Chapter 1 - Coming Back

Ugh

I groaned and sucked in air desperately, every part of my body hurt down to the strains of my hair. Despite my body's screaming rejection I slowly opened my eyes and sat up. What greeted me was a damp darkness, the kind that makes you feel like you're in a cave deep underwater. Using what little strength I had I pushed myself up from the cold wooden floor and held onto the wall feeling around until my hands caught a door knob. Upon opening the door the cruel night air smashed against what I could only assume was my battered body. Almost as if it taunted my sorry state.

Turning around my eyes landed upon a tattered old shed. I laughed. I laughed so hard and fell down to my knees wrapping my arms around myself paying no attention to the tears that fell out of my eyes like rain drops from the sky.

I don't know how long I sat there crying and laughing like a person who had gone mad, I eventually hoisted myself up from the ground and leaned against a tree to give my soul, body, and mind time to adapt to my surroundings digging my nails into the strong bark of the tree hoping to transfer its years of strength into my body. I don't know if it worked but after a minute or so I was able to begin walking or maybe limping in this case, either way my body was moving following a path in my mind to a place I knew all too well.

After about an hour or so with my limited sight and limited body movement, there it was. A magnificent mansion standing tall with warm light pouring out of its windows. It looked oh so beautiful and the guards patrolling the surrounding place stood tall with the swords securely at their side. They looked quite handsome. The flowers in the garden danced under the moonlight almost as if inviting you into its paths to walk and relax among them. You could see maids busing themselves inside preparing everything for their master's nightly routine. Everything about this place welcomed you in almost promising you warmth from the biting cold. I gave no weight to those deceiving appearances. The only thing I thought of when my eyes rested upon that beautiful mansion was finally I'm back.

A chilling grin blossomed on my bruised face.

This time, this time I would do it right. I could fix my foolish mistakes.
