Chapter 16 - Weight Of A Crest

Looking at Kain's demonic crest on his hand made Elior disgusted. Elior put back on Kain gloves and carried him to his dorm room. Upon being asked why he was carrying Kain, Elior gave the excuse of him passing out due to fatigue.

To make it look realistic, Elior had changed clothes into his. As Elior left for the training grounds, his mind was in a wreck

'I am the reason for this'

'Can I fix this, is it even possible'

The thoughts of seeing the demonic crest on Kain's hand only turned Elior stomach inside out and that was how his day progressed.

The constant thought of Kain clawed at Elior's soul. The nightmares of Kain continued to haunt him, making it feel as if he were drowning with no one to save him.

Elior did poorly in class and didn't eat. Dark circles under his eyes revealed the effects of sleep deprivation, which he no longer bothered to hide.

Even people that had noticed him could feel the constant negativity around Elior.

"Are you okay, Elior?" that was the same question that was asked by Seris and Aria.

Elior's reply was always simple "I am fine" but they all knew he was not.

As Elior staggered to the library, Elior buried his head into books. He was not reading, just doing it to avoid the constant questioning from people.

"Why do you look so tired?" Seren asked

Elior looked at her with cold dead eyes before answering "I am doing okay"

Seren shocked Elior by pulling her chair besides Elior.

Elior was not expecting this not at the very least.

"Why don't you rest Elior"

Elior turned to look at her before answering "I do rest Seren"

"I mean you don't look like who have rested at all"

"You cannot blame me"

"You are carrying too much on your plate right now"

'Tell me something I don't know' Elior spoke intrusively.

Elior stared at Seren who just nodded for him to rest. As Elior rested his head on the table. He slept off. It was the first time Elior had rested, he could the pressure and responsibility lingering over him but for just a few hours, he let himself rest.

Seren got up looking at him before stepping out leaving him to his slumber.

As Elior woke up, checking his time. Elior realized that he had only being asleep for an hour. Elior scoffed

"An hour of preparation down the drain"

"I can't blame myself, though"

"You still helped despite pretending not to care Seren"

Elior walked back to his dorm. Once again at ten-thirty p.m., Elior scouted the three students. He noticed Kain going again today.

The wave of guilt still washing over Elior but Elior had decided to save everyone he could. He was still bound to carry the guilt his presence carrying had changed but decided to march forward anyway.

"I must save this world"

Elior did not need to follow them, at least not anymore; he knew the way there but his decision was to infiltrate there as Kain myself.

A risky gamble and with no one doing it with him from the shadow was just perfect for Elior.

For the next week, Elior just studied Kain. From his posture to his eating to his walking to the talking.

Elior made sure not to leave a single detail outside. He did not want to be caught onto something he had no plan of coming out of unscathed.

Elior had no way of masking himself as Kain, he had to be prepared for the chance of them being asked to remove their hoods.

The only option now was getting money. Elior knew about the black market but the item he needed to get was worth a 100 gold coins.

"Why does it have to be that expensive"

Elior only had 20 gold coins and that was from unmasking Kain as his reward from the system.

"I have to deal with the issue of money now"

An option came into Elior thought, asking Lyra but Elior dismissed the thought as it came; Lyra was going to barrage him with questions. Questions he had no chance of answering.

Another thought came into his mind.

Making a betting system but one thought: Who would be the prey to accept this?was.

As Elior thought, a wide grin came across his face

"The main characters: Especially Aiden Cross"

Elior giggled as the thoughts came into his mind that it even made people feel disgusted

"Who is that weirdo, I don't want to be like him" the voices echoed snapping Elior back into consciousness.

All Elior just needed to wait for the right time.

Firstly, Elior went to Mistress Arwen.

"When you asked for a meet, I was not expecting this"

"I can only make do with what I have"

Invfront of Elior was a simple table, a dish Elior had made himself and a contract.

"So why did you decide to meet up with me?"

"Let's eat first. I prepared this for you"

Elior had prepared miso soup. A favorite delicacy of Mistress Arwen.

Mistress Arwen was impressed but her primary interest was in that contract. She had been wanting to see its content.

Elior just sighed and slid the contract.

Mistress Arwen read through the contract before looking at Elior coldly.

"Why should I agree to this deal?"

"Beneficial for both of us, don't you think"

"Let me be clear, you wanted me to pair these students to fight against themselves while you make bet with other students to make money for yourself"

"I know you are intrigued by this, so why don't you agree to it and let us not drag the meeting on," Elior met Arwen with the same cold gaze

'Just accept it dammit'

Mistress Arwen just stared into the document before looking at Elior, a smile came across her face as she said "I agree"

Elior was expecting a yes, Mistress Arwen had a fetish for fights and that was why she was considered weird even among her peers.

 Mistress Arwen interrupted the scene

"Don't expect it for free, you understand the gravity of the situation"

"Understood,mi ma"

Elior smiled as they both ate the food in peace.
