a clever little trick that can teach you how to make your suitcase appear ordinary most of the time and transform when you need it—it's very challenging, child, both the Undetectable Extension Charm suitcase and this Hidden Spell are very difficult—I look forward to seeing your performance, and—yes—if you have any questions, you can ask me."
Vid flipped through the book cautiously before putting it away and taking out a piece of parchment.
"Actually, I do have many questions I need to ask you."
On the parchment, he had listed thirty or so questions, none of which could be answered in just a few sentences.
"Oh—very eager to learn, isn't he?"
Professor Morry muttered, then put on his glasses and began to answer them one by one. Vid immediately took out paper and pen to take notes as the session extended far beyond the scheduled tutoring time.
"Professor," Vid said as he was about to leave, "I actually have one more small matter."
"Hmm, what is it?"
Professor Morry was a bit tired by now, but still spoke patiently.
"Well, I've taken some time over the past few days to make a box, and I'd like you to check if there's any flaw."
Vid pulled a long, rectangular oak box from the bottom of his backpack. It looked quite ordinary, without any noticeable inscriptions.
Professor Morry cast a spell and examined it carefully.
"Hmm—can it mask the aura of magic items? No—it should be isolation—also, there's an Anti-Theft Spell, Anti-Alohomora, Curse-Breaking Spell, Anti-jinx—"
He looked at Vid in surprise: "Are you planning to collect some powerful dark magic items?"
Vid smiled a little sheepishly: "Actually, I plan to borrow some books from the restricted section, but I've heard some books carry strong dark magic and can influence anyone who gets close—"
Professor Morry laughed aloud: "Oh—Vid—Vid—my child, you are overly cautious—"
After laughing for a while and seeing Vid becoming increasingly embarrassed, he wiped tears of laughter from his eyes and said, "Don't worry, when students borrow books from the restricted section, Madam Pince ensures they're processed to prevent any negative effects on the students—"
Vid blushed slightly and said, a bit dejectedly, "So—I've prepared this box for nothing?"
"Oh, not necessarily—it's good to be cautious," Professor Morry reassured him, "Your box is made so perfectly that it can isolate almost all dark magic items, preventing any adverse effects on the outside world. At the very least, you can use it to store dangerous books at night."
Vid still looked a bit unconvinced and asked, "What about the small portion of dark magic items that can't be fully isolated?"
"That depends on the size, child," Professor Morry replied, still with a hint of amusement in his voice: "Magic power will naturally leak from items that can't be completely enclosed by your box. But if you can seal something fully inside the box from head to toe, there's nothing to worry about in terms of dark magic forces."
...
In the dead of night, a figure was pacing back and forth on the eighth floor of the castle—
"I need a place to hide things—a place to hide things—a place to hide things—"
The familiar door appeared once more, and Vid pulled it open without hesitation and lit his surroundings with his Magic Wand.
The room resembled a city, with piles of furniture casting strange shadows all around. Vid searched down the central aisle, section by section, until he found his target beside a bubbled cabinet.
An ancient, rusted diadem lay atop a pile of junk, looking no different from the other garbage here, perhaps even more decrepit, with dull gemstones like unpolished stones.
Above the diadem, the words [Tom Riddle] were etched.
If not for these words, Vid would have struggled to confirm his target amidst the junk heap, as he vaguely recalled the diadem being in a box, appearing luxurious rather than this dull, dusty appearance.
But regardless, the memories from over a decade ago are unreliable, while his eyes did not deceive him.
Vid opened the box, placed it on the ground, and picked up an old fire poker from the nearby junk heap. Stretching his arm to keep distance, he picked up the diadem and dropped it into the oak box, closed the lid, sealed it with heavy spells, and finally eased his tense nerves.
With this diadem, Vid could not freely explore the functions of the Room of Requirement, fearing he might inadvertently be influenced by it. Besides, Vid also worried subtly that others might discover this place due to his frequent visits, becoming entranced by the Soul Artifact like Ginny Weasley and causing some huge trouble. By completely isolating the Soul Artifact now, he removed any future trouble, and his mood grew a bit elated with relief.
There were just too many unknowns he wished to study in the Room of Requirement alone!
As he left, Vid pressed down on his backpack with his hand instinctively, only to hear a voice suddenly say, "It's better not to take anything out of the Room of Requirement, child."
