It was dead in the night; Malorie slowly rose up from bed. She hadn't slept a wink at all, all because she was planning her escape.
A window was in the room, but it might as well not be, because it was too small and half of her body wouldn't even fit. So she went for the next best thing, which was checking when the guard who was situated outside her door left or slept. Her ear had been to the door, waiting for the right moment.
The guard's breath was even. She wasn't sure if he was asleep and decided to test the theory herself. Malorie quietly opened the door and peeked outside. The man wasn't before her door but by the side, on a wooden chair, asleep.
Like the Madam had said, the guard had brought her food and had also come to direct them to take a bath, so she could not view much of the house and knew the only exit was the entrance.
That would be hard, she thought.
