Chapter 41 - Battle Of The Beasts

(Lobster 2.0- WesGhost, RJ Pasin🎵)

The tenebrous panther stood before him with glistening fur. In the sun's light it had revealed a greenish hue to its fur. Its mighty paws broke the stone road as it bounded towards him with demented frenzy.

Both creatures let out guttural roars as they charged towards each other. Gwin slid under the panther's body and lashed out with his tentacles. The chitinous blades sliced through the thinner skin of the feline's belly spilling red blood on the ground.

'Die bastard!'

The panther retaliated by shredding and crushing several tentacles with its hind legs giving him deep cuts on his arms to the bone. Gwin watched this happen with great visual clarity due to his enhanced eyes.

"Gah!"

The pain was horrible yet he could still move and so he did. One of his tentacles shot towards the line of buildings and dug deep into the stone. Gwin then willed the tentacle to shorten and pull him away from the panther as he slid across the ground on his feet.

He was running out of time. Not only was his essence leaving at a frightening speed he was also bleeding profusely. The longer this fight went on the more of a disadvantage he'd be at. He had been too rash with his first attack but with that he had discovered a valuable weakness of the dark viridian panther. The despair that had threatened to swallow him up just a few seconds ago had been devoured along with all his other emotions by his overflowing killing intent. He'd kill this monster if it was the last thing he did for Elena's sake.

He only had a few more tentacles on each side with the rest having been reduced to mangled stumps. He lacked the essence to fix or replace them right now yet thankfully his tentacles weren't the only method he had to attack. His entire body was partially transformed right now which meant his strength was on a level of being a weapon in it itself.

'Hm…'

He didn't need all of these tentacles did he? Just two would be enough; he didn't need all these, not when he needed to conserve his essence. Not that it mattered since he would run out sooner rather than later. Gwin's arms began changing as his left arm formed into two bladed tentacles and his right arm simply turned into a large and jagged chitinous blade that began at his elbow. This blade was much larger and closer to the original than all the others had been.

He did this while evading the deadly claws and tail of the panther by surfing across the ground from one building to the other with his tentacle. The buildings had suffered greatly from this with many having collapsed walls. He managed a few more small cuts in the area of the stomach right in front of its hind legs, being careful to not leave himself open after each attack. He was right about its stomach being its weak point and he had made his knowledge of this weakness known with his extensive focus on attacking that area. The panther itself seemed protective of its underbelly now as it remained close to the ground in everything it did.

He was going to use this to kill it.

He used his tentacles like harpoons to pull himself away from the panther by piercing the walls of two buildings on either side of the street behind him. He used his strong legs to dash backwards quickly. His tentacles drew taught as he passed them and dug his feet into the ground. He was like a slingshot ready to fire. His feet gripped the ground tightly as he resisted the tension.

The panther began running towards him like a dark viridian phantom. It let out a rumbling yowl as it approached the spots where his tentacles were anchored. Before it could, however, Gwin suddenly pulled his knees up. He willed his tentacles to shorten which further amplified his growing speed and felt the muscles of his tentacles tear and pull as they struggled their hardest to propel him forward. The distance between them became nothing at all in hardly a second, the inertia threatened to snap his neck yet thankfully his neck was just as strong since it was enhanced by his aspect. His feet slid across the ground at frightening speed as he ducked low and readied the chitinous blade that was his right arm. His two tentacles plucked themselves from the wall and trailed behind him like two ribbons.

The panther's lustrous fur reflected the morning sun while its alabaster fangs moved to close in on him. Gwin ducked low and prepared to slide under the panther and thrust his blade deep into its stomach. The panther saw this coming however and suddenly pressed itself flat to the ground to crush him under its weight.

'Got you.'

Gwin skidded to a harsh stop right in front of it by digging his feet into the stone of the street. His ankles and feet ached with the force it had taken him to stop and his tentacles ached all over, having a myriad of torn muscles in them.

The panther reacted quickly to this change but by the time it had taken any action it was already too late. The panther's face was now level with Gwin's arm. Gwin tensed his body before delivering the greatest punch he could, making use of all of his body and aspect to deliver the most force possible. Of course he did not have any hands right now so instead of his fist flying towards his face it was a three foot long chitinous blade. It flew quickly towards one of its pale grey eyes.

'DIE BASTARD!'

Time seemed to flow in slow motion as the tip of his blade pierce its eye before moving deeper. At the same time Gwin flung his two tentacles around its neck and began squeezing as hard as he could. The blade bit even deeper before being stopped by the bones of its eye socket.

'Not enough!'

He knew instinctually this wouldn't be enough to kill it. The panther began thrashing around and Gwin felt white hot pain as its fur and protruding spikes began slicing and mutilating his tentacles and yet he kept pulling as he used them as an anchor to push his blade even deeper. He avoided the jaws of the panther as it desperately tried to tear out his insides with demented fury.

"RUAAAHH"

"ROAWWW"

Both Gwin's wail and the panther's yowl mixed together as the tough bone of its eye socket gave way and the chitinous blade plunged deep into its brain unimpeded. The savory scent of blood flooded his senses as Gwin kept up the pressure plunging his entire arm up to his elbow into its head. Suddenly a familiar voice whispered into his ear which filled him with joy.
