Chapter 13 - 13: I Won't Give Up!

Nalan Yanran lost!

"Thank you for going easy on me," Lin Fan said calmly.

"Hmph!" Nalan Yanran got up and snorted coldly. "You just got lucky!"

Yun Yun looked at the defeated Nalan Yanran and thought to herself—this girl underestimated her opponent.

But at the same time, she was also surprised. This was clearly beyond her expectations.

She hadn't expected Lin Fan to have such tenacity. Despite Yanran's fierce attacks, he had remained calm.

He had even seized a flaw in Nalan's movements at the critical moment and turned the tide of the battle.

What's more, Yanran had used a wind-attribute technique, whereas Lin Fan had basically relied on brute force.

However, Yun Yun could tell that Lin Fan's brute strength far surpassed what a Three-Star Dou Zhe should possess—it was far beyond that level.

She noticed that Lin Fan's attack patterns were very basic and clumsy. But aside from that, he had completely overwhelmed Nalan Yanran.

If it hadn't been for his tenacity and sheer power, he likely would have suffered greatly at Yanran's hands today.

Yun San frowned slightly, having been observing Lin Fan the entire time.

He realized that Lin Fan wasn't just unskilled—his moves were all the most primitive forms. One could say that his victory was entirely due to his physical prowess and raw strength.

This was a weakness that had to be addressed quickly. The sect's Grand Competition was just around the corner; there was no time to delay.

Even so, he didn't say much to Lin Fan.

"Not bad," Yun San praised Lin Fan.

He then evaluated, "Lin Fan, your combat experience is seriously lacking. You need to fix that shortcoming."

"Yes!"

Then he gave feedback to Nalan Yanran: "Yanran, you're still too hot-tempered. You need to learn to control yourself. And never let your guard down against anyone."

"You underestimated Lin Fan too much. Otherwise, you wouldn't have lost like this."

"You're right, Grandmaster," Nalan Yanran replied respectfully. Although she was headstrong, she knew how to behave in formal situations.

She listened seriously when Yun San offered guidance.

"All right, since the sparring is over and the Grand Competition matters are settled, you may leave now," Yun San said.

"Yes, Master."

"Yes, Grandmaster."

Lin Fan and Nalan responded respectfully.

Once the two of them had left, Yun San turned to Yun Yun and said, "Be sure to arrange more sparring matches between Yanran and Lin Fan to make up for his lack of battle experience."

Yun San knew that the best way to accumulate combat experience was through actual fighting—but with the Grand Competition so close, there wasn't enough time.

Right now, Yanran was the best training partner.

Judging from Lin Fan's performance today, as long as his fighting technique didn't remain so clumsy, he'd be unbeatable among his peers.

Yun Yun replied, "Understood, Master."

Then she looked at Nalan Yanran's departing figure and shook her head helplessly.

Though she had agreed with her mouth, in her heart she knew that Yanran had already locked horns with the junior brother.

She wouldn't need to assign anything—Yanran would go find him on her own...

Nalan Yanran stared at Lin Fan angrily. "You just got lucky this time! Next time, you won't be so fortunate!"

"If I hadn't underestimated you, I definitely would've won!" she said, clearly unconvinced.

Lin Fan remained calm and didn't pay much attention to her words.

To him, winning or losing didn't matter. The main point was to gain experience.

From this battle, he realized he had too many shortcomings.

Without a weapon, he could only rely purely on brute strength, with no technique to speak of.

If it hadn't been for the Supreme Bone enhancing his physique, he probably wouldn't have survived even one round against Nalan.

Through this fight, he could feel how strong his body really was—Nalan Yanran's attacks didn't even hurt that much.

He figured he needed to get his hands on a movement technique.

After witnessing Nalan Yanran's unpredictable footwork, he had been utterly helpless and could only take the hits.

If he had a good movement technique, he wouldn't have been so passive in the fight.

Tomorrow, I'll go to the Scripture Pavilion and see if I can find a movement technique that suits me.

"Hey! Are you even listening to me?" Nalan Yanran shouted in frustration when she saw Lin Fan ignoring her.

Only then did Lin Fan snap out of his thoughts upon hearing her voice.

"Good luck next time—you'll win," Lin Fan replied casually, brushing her off.

"I won't give up! I'll beat you next time!" Nalan Yanran shouted, leaving in a huff.

Lin Fan shook his head and said, "This little girl really has it out for me."
