"I presume you do not have any commitments for the next day to come?" Marcus asked his son as they sat over dinner. Marcus was seated at the head, while Lorien sat three seats away on his left.
Lorien mulled over the question. Aside from seeing Malorie, he indeed had no plans for the day.
"No," he said coolly. "Is there an issue I should be worried about?"
"Nothing at all. I already told you your brothers are coming in on the weekend, which is the day after tomorrow. You will accompany me to court—you need to start socializing and getting to know some of the noblemen you'll be working with," Marcus said, the cutlery clanging against his plate as he cut and chewed his food.
"Yes, Father." Lorien had not the strength to fight or argue with him.
"And Julia is coming in for lunch. She will sleep over. Her father, Amos, has agreed," Marcus added.
This news had Lorien raising his head to stare at his father, a scowl settling on his fine features.
"I do not agree with that."
